Thanks for the idea! Drove the car for a few hours today doing some errands this morning then down to the Expo and back. I have to say- I love it! Great upgrade

Kirk,

I'm trying to figure out what radiator to use on my swap. I have the old V8 radiator and am trying to figure out how to fit it, but a V6 would fit perfectly in there. Do you think it would be too small?

Just saw this after replying to the conversation on your thread. I think the real key is getting space between the radiator and the engine. In my research before doing the swap, it seems like a lot of folks end up with the radiator right up against the engine and cooling issues. As a result, I made space for airflow and an all-aluminum radiator a primary objective. I ended up using a modified aftermarket (cheap eBay) aluminum 1.8t radiator, trimming some ribs on the headlights to get it forward more, and spacing out the front crossmember a few inches to make room. Ultimately I got 3.25" between the core and the front timing cover up top, and slightly more at the bottom (slight tilt outward at the bottom to maximize space).

I honestly have never messed with the v6 radiator so I'm not sure how big it is. Put the headlights in and see how far forward you can get it. If you can get 3" and have space for a few big pusher fans in front, then I think there is a good shot at it working ok.

yup. $250. 163k miles, from a tow yard. got it for the headliner and foglights, actually, but it runs sooooooo what to do right? was gonna keep all the drivetrain for spare parts if it didnt run. but it does.

B5 4.11 rear diff should go right in, but you lose the locking diff. Use a B5S4 driveshaft too I believe. Frame rails might need clearancing to fit stock 40v headers (like on Dan's 4kq). Convert to cable throttle body or change gas pedal to DBW.

Sweet! you have quite a collection going these days- I just saw the new Q3 on FB too.

The swap should be pretty straight forward for you. You have some spare CQ diff's laying around from the drag car- just make some custom mounts and use one of those ;)

Planning on stock engine management or standalone?

update (looking for info and this is my first stop actually).

i have (2) ABZ now, (3) x B4 90's (the FWD one is a parts car FWD lol.

info i am looking for is FW insert for pilot bushing. and crank position sensor info, but mine will be 01A.

i got a brand new fully set up by Marc VEMS and ABZ modded harness to do the first one with. $650 shipped how could i not?

also made the space to do the work, built 60x40 shop. funny thing is, the white car is the parts car. the purple one gets the first ABZ, the black gets the next. the Corrado has a C5 4.2L 40v and 01E and CQ Quattro drivetrain, and the race car has a turbo LS swap. ALL V8!!!

And ironically your “fast” car has a I4T... ;)

I used the 034 flywheel insert (https://store.034motorsport.com/flywhee ... minum.html) which worked beautifully. It has a built-in pilot bearing and uses dual-mass UrS clutch.

For crank position sensor I’m not sure how useful I’ll be. Since I used stock management I cut the sensor bung out of the a8 trans and welded it into the 01e bellhousing. If you’re planning to use standalone I don’t think that’s necessary.
