lining up the holes for the spoiler to mount into place, before installing i have to reinforce the holes on the spoiler with some more layers of fiberglass
Image
tracing and marking the holes
Image
weather was nice enough to wash the vehicles, dad washing his jeep, i did my coupe, 39deg out and it felt like 50 in the sun
Image
pictures of the headlights to show how nice the lens's are and the chrome behind them
Image
lil moisture got in the drivers side, have to reseal it a bit better
Image
shiny turd!
Image

washed the coupe just so that it would look nice when the spoiler was finished mounted.

3-3-13
184,500 miles

I installed the reiger spoiler finally last night, i still love it. Looks fantastic with my RS2 rear end.
Image

I decided to go ice racing in Hammond NY with the chump car thing. 10$ and racing on a frozen lake? what could possibly go wrong with that?!

First time driving on a frozen lake.
Image
Andy came along with me, he's a cool guy, he has brians old turbo'd coupe. Sounds evil.
Image

The track was 3/4 of a mile long, and we were told it was more rough then usual do to the ice/slush combo. they plowed a good 2-3' of snow off the sides, so it was a solid Ice barrier around the track on either side... this was kinda intimidating...
Image
i slipped and fell on my ass right around here. fell on an ice chunk, felt fantastic
Image
one of the menard class racers (crazy studded tires)
Image

anyways, we were told to take some practice laps, passing was allowed, so basically racing began... slowly. I kept up just fine with the car in front of me for the first 3/4 of a lap. Then i failed to negotiate a 90degree right and plowed into the bank, breaking my bumper, to what extent idk because after the cars passed i threw it into reverse and was able to get out (quattro definitely helped, if it was a fwd/rwd they would of been stuck i'm sure). i noticed that i left some pieces of my lower valence in that snowbank and thought, well it probably just split at the center where it was mended before and lost the center grill.

i completed that lap and went on to the second lap following behind CJ in his bmw, once again keeping up just fine, not really pressing too hard. The course was UNBELIEVABLY rough on my poor coilovers. 350lb spring rates is not good for this. there were some nasty divots in the ice where it seemed levels of ice were just sheered off.

i started my 3rd lap and decided to try to swing the back end around a 160degree corner... it didn't rotate, i had no traction, i felt like the titanic heading for an iceburg. CRUNCH. right into a giant pile of frozen ice, a good 3' of it at least. the car was high centered so i tried rocking it off at first but it was useless. while i sat there waiting for the truck to go by, other cars drove by... i felt the shame as that was my second time off the course. getting slush splashed onto the back of the car that was still on the course a good 3' or so.

As i sat there in my car... i looked out ahead 10'=15' and saw a piece of glass, looked to be from my fog light... but wasn't sure. i prayed it wasn't my headlights. i also saw other pieces of black plastic hanging around. I must of hit it harder then i thought.

Finally got out of the car when the truck showed up, laughed and said "i think i mighta broke something". I then walked out to the front of the car and noticed my lower bumper was in about 5 pieces. the upper part only had the font most still intact, the drivers side fog light and turn signal were shattered. Heart sank a little at that point seeing how bad it was. It wasn't just cracked, it shattered into pieces.

I assessed under the car, a large chunk of ice was under my driver side control arm. there was ice chunks everywhere. i looked to see if there was any damage to the radiator or oil pan, but those were still just fine. thank god. if i had lowered the car instead of raised it i'm sure that wouldn't of been the case.

anyways, truck pulled me off the bank after some digging of the ice. i completed the 3rd lap, and pulled into the pit that everyone else had pulled into. I felt the shame once again as everyone stared at my beaten car :(

parked the car and took some pictures
Image
Image
Image

To kick it off, my alternator decided to stop charging the battery. It was pretty wet so we concluded that was the problem and let is sit. Andy agreed with me that it was too rough and he parked his car for the rest of the day next to mine. The ONLY awd cars there were sitting on the sidelines. granted we had the nicest cars there, but way to represent!

we left early and limped my car home, swapped the batteries over when the one in my car got low. eventually it started charging again, must of dried out. I was in better spirits then so i took some photos of andrews car and a video

i only did one more lap after i crashed. it was too bumpy so i called it quits early. made rallyx on the dirt feel like i was driving on butter.

i had fun though, it was interesting having so little traction in the car, next time i'm only going to race if there isn't embankments that i can run into.

