which transmission came in the 95 a6 MT? 01e? 016? different ratios for the v6 vs the AAN?

I've broken 2 of them already, and I believe #3 is on its way out. I'm only running a 10vt at 18psi now. The first one broke with the factory NG engine, the second one broke with less than 2k miles at less than 12psi. The 01A is plenty weak.

You must just be unlucky, because they are not THAT weak. Myself and a few friends have abused them behind 20vt's at various stages of tune and really only broken a few. I had one survive 20,000 miles behind a 20vt that trapped 124mph.
I dont think yours were failing with a stock NG because of power.
An 01a will handle 250-300whp and moderate abuse if its in good condition otherwise.
