Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq

It was running so, so well when it died... Matt helped me tune it for 102 octane the night before that track day and it was handling better than ever.

Yeah I tried to break it loose with a tug behind my duramax. Put it in 5th gear and gave it a pull and the poor thing just drug all 4 tires. Stuck.

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq

Yeah I wish that were the case. Its definitely toast. Rod bearings melted to the crank, hence the donor block/crank being utilized.

I'm basically rebuilding just as Matt had it set up. It was such a champ and the motor failure wasn't the motor's fault. Lesson learned, don't ever use those push ...

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq

Not a whole lot to report just yet. I sourced a low mileage donor block from Mcstiff (thx Ed!) for the rebuild. I placed a big order in mid-november for all the engine components, which I'm still waiting on...... I should have everything I need parts-wise once that box of shiny parts shows up from ...

Re: BBQ Sale AAN short block, Wheels, CQ stuff

Yeah Vail could work just fine. Just need those main components and the actual block is a bonus. Just wrapping my head around starting the rebuild on Matt's car after the track drama in May. No oil=no bueno. Lets touch base when you get back, no hurry at all but you can plan on that short block as ...

Are you coming through Grand Junction? Might be interested in that AAN block.

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq

That was the best and worst track session ever. My buddy (shifter kart champ) was driving behind me in my E30 M3 and we were having the time of our lives. I couldn't shake him, that car is so well sorted. We had a GoPro mounted on the M3 but for some reason it didn't work and shut off. That would've ...

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq

Ya, I'll figure out an ebrake at some point. Probably go hydraulic but I don't know anything about it right now. Once I have time I'll start to do a bit of research on it. My E30 M3 has had ebrake delete since the day I bought it 4 yrs ago (it was a track car so P/O removed the ebrake so the pads ...

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq

And yes, I scored some OZ Ultraleggera's cheap. I was on the hunt for some 17" Avus wheels because I just love those things. Upon doing a bit of research I found out they're 28lbs a piece. Ouch. These OZ's are 16lbs each, winner.

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq

I'm up against a deadline with track day tomorrow, but I'll eventually pull those calipers and paint them black to match the Porsche brakes up front.

Here's a pic of the finished product in the rear. Looks good and stops even better. Hells yeah.

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq

Conveniently, the brake lines all matched up no problem.

I also redrilled the 5x120mm BMW rotors to 5x112mm Audi. After taking 20 minutes one day to try and line up the non-hubcentric bmw rotor (bigger hub bore) and the non-hubcentric OZ's I decided I needed some centering rings for the rotors ...

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq

Yeah ok, seems like a good time to do an update. Its only been like 5 months.. I suck.

So Martin was right. The caster was all effed up after I incorrectly swapped housings (rt to left) on my 5lug swap/BBK upgrade. For some reason I wanted that darn caliper on the trailing side. Whatever. The car ...

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq

Ya ok, got it. Thx for the explanation, Martin. I am not and have not been disagreeing with you in the least, I fab'd it up that way to begin with and will just have to see how bad it is when I align/drive the thing. There's a good chance I may not even notice the change in caster? I'll report back ...

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq

It could be that when I lower the car, the travel of the strut will cause that measurement to change a bit. I can't imagine it changing much though, that coilover assembly is so low and tight it doesn't hang that much.

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - Ross' 20vt 4kq

Well, I'm still not sure why mine are looking so centered. I actually have positive camber by +5mm. I just ran a level across the wheel well (at the level of the spindle) and made sure my measurement points were perfectly level and equal, and measured the distance from the center of the spindle to ...

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - end of an era

On that note. If anyone is interested in the Borbet Type A wheels, let me know. They're in great shape I just can't use them now. 4x108, 16" x 7.5", ET35 I believe.

I'm not sure what they're worth.

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - end of an era

The big brakes are still at powdercoat for the next few days. Those Borbet Type T's in the photo are 16x7.5's, exactly the same at what you had on there before with the Type A's. I swapped the tires over to the 5 lug T's and its a nice fit.

Martin, you are correct sir. Those ball joints are for ...

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - end of an era

Thanks for the info Martin, I do appreciate it. I am, however, slightly (50%) committed given I've already welded the right side together. The new, correct, TRW 19mm ball joints showed up today. I basically just swapped sides and used the left side balljoint with the left side wheel housing (on the ...

Marc: having the calipers upside down hadn't quite registered in my small brain just yet. Maybe I would've noticed when I went to bleed them, or possibly if I hadn't installed them at 2am. That's one reason why I post so many pictures, so that all you guys who are ...

Re: 4 FOX SNAKES - end of an era

Thanks for the info, Ed. Looks like that's the way to go.

So I've run into another snag, I guess I ordered the wrong ball joints. The 19mm euro B3 balljoints that I ordered, that took forever to arrive from Europe, definitely have the wrong offset. That's irritating. When I placed the order on ...
