Fall is here and winter is coming... imagine what it's like to drive this thing in the snow with 300 HP and two locked diffs! :-)

Update July 27: replacing the head gasket did not fix the problem! :wah:

I put some Bars Leaks "head gasket repair" magic juice in the coolant and it seems to have helped significantly, but clearly there's still something wrong. My best guess is a crack in the head.

So I'm reducing the price to ...

I'd posted I'd sell it for a reduced price, but as most people won't pay good money for a car that can't be driven, I'm going to fix it. Afterward I'm going to lower my asking price a bit, I'm thinking $5,000. I'm realizing that while ...

Yeah and the extra-sad thing is that between this and my B8 A4, the 80 is (well, was) the more reliable car! Right now I have no transporation at all as the A4 broke a spring a few days ago and the nice folks at the dealership sent me a replacement that's wrong and haven't returned my calls & emails ...

Update June 23: "Baby" needs a head gasket! It still starts and runs beautifully, but there's white smoke in the exhaust and unexplained loss of coolant. I'll be fixing it and have also reduced my asking price - see below.

June bump and... I might be interested in trading this for a B5 S4 if it's the right car! Requirements: not too much of a basket case, clean title, manual transmission, and very strongly prefer one that has stock or equivalent shocks & springs (or have those parts available).

For what it's worth I have an 01E transmission and the original 4.11:1 rear diff that can go with it if you want to swap in a different engine or want a torsen center diff. I'm 95% sure the 01E is "CBD" code 5 ...

Spring bump...

Buy this now and you get all-new brakes! I just replaced all rotors and pads and both rear calipers (with new, but one's Chinese).

Also, if you're of a mind to 07K-ify this car, I can include some parts to get you started. An 07K engine with only ~40K miles that's about 85% complete ...

Something else I just discovered... the accessory bracket is in a bin and I haven't laid eyes on it in years. But I found this photo from when I bought the engine and it looks like the top has been cut off:

I just actually looked at the engine and my notes and here are a few updates:
* The *lower* timing chain is present, as is the gear that connects the lower to the upper chain (and drives the vacuum pump). So all that's needed is the upper chain and everything that goes with it: guides, tensioner ...

The engine is gone, as are the flywheel, exhaust flange, and fuel rail.

I think I'm going to keep the coils as spares. The alternator is still available for $100 and I'm willing to ship it at buyer's expense.

Oh and the car it was going to be put into is also still for sale ...

It sure helped me considerably. I would bump steer and be all over the road. I had the alignment redone with it toe'd in to the inner limit, and it tracks much better, and I don't feel like I'm trying to jump lanes on the highway every time I hit a small bump.

Yeah, I'm just starting to get an itch for something new and different.

The "new and different" was supposed to be the 07K engine, but I'm coming to the realization I'll probably never be able to swing the cost of the conversion parts, and don't really have the ability to make them myself ...

Update October 2019: the engine ...

Also the 07K intake ports are substantially wider... I can't remember if they're also taller. On the exhaust side, the "old school" 20V engines had the ports unevenly spaced, whereas on the 07K the spacings are even. So an old exhaust manifold won't work.