I don't blame you there. That was a somewhat expensive misshap on the track.

IIRC, they got switched back because he didn't like the light output of them.

yeah that's correct. only putting the votex's on for special occasions. they're not that great with the light output.

Looks like you had some serious fun! let me know about the bumper struts, so next timeout don't have to run such an expensive bumper in the dirt.

Once your shocks come ill mount up that 1 piece bumper and get to working on mounting the brush guard. I need to find some nice hellas to mount to the front end. Its too bad I'm adding more weight to the already heavy front of the car. Maybe I can move some stuff to the back. Like the battery, electric power steering pump, radiator in the spoiler? J/k on that last one.

Getting the car aligned again tomorrow. Too damn cold for me to clean the dirt for the guys. Oops. I hope I didn't bend a tie rod. I have to stop robbing from my project coupe.

First video my friend sent me, it was my worst run of the day, ran into the deep stuff twice, didn't carry enough speed through half the corners, and then lost traction and couldn't turn left, was afraid i'd go into the woods after the canopy tent that blew over.

Alignments back in check, all the tires are holding air for now.
back to the project of the exhaust.

May have a fuel leak somewhere as i don't have pressure after the car sits for a bit. Fuel pump sounds good but the lines are crappy looking, and the filter is from 10 years ago... probably not helpin.

anyways, here's the pictures from Jim, thank you sir, they came our fantastic.

Back to being on forums (was just lurking for the past 2 years).
Good news, projectpad is no longer blocked at work! (photobucket is though still :( )

picked up a 200 3b i was going to save... but then realized with the amount of money i have to sink into it... mind as well swap the motor into the CQ and make a cheap S2 outta it... then sell the 200 with just the motor swap stuff missing and not hacked up... someone else can save it if they wish or part it. I don't have time to part it and i would feel bad as it's all there, just needs brakes, suspension, and master cylinder.

So far i have been in talks with some of the S2forum guys in getting a hold of everything i need for the swap:
S2 airbox
S2 intercooler, crossover, piping
S2 3b/aby harness
S2 batterybox
S2 downpipe for single outlet modification (or one of hanks/efi's downpipes)
01E 6spd transmission
outdrives to make the axles work

What i have:
clean running 91 CQ with S2 body pieces
running 3b in a 91 200 (needs maintenance)
DIY coilovers with 12" springs and kyb strut inserts
5x112 hub swap (need to install)
4000 driveshaft
RS2 replica 01E mounts

possible quandaries...
can i fit a b3 90 1 piece front bumper over the front end with the intercooler (she's telling me no no, but i think i can find a way for the body to say yes yes)
can i swap out my nice rs2 style rear bumper for a 1 piece 90 rear so it's not damaged (never seen this done)
can i somehow mount this giant brush bar i have from a ford ranger onto the front of the car
can i get a hold of some allroad fender flares and adapt them to the sides of the coupe...

repainted the front uprights, tie rods and endlinks, also ordered the 12mm offset solid mounts for the rear of the car as well instead of the center mounted ones... because lift.

i still haven't dismantled the 200, if someone wants to donate their old brake setup that is still working then i'll pop it on there and save it... and a master cylinder.

Finished doing the rear rallyx coilovers

Image
Image
Image
All put together with the 12mm offset
Image
Full Droop is a touch over 30"
Image
Compressed we're at 28" (new springs).
Image

No rubbing so far except for tight turns in the front, I kinda took it over a jump to test it out... i may have gone a bit too fast as I wound up traveling 26' without the tires touching the ground. No damage to the car other than a crack in the plastic end tank of the radiator (no bumper on, my fault but i didn't expect to launch the car that far over a knoll in my driveway). So next up is a metal radiator, front bumper, driveshaft carrier bearing, brush bar, alignment, plate and drive.
