Got the auto dimming mirror wired up today, other bracket came in but I will wait for the rotors before I slap the rears together. Ordered subframe mounts for the front and bushings for part of the lower A arm in the rear. Oh, gave the car a bath for the first time in years, nothing too special. I am mulling over rims for this thing, backspacing is going to play a big part. The rims I have on it now look a lot better with a 15mm spacer on it, but I want to avoid spacers if possible. I would like to do a dark bronze rim. I have the S4 replicas on the car which are meh, I have the deep dish avant rims as well but after the interior gets done, the last thing will be rims. Time to start the research. This 5 star is the right color, and it would look decent, the rest are meh. I need inspiration. I need to put the ZR2 slider system in the car and find out what the best radar detector is these days...so much catching up to do!ImageImageImage

I like the first set of wheels best.

Why avoid spacers?

Valentine1 is still the radar detector to beat, IMO.

I have a jammer system that I could add the Valentine 1 too it, but on the fence between that and the escort 9500ci with GPS and yada yada, cooked hot spots, learning systems, internet updates. I need to put in more research lol, plus I think its best to hold off until I get the new intercooler installed so I can see how much room there is.

First one huh, I have to look back and see how the pics came in. That 5 star is 20" so I would need to locate some baby sized 17's haha

While waiting for parts to come in, I have been thinking about the transmission. I would like to put in a TDI 6 speed but not the 4.11 stock gearing, I would prefer something lower in the 3.80's This will lower my cruising RPM and essentially give me a better top speed. I ordered my rod's and will hopefully have them stuffed in by the end of February while I am waiting for the inter cooler to finish up. This post is turning into a reminder of where I want to go and what I am looking to do...

I need locate and fix wherever my leak is that is letting water down to the floor boards. Fix interior, get the power seats to work correctly, get this car detailed and find new rims and tires. I also need to ship my VEM's up to Marc for a firmware update, although it is new I actually bought it 7 years ago and like any computer it is whoa fully outdated. I also need to ship up my turbo inlet collar to be modified. So much to do...oh and I need to be good at my job and work!

I think am going with an escort Max 360 radar detector to run in tandem with the slider system, simply because the Escort Max Ci system is $3200.00 and I just cannot justify that kind of coin at this point.

I have the TDI 6-speed in my 90 quattro with 4.11 final drives. I cannot see needing anything higher for the highway. I drove it from VT to vegas and back, and the gearing was epic for 90-100mph crusiing. I think that the TDI 01e with 3.89's and a big turbo gasser might actually be too much gear for you unless you need to sustain 130mph for hours at a time.

Hi, I really appreciate the feedback. I have the goal to take it to the Bonneville salt flats and have a run. I want to get as close to 200 as possible. I don't need a time slip, just a camera on gps speed will do. Once that is done, I will go back to the 4.11's. For now I have the 5 speed in it that is the same final drive, I would like it a bit lower at 80 mph. I should look up a converter to give me an idea of tire size/final drive/and rpm to see what top speed I may achieve at 7200 rpm. I'm not looking to stuff this engine with titanium springs and unubtanium lifter, fancy cranks and what not. This is a "stuff the 7a cams in, rods, big injector, turbo, and intercooler" base build.

Other news, I saw this video on YouTube of an Audi grave yard with idk, 20 Audi 200 20vt and Audi v8s. It's right here in Georgia, 45 minutes away. I am going to go look for a bottom shield, brake vents, duct work and some trim pieces.

This weekend will be the final rear brake work, rotors and new bushings in front and rear subframes.

SO I called the number on the video not expecting anyone to pick up or all the cars to be gone. The guy picked up the phone, and after some conversation we figured out that we met 5.5 years ago out in a town called Winder, GA. I was driving a Franken turbo 2004 all road and he had a 20vt and we exchanged numbers, but just like the beginning of this post stated life had taken me far away from the scene. I just focused on raising my baby girl for most of that time while adjusting to my new job and looking for a home. Now all of that has settled, I have time to get back to pursuing my original goals made so long ago.

To confess, I had a dream last night that I was walking that yard and figuring out how to get the parts that I wanted, but also in my dream I saw a punched in the side A7 TDI and wanted to stuff the drive train into a 95 S6 Avant.... oh these dreams lol. I would LOVE to build that car, and chip that diesel to 300 hp / 500+ #trq...heck, that would be fun in just about any form, sedan, wagon, SUV....Corvair rampside flat nose pickup....

Back to the call, the guy was telling me that his brother is in an eastern European country and he was helping send in some pretty fantastic cars! I may even be able to pick up a TDI 6 speed for a reasonable price and just throw on an AAN stage 2 clutch. I really do not know the details yet, hopefully I can find time to get up there this weekend. Small world...

cool that you met that dude before.

