Its definitely something different. We had talked quite some time ago about making a tube header for the HY35 I had picked up, but that went away. I then had him make the new exhaust for the factory setup, so I was kind of being cheap about it asking about factory placement. Then I don't need a new downpipe as well.

Oh gotcha . Stock placement . I was wondering why you didn’t do equal length . But I don’t know how much difference it makes

Today's mini project seemed to go well. I was getting very little air from the defroster vent, so I pulled the DS knee board to investigate. Turns out one of my cables had detached itself at the controls and was just moving around. I held it in place, and was able to get everything to move as it should.

Now on to the "seemed" part. Drove the car to work tonight, and had zero heat! I honestly think it was cooker inside the car than outside. Now I need to investigate this. Not sure what changed on that front between Friday and tonight...

One down, one to go... nice. Any chance you need to burp some air from the coolant system?

That's a possibility. I'm going to make sure all my cables stayed on with the reasembly, then try to bleed the system. It's getting colder here now, so need to make that work soon!

It's fixed for now...

As some have pointed out, I did have some air in the system. I filled the tank, and ran it without the cap for a while. Watched the tank level drop significantly... So filled back up and hasn't moved. There is also the issue of the cables no longer being attached to the box. I don't mean where the eyes wrap around the pegs on the arms, but the clips that hold the outer plastic to the heater box. So for now, they are zip tied to the floor vent to keep them from moving. It actually worked extremely well! I can cylce through the different vent positions and adjust the heat level! I'll have to pull the dash out at a later date and fix it correctly.

That was the reason why I wanted to get the defroster working. It's getting colder enough around here at night to frost the windows.

Does your 80 have bleeder vents on the top of the coolant hoses going through the firewall on the passenger side? That's about the best spot to vent coolant, as it's the high point in the system.

I still have OEM heater hoses for now, so the bleeder is there. I'm not sure how old the hoses are though, so I'm almost afraid to open that bleeder again. Who knows if it will seal again.

In other news, the passenger front CV boot seems to have let go. The inside of the wheel has grease on it, along with grease on several other things. I need to pull the wheel and see if it's just the clamp came off, or if the boot is torn.

Getting our first snow of the season here in South Central PA... I really expected it to blow right past like all the early storms normally do, but I was wrong! I haven't fixed the CV boot yet, and didn't bother to change over to snow tires. Once again, no playing in the snow for David...

So it has been a while. Nothing really happening with the bandit this winter, as I have been slowly working in the CQ. Last night we were kind of slow, so I decided now was time to do something for it!

I have a rather large 58mm turbo with a #8 hot side. I also have an Audi K26 #6 housing laying around. I wondered if I could make the big turbo fit into the smaller housing. Seeing as lots of people have them machined for HX35s, I figured I would give it a go. I made a chucking fixture and went to town. I made all the dimensions the same as the #8 housing. I had to take about .300" out of everything!
Image

Unfortunately, I found out that this particular housing is cracked...
Image

It will have to do for now, it's all I have. As you can see, some of the volute has.been machined away. The #8 housing has been ground to make it have a full circle again. Is this necessary? Might be a dumb question, but I don't know. Pic shows ground area
Image

The final result...
Image

While it does appear to fit, it in fact does not. It appears I have cut the wrong radius in the back, so I need to put it back up and address that. It doesn't seem to be hitting by much, but hitting is still hitting. I'll update when I can.

Can't wait to finally see what this turbo does, I've watched that thing shelf surf for literally 15yrs at this point, glad you're finally putting it to use.

It will be interesting for sure. I figure I can give it a fighting chance with a smaller turbine housing haha.

I did get it to fit just now! I ended up having to cut a larger radius in the housing. All is well now. I still need to figure out if I need to complete the circle in the volute portion of the housing.

So tomorrow the new tires for the bandit should be here! They are classified as an "all season," but with the very straight line tread, I don't see how! They will be mounted on the borbet's from the CQ, and the CQ will be getting the Cab/80 comp wheels.

I probably shouldn't be this excited, but the summer tires I have are more than 10 years old, so I've been kind of babying them...

The tires took an extra day to get here, but they did show up. Accelera PHI-R 215/45/16. Fairly soft compound. We shall see how well they hold up.
Image

I took the borbet's off the CQ and cleaned them up.
Image

Got the tires mounted up today and on the car. Quick trip around the block to settle the suspension. I like the look of the semi dished 5 spoke wheels more than the 6 spoke cab wheels

Totally agree, the five spokes are so classic on the B3/4 chassis cars.

Initial thoughts on the rubber?

So I have driven the car every day to work this week. They are pretty quiet, and hold the ground well. I haven't gotten a chance try drive in the rain yet, but on wet roads they seem to be ok. I will call BS on the "215" part though. They are definitely a narrower tread patch than my old ones, listed as the same width.

So far so good I guess.

Yeah oddly enough, section width can be a bit misleading.

One thing I really like about tirerack.com is that they offer contact patch measurements. Some tyres are +1 which is great (like more rubber for the same money) until it isn't because you start rubbing when your measurements said it shouldn't be a problem lol. Learned that the hard way with Dunlop Direzza Sport Star Specs a few years back. Some spacers did the trick so I came out ahead in the end.

Well it's been a while, but finally have something to post again. I've been having some major sync loss issues lately. Know that I'm running a hall sensor on the trigger wheel, up front, I doubt that's it. It does it after it gets hot, so I'm figuring the hall sensor in the dizzy is going bad. It's an MC2 dizzy, so figure 1990 ish for build date.

I found a new dizzy on amazon by MTC. Listed for "Audi 5 cylinder". I figured for the $23 shipped amazon wanted for it(normally $83) figured it was worth the gamble because the 200 2.2l was listed. Well it came in as a 5 window, so no good there. Now it's in pieces, waiting for me to pull the dizzy from the car and swap shafts.

Well as ELaw stated on MG, I pulled the plug from the dizzy after it was running, and it stayed running...

So this happened.
Image

Had to pull the whole front end and intercooler to get to the crank damper. I've always thought that maybe this trigger wheels "missing teeth" were too tall. They are just shallower than the OD of the trigger wheel.

Not a great pic but you get the idea
Image

I also found one of the alt bracket bolts was completly backed out and just chilling in the bracket. Yes, I know, I need to get PS hoses, that's the leak you see on everything..Image

There is also a small amount of oil in the intercooler plumbing. Enough that I felt the need to wipe the small pool out of the coupler when I took off the intercooler. Looks like the seals on the turbo may be going bad. Good think I have the hybrid to put on it haha.

My uncle killed my dremel, so I spent some time figuring out what happened, and now I'm tired. I got the dremel working again, and waiting on a reply about cutting that area down some. Now it's time for bed.
