Rear Coilovers for 1991 Audi 200

I want this to used with Chris's write up for the T44 coilover setup. Addresses a few of the issues/trouble I had.
I list the places I personally purchased items, google and find lower prices/alternatives!

Step #1: Replace factory Bilstein circlip with Akron Bearing Snap Ring Part#5100-200.



Step #2: Assemble coilover parts
I assembled mine as sleeve, perch, helper spring, coupler, spring, top hot, then reused the setup minus top spring perch off stock.

I have found that an untouched Bilstein sport strut isn't a great match to the 550lb spring. They bounce a bit at least in my car.

This is as low as I can go without bottoming out and without adding more camber. With two passengers in the rear it rubs on small bumps.

I feel this way also, it kills the previous set on there which compressed and never rebounded after they were taken off, however. I still feel like it is super bouncy compared to what I was expecting.

That is definitely the nature of the Bilstein sports. The truth is, they are really not valved for more than about 350 lb/in in stock form. Of course, they can be re-valved to your liking. Its either that, Koni yellows, or some custom Konis.

How do you go about getting them revalved? Just send them in? What is ideal for revalving for the Bilstein sports on this setup?

Yep, just send them in to Bilstein. Make sure to insure them though... they lost mine somehow and tried to blame it on the mail (yeah right, I know they received the package because it had delivery confirmation)... I fought with them for months and had to make threats that I'd spend every waking minute of my time tarnishing their name all over the internet if they didn't make it right. They finally gave in and sent me some brand new ones. The only problem is that they didn't shorten or re-valve them appropriately and I had to fight with them for another month or two before they gave in again and made it right.

ANYWAY, I'm not honestly sure what damping coefficients they use when they re-valve, but they just ask you the weight of the vehicle and the spring rate and re-valve it accordingly. That is pretty much all of the info they need to do it appropriately (as far as the mathematics are concerned anyway).

The blue bushings came with the upper tie rod bar. The ones for the sub-frame are UrS4 aftermarket Rear sub-frame from Apikol with a new inner sleeve I had made at work to fit the 200.

was that the shortest shock you could find? It seems that this shock would be close to constantly riding on the bumpstop. I am looking for a solution for the rear of my car. I put the shock in and raised the suspension up the the exact ride height I wanted to make the car level with the front and my rear shock is basically bottomed out. I need a shorter shock body. any suggestions... It seams like the part number you gave is only 1/2" shorter than factory
