I just got a set of main and rod bearings today, made by Clevite/MAHLE for my Audi 3B engine, and after looking at them all closely, I see one half of one crank bearing and one half of one rod bearing have noticeable gouges in them. Is this something that is to be expected? Are these bearings bad ...

The re-grind was necessary because the engine had been sitting for maybe a year, and had taken on some water, so one crank journal had a bad surface on it. The others, and connecting rod journals were unscathed.
I probably should have gone for a different crank, but I already asked him to just go ...

I've got an Audi 3B engine I'm rebuilding and my machinist says I've got to grind the crank and get 0.010 inch (or 0.25mm) undersized bearings for the rods and mains.
Do most 2.2L 5 cylinder older Audi engines share crank and rod bearings?
I haven't yet found any bearings listed specifically as 3B 0 ...