As for the TDI trans, I got mine from Frans at dutchautoparts.com. It was like $1100 shipped fedex to my door. I've gotten a bunch of other hard to find shit from him too.

If you know the dimensions of the intercooler you want have a look at Treadstone if you haven't already. Great price:value ratio.

I ALMOST bought a treadstone as you are correct that they look like a very good option, at almost 1/3rd the price, but I ended up going with Marcs recommendations and ensuring that I keep my stock bits in place. I want this to be a true sleeper, and most likely I will even replace the new H&R springs for something closer to stock ride height. All the gauges are coming off the A pillar and I am going to relocate the consolidated one pod to the center vent. I am going to try and work on it tonight and get the rest of the rear brake calipers on with rotors before I drive it up to that Audi yard. I am going to look for that bottom engine pan, brake duct work, alternator cooling and even a tow hitch if I can find one. No one should suspect the fully functional operation of this death star... I mean wagon

Update
Received the carriers today so I now ha e all I need to finish the back brakes. Tore everything down and realized that I bought 200 10v carriers and had I known, I would have passed on them. I should have checked the part number, but when the offer to sell them to me was made, it was known I was working on a 20v. Shame on me for not double checking and just handing over my money to get a "deal".

Any ways I knocked the rust off and re used my existing carriers which turned out not too bad. I love the look and feel of new pads and rotors...

Tomorrow I am headed up to the Audi yard to try and find a few needed parts. I am going to write a list of parts I would like. Nothing else to post, just the rear brakes tonight, this weekend will be bushings and radar hopefully. ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Made it to the yard, going to post videos, it was so overwhelmingly cool! Got some knick knack stuff, brake ducts, alternator cooling hose, drivers mirror, and an oil cooler or aux radiator cooler, not sure what it is but I do know this one has no dents in it which is better than what's on the car.

I have ALWAYS loved these pie plate 18 rims but not sure if they would even fit on the wagon. These are on about 5 or 6 of the A8s in the yard.place was awesome but I ended up figuring out I have a blown head gasket! Put some nasty block fix in the radiator reservoir and will have to correct once I get my rods in the mail. We made it 87 miles up and back and flushed out the old gas....ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Right? I did not film the 9 cars lining the driveway including a 91 200 20vt Avant, passat TDI avant manual or the various S cars. It was unreal and hard to take it all in

Starting the teardown again and then there's that pesky intake Allen bolt behind the power steering pump. I'm going to do a little at a time this weekend to get the head off and oil pan off. Quick and dirty rod job....hopefully. acknowledging that there will be surprises on the way of course.ImageImage

Do you find it difficult to find parts on the Audi 200, 5000 or 90? we have very tight parts in Russia. if anything you could have bought ...

Buttoned up, now I need to find a place that sells turbo lines and connections for the EFR borgwarner. Once that goes in this coming weekend I should also have the new intercooler, and subframe mounts front and rear installed...also have the catch can oil line mod from Marc put in and the distributor cap on.

Next month it gets shipped to EFI EXPRESS for a custom transmission 6spd with TDI synchros. Going to try and stretch first and second to be a bit longer in the tooth...

Then new headliner, interior clean up and take it to the salt flats...ImageImageImage

Rods are buttoned up, timing belt back on, head done, distributor cap on, new venting mod from EFI on but hard to see the shiny bits in the picture under the hoses. Next up for the coming weekend is sourcing turbo hoses for the EFR BorgWarner turbo going in. The connections are not the same, so looking for suggestions on where to get them with longer hoses.

My VEMS is back from Marc, had a hardware and firmware upgrade done. Once I get the turbo on I will have to try and get it to the exhaust shop for a V band modification on the downpipe. Next weekend will also be the rear and front subframe mounts and transmission mounts.

Next month I am shipping the car to EFI EXPRESS for a custom transmission 6spd with TDI so I can stretch out first and second to be longer and a Stage 5 clutch kit. After that it's headliner, and taken it to the salt flats...bit by bit I am realizing an 18 year old dream of mine...ImageImageImage

My dear RENNWGN has a sister! This is a great first thread to open up for my first time back here in probably 6 months. The setups will be very similar. Should be a blast! You can thank me for pushing Marc to develop the 6 speed setup for our T44s :) (even though he wasn't the first to do it, now anyone can send one to him and have it dropped in). Pretty cool how our community is so tight like this. And I'm grateful that this particular avant has fallen into such loving arms. Nice resurrection efforts so far!
