Still a gutted cat. Yea, the tip option is the next option if this doesn't work.

There's something about saying I legitimately passed smug that's cool.

Seriously, I've taken the car from wow factor to blah factor. Still moves the same though :-D

I'll be interested to know if it passes at 15.5. Den's A4 is at about 15 at idle and people still say "smells like its a little rich" LOL

Hey Jim, what size fuel lines were you running on E85?

-6 feed with a stock return line.

So more drama at the smog shop, I got the CO to pass, but the HC was like 4x the legal amount. Feck, now I'm a GP or Gross Polluter. Sweet!

The car is misfiring and dumping fuel. It's not horrible in that the car runs rough, but you can hear it with fairly open exhaust. The 75 # injectors, 60 psi base fuel pressure, no cat and and the fact I've been getting a little wiff of oil every now make for a bad combo.

I just tried reducing my base fuel pressure to 40 psi and it has helped, enabling me to get up into the 1.3 ms range at idle. I think I'm going to make a run to San Diego and fill up on E85 to seal the deal. I can run at like 1.1 lambda with no miss fires. If that doesn't work, I'll pop in some tiny injectors.

I was just about to ask about E85. Would you be allowed to e-test on any fuel?

Just tell them, "you can't tell tuning from smelling the tail pipe, we tune by looking at the plugs!" :P

I think it's called, 'playing stupid'.

What kind of bad connotation does the GP designation give?

Hafta go to a "special" smog only station with more stringent standards, its a real pain in the ass, like "microscope status" :x

Try the E-85 Jim. Test only stations are a pain. They are state run so the "tip" is out and now they're gonne give your car a sigmoidoscopy. :P

So what's the word Jim? Did the E85 and leaning the crap out of it work? Inquiring minds want to know. :-)

Anyone think this is NHRA legal?

Apparently I've decided to relocate the battery under the seat.

Well, somehow CA plates have made it onto the car :-D

I had the day off and since I had to spend the day sitting down, (F'd up my foot yesterday) I figured I might as well sit down in the car and get it tuned for this thick air.

It's strange, on the same tune from Denver the car has felt generally slower on boost, eventhough it's easily boosting to 30 psi. I attributed it to the extra back pressure on the turbo after limited logging. I saw 12.3:1 AFR and assumed everthing must be fine, untill I looked at my EGTs. They were tapping on 1600 F right after the turbo. Too much boost, probably not enough timing = too hot for me.

After todays session, I've backed the boost down to 26 psi max on pump gas, 11.5:1 AFR, and added about 5 degrees of advance. Man, what a difference, the car is running like a top! The lowest timing dips to is 15 degrees, and I only saw 1495 after running through 3rd and midway through 4th gear. Sweet. I may have room for even more timing, but I think I'll leave that for the dyno, whenever that may be.

The battery box is pretty much done, I just need to strap it down and then I can re-install the rear seat.
