Looks like fun to me!! So Jim, did you get that 30r broke in for me? I believe that was my turbo that Hank loaned out. Guess it doesn't really matter though, because if I'd have been there I would have done the same for you. How do you think it will spool with 2.5l?

Sam
So that's what I heard in the vid. I thought he had a bad tranny (gearbox). :tard:

John, if it was your turbo, I really appreciate letting us use it. The 30r on the car now is not the one with the billet wheel. The billet wheel on a 2.5 will be brutal very fast spool
My rear diff does whine, but it does not sound like that in the car, it is strang that it sounds so pronounced on the vid.
Jarrid, I may have been on my low boost map on this vid based on the acceleration. Low boost is 300 whp which would put me on par with that rs4. In the afternoon I ran at full boost with some 100 in the tank. My camera bateries died before the afternoon sessions. My pace definitely picked up once I solo'd and could play with the car without any other cars around.

Mine was the 30r with the billet wheel, so I guess Hank was looking after my better interests after all. LOL
I too was thinking that you ought to be able to pull the Rs4 on the straights. The low boost map makes sense now.

looks like a great time.... (rethinks car usage, then kicks self back to reality).

Good review...that looks like a fun track.
If you are looking at the pure numbers alone then you *should* be pulling on the RS4...your 300whp is not far off from his power at the wheels, but he carries about 6-700+lbs penalty....that's all the turbo's fault. He mashes that pedal and the car gets up and goes, and while yours feels like it does the same, it may lag even .5 second which you may not feel but it easily translates into less(or just equal) speed at the end of the straight for two of you. It sounded at time like you should have shifted to 4th but you didn't?
Regardless, it's always fun! Good clean driving on your part!

Don't forget about the vastly superior suspension and chassis
(we need a troll emoticon).

"troll" - lol!
I meant "pulling on him from corner to corner"...
And as for superior suspension and chassis....yeah, sure, by design, OEM vs. OEM they are, and we don't know if RS4 runs stock spring/shocks either....regardless, 600 or 700lbs difference is HUGE! It's actually a good equalizer in this case, as far as cornering speeds go. But again, I was talking corner to corner. Also, Jim mentioned he was just bumped into this run group so chances are the guy in the RS4 has some more experience...not necessarily better driver, but it takes a LOT of track time for both drivers before you can compare cars only, on an overall lap time.

Thanks!
I posted this lap because it was nice clean run, and it was cool having the RS4 in front for reference.
I solo'd later in the day and was hauling ass compared to this run, and grabbing 4th in those areas. The pace of the RS4 was a lazy 3rd gear beat around the track to be honest, but worked since it was my first outing with the C group. I wish I had vids from later in the day :(
I started the weekend in A, had a talk with the organizers and agreed on "B" group for the first day since it was my first time at this track and with this chapter. Then we went to C, then solo'd in C, then got cleared for the next class for my next event. It was a bit annoying at first, but at least I proved I should be there and they moved me up.

That explains it Jim. Nice work...generally they are hesitant to move people up that fast, but you must have proved it to them!
I'd love to come out and drive some of the tracks out there. Most seem like a lot of fun, with enough elevation changes and some blind turns.
Maybe this winter I can ship my car to 034 and just fly out for few events.

No doubt it looks like great fun! Jim's car has been an inspiration since I saw his 20VT build (and had a SOLOII ride at Coors Field).

Thanks, Darin.
I just got back from disturbing the peace and beating on Hanks 30R since he keeps rubbing E85 in my face. OMG I am a retard. I spent a few hours today comparing maps on 034's site and using a spreadsheet and my secret decoder ring I could tell what I was lacking. Turns out about 5- 10 degrees of timing up top.
So I went out and loaded up some values similar to this one up top.
http://www.034motorsport.com/software/s ... 380whp.SET
It looks like a 3071 tune so I figure It will be good to go within a few degrees.
So yeah, this little 30R is hauling ass, serious ass.
:woowoo:
The 35R will go on this weekend for a little extra tuning in prep for round two.

What kindof timing by redline? i was just looking over your screen shots looking at timing figures.

My log says 18.5 degrees @ 257 KPa @ 7793 rpms

The little guy's bearings gave up today after some boost control tuning to help hold more boost to redline. 30R was a good turbo and will be missed. This turbo was one the first 30R's out there. Sorry Hank! The bearings just got louder and louder and now there is so much play that I have pulled it off the car. Good thing I have another package arriving tomorrow. :-D

I'm sure glad it wasn't my billet 30r. That's too funny. Are you going to start have a contest between trannys and turbos to see which you can blow up the most of? I have a feeling that the 30r you were using had a bit of hard use here and there before you got to it. :-D

I am kind of a meat head. I think Hank and I have a good understanding that it was time, and he died having fun.
Nothing will ever beat the turbine wheel exploding a couple of years ago.
My 35R has been a rock star, it has ZERO play in it and is super quite still. I will probably keep it as a backup especially since Myke is flooding the market right now

PTE5857BB is in, and pretty much ready for the dyno. Now I just need a free Friday afternoon. Maybe on 7/9.
I finally got the closed loop boost control dialed in with a curve that I am happy with. This holds 28 psi to redline :-) . I have the boost control set to 260 KPA in the lower RPM cells in order to control the overboost I can't seem to tune out in the higher gears. 1-3 are fine with 300 KPA in all cells, but 4th gear hits my 320 KPA fuel cut. I have a .045 restrictor in line to the lower WG chamber, then bleeding air with an old WGFV to give higher boost. The overboost comes from the restrictor and the amount of time it takes to actuate the large WG. The larger the restrictor, the less overboost, but at the sacrifice of granularity on boost control. I have been playing with adding pressure to the top chamber and it was really inconsistent at these boost levels. I am running at about 19 psi base pressure with the WG springs only.

I think my gauge is off, the 034 dyno and my local dynojet reported different numbers, both closer to 12:1. That reminds me, I should order a new sensor. I more or less tune for what works at this level. Trust me, this works! I think the car is faster than it has ever been to be honest. The dyno will tell. I am also anxious to see what the 35R turbos do with this new tuning. I received an invitation to traffic school from the nice man on a motorcycle last week, so I need to chill on tuning for a while or we may have another ghetto bird incident.

No, have to coordinate with Javad on that still.
