DIY body work is a toss up. doing sheetmetal work you should really know how it stretches and how to shrink it back to get your desired effects. the best would be to see if you find someone who would let you be there so you can work together, your ideas and their skills. at least for a first time project. sheetmetal usually isn't tamed the first time you go at it, and is usually best if tried on a bunch of spare stuff first.

Good advice, I was thinking along the same lines. Maybe I will take a day off and make sure they mock it up properly.

It always blows me away that guys won't blink an eye at an engine swap etc, and some of the most basic of work (light body work) scares em away.
Jim, you can completely manage the body work. It's much simpler than MANY of the projects i've seen you accomplish! If i can do it, anybody can!!

I agree with that except for one thing. Body work sucks. It sucks bad. I would rather swap in 3 engines with fabrication nightmares before I would like to widebody something, and make it look perfect.
The one thing about body work though, is that it is pretty hard to screw up. If it gets to be a nightmare, driving it to the body shop is always an option. The professionsals can make our skills look silly at times.

Yeah, I can't imagine doing any body work. grnated, i haven't even tried but just from the looks of it and watching others do it, it plain sucks. It must.
If you can pay for it, let the pros do it, ideally as you oversee it on regular basis.

Eh, basic body work is simple. Maybe tedious, but simple. I'm no expert at all, but i tackle it.
Peter, maybe you should pay a professional to do that V8 swap then?!?

heh, if I had the money I certainly would, although I don't mind doing this type of work myself in limited doses.

I was thinking about it last night and a B5 does not really gain you much over a B4 unless you are building a dedicated track car. B6+ maybe.

Ed, i'd say once you build a track car that's where the biggest advantage of what the B5 wnd later becomes insignificant. Daily, closer to stock, sure thing. Ya know, Ed, a B5 avant is dead sexy too, and with the I5 it would be really sweet! You should build one! ;-)
