Some years ago while doing an engine swap I got tired of knocking off the nuts, bolts, and tools that were lined up along the fenders, above the head lights, and where ever else I could place them. There are various solutions to this problem but I came up with my own to suit my personal needs and made these flexible magnetic pads to keep all those nuts and bolts together and organized. After requests from friends I made more and then through word of mouth I have been making and selling even more. Now I am making them available here first with discounted shipping for anyone interested as I put together a website.
Details:
The magnetic pads are made here in Washington by me with a high quality vinyl that is resistant to oil, gasoline, antifreeze, brake fluid, etc. They are made to last in the automotive environment and have a high abrasion and impact resistance, flame retardant, anti-fungal, and are mildew resistant. I have not had one fail in the couple years they have been in use and offer a guarantee that they will hold up to anything you put on them (note: acetone and brakleen will dull the vinyl, use a rag with water to clean off any fluids left on the pads for longest life). They have a strong enough hold to keep a half inch drive ratchet in place but not too much to where you are fighting with it to get tools off. The strength of the hold is relative to the surface area of a tool making contact with the magnets so although a half inch drive ratchet will stay on it, if only a few inches of the handle is making contact it would not stay put if the pad is placed at any angle other than flat.
Not only do they work for automotive use but I have sold them to fishermen, seamstresses, bartenders and others who have found different uses for them. I keep one on my refrigerator for bottle openers, mailbox keys, and use bottle caps to attach notes.
