That would add up quick, you would have to find a 4k diesel trans, or get a fwd tdi 01E....but would be very worth it....

I just saw that ABZ last night! do I need three V8 Audis? of course! lol

Thats a good deal for the 1.8t.. what's the difference between transverse and longitudinal flavors?

the TDI idea is not a bad one... I need to find a TDI and drive it to see if I can handle a car with that little power.

Tune, turbo and nozzles will net you 180hp/300ftlbs on a ve tdi 97-03. The 1.8t have Very minor differences, exhaust mani, accessory brackets...audi autos have a different crank snout, vws are all the same...

what do the TDIs do in stock form?

Any issue with oil scavenging using a transverse 1.8t motor in a longitudinal application?

Ve motors are all 90bhp stock. You have to change to a transverse oil pan and pick up tube...you should be able to find a complete swap for under $600, if you are really considering a 1.8t I'd start checking the vortex mkiv forums...

Let me know if you do decide to get rid of it down the line, I wouldn't mind having a CGT again.

I borrowed Alex's fuel pressure gauge to test the system and see if I could diagnose a bad fuel pump or something, but everything tested out OK. I'm still not convinced it's not a bad fuel pump; I got under the car tonight with it running and listened to the fuel pump and it does seem to vary it's noise a bit. I think I just need to replace it and eliminate the variable.

In other news, went to the Pick-n-pull to check out the CGT they had that Alex clued me into. Got so preoccupied with what I did find that I completely forgot to pull the fuel pump and take it with me as something to swap out and try. Here is what I did get though:

-distributor with good vacuum advance diaphragm
-fuel pressure regulator
-another set of CIS injectors to try
-a shiny new exhaust; it's a TIG welded, stainless steel unit that is nicely constructed. Need to be finessed a bit for fitment but man is it an upgrade.
-plastic radiator shroud

Does anybody recognize the exhaust? I'm thinking it is probably one of the commercially available aftermarket options.

thanks- might be my best $30 junkyard find.

Bumpers are all there and in good shape. Even the grille for the lower valance is in tact and in good shape.

OK- looking more seriously into swap options, but having some trouble finding some information. Basically I'm trying to see if a 1.8T will actually bolt up to this thing, and if so, will the stock clutch from a manual AEB car work. If anyone knows, please clue me in. I'm finding info on FWD Audi transmissions somewhat hard to come by.

1. I know that the 4kq has an 016 trans, but I can't find any reference to the FWD Coupe GT trans. Does anybody know what it is?
2. Will a 4 cylinder bolt up to it, or is there an issue like with the 016?
3. Input shaft splines: are they the same on the CGT as an 012?

Well crap. I found my answer. It's an 016 in this as well so it would need an 01a or maybe the 012 if I find a donor car. That means figuring out manual speedo conversion.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. Figured finding a FWD A4 01A wouldn't be too hard (especially if you just found a full 1.8T FWD donor) and easier than making an adapter plate. Not sure about mounts or axles, but I believe the axle cups should be the same. You might have to source some different length axles, maybe not. I believe people have machined the 01A/01E to work with a mechanical speedo cable.

Don't recognize the exhaust for sure but could it be a Stebro? Looks similar to the mufflers they used on the b3 & b4 coupe/90 exhausts. Either way good find

I guess it could be an 016 but I remember the shift linkage being completely different. Are you sure it isn't an 093?

Looks like you're right: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.p ... r-bushings
But it still doesn't have the 4-cylinder pattern on the bellhousing like the 016.

Some good info:

The 016 came in two varieties Quattro and non..

all standard 5000's normally aspirated and turbo came with an 016 gearbox this
changed in 89 with the advent of the 100.

All quattros up to the 88 audi 90/80 used a version of an 016 gearbox.
Porsche used the 016 in the 944's and late 924s.

The 093 coupe box is different from an 016 in that just about everything is
smaller dimensionally. the ratios are better suited for economy type driving
and in my opinion cannot handle very much horsepower.

An 016 box WILL NOT fit in a 2wd coupe easily. you might be able to muscle it
in with a hammer and by using a subframe from a 4kq. the hammer is for the
floor pan. The shift linkage is entierly different as is the shift handle
mounts etc. The front axels are the same from a coupe to a 4kq. Other items
to think about is that some of the coupe boxes the clutch is cable operated
whereas all 016 have a hydro clutch.
The flywheels differ I believe not sure what the difference is but they aren't
the same part number.
