B4 Carbon Fiber hoods : NO LONGER FOR SALE

Postby ChrisAudi80 » Fri Mar 14, 2014 11:02 pm

*UPDATE*
Marc @ EFI is willing to sell these at $925 each.

*UPDATE UPDATE*

Price has dropped to 850 each! Common guys, you know you want one.

------------------------------------------------------------

After talking with Hank a long time ago, he asked me to post this up.

This is to gauge interest.

I have 12 B4 CF hoods for sale, but willing to ship 8 or 10.
They are in Thailand, so need to be shipped to where ever they need to go.
They each have a large cardboard box. To make it affordable logistically, they all need to go to one address.
Alternatively, the hoods can be shipped in one big crate, thereby reducing the shipping cost some.
Hank said he MIGHT be willing to act as hub for importing these to the USA.

Pics are of the prototype on my beater.
They weigh approx 7.5 to 8 kg each.
They bolt in and latch like stock, but no provision for the gas strut. This could twist or damage the hood in time.
They do not have a full skeleton because they are made with a honeycomb layer (Sorix).

The unit prices really depends on many things like exchange rate, number shipped and receiver/handler's fee. Import duty to the USA is 2.5% of CIF value.
If anyone has a company with a forwarders account that would help a lot with cost.

However, let me tell you this: You will not find a batch of B4 CF hoods anywhere else in the world ready to go for this price.

Sending just one a time is not viable. Post up if you are interested and we'll see how many want one and we can go from there.

I friend of mine just had a bunch of CF shipped from the UK, obviously different but I can ask who he used. I'd love to save the weight but doubt I could commit.

I was wondering about the skeleton, but when you said sorix I smiled. That stuff is awesome and I know because of my short time in the composites industry. Seriously strong, yet light stuff! Anyone who has doubts because of the skeleton thing, trust me when I say you shouldn't worry. Looks great Chris!

Mine was stolen just before shipping. :'( Thankfully Petar refunded my money no hassle.

I'm interested at a good price shipped to/from IMS.

Maybe if people could give an idea of what they consider to be a "reasonable" price...

Let's be realistic here. There is the cost of the hood, shipping, handling charges and import tax.
I am not looking to make a profit anymore, just to sell.

$500-700 delivered to Hank's would get some interest I'd think.

I'd so be down for a T44 carbon fiber hood. If only.

I might be tempted to try it one day a few years down the road...

I was going to say, as things go a fairly "flat" hood would be fairly easy to make. The B4 is more of a pain because of the beak; I've thought about staying B3 and making a CF hood like a IMSA 90.

But...

It will be more than that including the shipping.
I know what I need for the hoods themselves, but the uncertainty is the shipping cost to Hank. I got some shipping quotes a while back, but that was for shipping them in their boxes. A crate 150x150x150cm would lower the cost, but its all the fixed costs that add up.
Airfreight is out.

If Hank could chime in with his thoughts?

yeah, you could ship them to the east coast if you want. I can also pick them up from a seaport if that drops the cost significantly. it all depends on price as everyone on here has shown....

I'm down for 1 if the price is right. perhaps you should tell us what you need out of each hood to be satisfied, then we could wait to find out what the shipping would add to it Chris. I for one would prefer them go to IMS, but that's because I could drive down and pick it up and not have 2 shipping cost kicks to the junk. but that's just me. (no offense Marc)

I would like Hank and Marc to have an opportunity to move on these first. Publicizing my price now would not be in their interest.

Marc, did you get my last PM?

Hmm, strange. I did not see a reply to my last PM sent on March 24th.
Site hiccup maybe?

In any case, thanks for posting.
