Re: Early 90s AMP Pins?

No luck finding pin part numbers. Retrieved some wire ends and a connector (albeit not the right color) from an early A4 at the pick-n-pull and assembled this intermediate connector.

Inserted two additional female pins on the harness side for the black (87F) and red (30) lugs. With this the AAN ...

Early 90s AMP Pins?

Anyone know part numbers or product line for these early 1990s type of AMP crimp barrel pins?

Trying to make a small 4k to AAN intermediate harness.

Re: Justin's B7 RS4 - needs a new heart! Break in Oil Recs?

Take good care of the A/C compressor since new ones are not cheap! The crowd over on Audizine think they fail on a fairly consistent mileage basis. Some new PAG oil will go a long way, though.

Re: 3B 20vt 4000q

The motor had low idle oil pressure when warm, so it's been removed once again and has been disassembled for plastigauging and bearing replacement.

Came across this interesting figure in the 5000/200 Bentley manual while looking up the bearing tolerances. Cobbled up a pressure tester for the oil ...

Lowest coolant point on i5?

Draining coolant is a messy and a pain-in-the-butt job with an i5 block. Anyone have experience tapping their own spout into the block for easier coolant removal?

I'm looking for the lowest point so the coolant can be drained completely from the block/thermostat/heatercore side of the circuit.

Re: Kevin's V8 Quattro 5-speed (In process)

It's been my experience that the head gaskets on a hot V8 will fail first; pulled a U-Haul trailer across the country with my ABH and measured three 0 psi cylinders when the trip was complete. Pulled the heads, purchased new gaskets, and it's back to normal. You'll find that the kit 077198012B is ...

Re: 3B 20vt 4000q

Overdue update...newfound urgency to get the car road-tested before salt. Putting the electric pump aside for now. There's probably 5 months of garage confinement during the winter where I can pick that back up. I focused on reassembling the front end with plans to drive the car daily for a few ...

Re: 86 Alpine white 4000's

Those 5/16" AN adapters work well. The one caveat is you'll either need to drill the adapter a bit wider or file down the diameter of the fuel line for the brass ring to slide on.

Re: Samuel's 20vt 4000 - Running On 3B

Added a few more sensors and plugged all the vacuum leaks. Idles well now! Went through a few heat cycles to ensure the original 4k radiator fan control was operating correctly, and also verified the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. Using a V8 oil cooler and discovered they only flow in one ...

Re: Samuel's 20vt 4000

The engine is missing a hilarious number of sensors and has every orifice open to atmosphere, but there's life in the 3B'd 20v. Wanted to ensure the ECU could power up and communicate before wiring it properly

Re: Samuel's 20vt 4000

Still a slow summer for working on cars. Pressure regulator installed and plumbed. Had to assemble a fuel rail bracket; the purchased 034 brackets were way too tall for the application. Painted a bit too.

Re: 20vt in small chassis folks - Pass side Heat Shield Help

Not particularly flattering images since it's installed, but it looks like I drilled the hole offset. Bracket shields the mount on engine side, and then the whole mount is covered by that cup on the chassis side.

Re: 20vt in small chassis folks - Pass side Heat Shield Help

I found that the 5k clamshell mount shields work really well. There's one that's cup shaped, and if you drill a hole in the center it covers the mount nicely. I'll get a picture of mine tonight if I can remember...

If it feels lethargic check your codes first though...

Re: Samuel's 20vt 4000

I asked one of the shop guys I work with to look at the exhaust manifold and he welded it in about 20 seconds. Manifold was already torqued to the head, so that was quick and convenient. The intake manifold needed material removed to fit with the phenolic spacer - die grinder and a flap wheel for ...

Minor update. I've never seen this mentioned anywhere, but here's some pictures of OEM and Victor Reinz intake gaskets. These show the orientation/direction/side of the exhaust gaskets that make everything fit without interference or overlap.

Do long injectors with long nozzles exist, as in 60mm injector with extension? I've got the 034 rail and brackets that take a long injector...so a long injector with the extension would be nice.

There will be a gap. The bracket is not meant to locate the injectors, but rather to prevent them from pulling out.

Found some time today to make the 4000 front clip removable. Always wanted to do this! Taking off the fenders for the first ...

The injectors need to be pushed in further, yes. Lubricate the o-rings and gently tap them down. I can get a picture if you'd like.

Awesome, you're quick! Still working on a bracket for the Volvo one I'm trying to do.

Do you know approximate dimensions for the MR2 pump? Most of the ideas I have require cutting some inches off the reservoir since the one I've got is 13" tall. That bracket you purchased is a nice solution.

Re: Ben's V8 CQ - MR2 pump en route

The belt in the B6 S4 is kinda similar, and the tension pulley doesn't have a spring of any sort. That application you just make it taught with your hand strength and then tighten the adjustment bolt.

Great album, thanks. Saw a bunch of results in Google images of people using the gasket and wanted to make sure. What Snap-On tool are you referring to? For this I bolted the flywheel to press the ring on.

Gasket was good for drilling/tapping hole though:

The answer is no. The trigger rear main seal has an additional 1mm of thickness.
