did some stuff today after we got back from the long drive out to see Thomas the Train. and the train ride that made me nauseous as all can be... but the Chub loved it, had a hell of a time....

finished mounting the AWIC reservoir. i would have fitted and tacked the ports, but somebody has borrowed my TIG machine, working on a Zermatt something or other car.... and i have the general coolant reservoir designed and located in the car. now just to finish building it.

my major step today was to do the car harness. this is not the motor harness, but basically all the rest of the wiring. all the gauges, dash panels, switches, etc. next step is to make a relay plate and mount it, mount fuse block, etc. i like to make my own wiring stuff, its cool.... this is all easily removed panels for cluster and console. Molex are the shit. solder, heat shrink, multi colors... its all in my head.

harness by me. 100%. electronics parts house for connectors, pins, etc. the rest, all out of my head.

and axles came today. they look really nice. makes me want to get this thing done more and more now. rabbit is takin up half the garage though :( it will be back in storage soon enough LOL.

all new bearings, press in studs, spline-plug/tripod style inners with super tough boots.

oh those balls are easy.... dab of grease they stay in.

did the rear end today. brakes, axles, park brake cables, the works. also built the coolant reservoir. pretend TIG welder LOL. but i am doing it myself, only way to learn is to get out and DO IT.

also did a front brakes job for a neighbor. gives new meaning to "Will work for BEER" got an 18 outta it :)

craptastical celly pix.

look at you welding aluminum all nice and schit. looking good, looking good.

on a side note, i think im going with the reservoir-less coolant system, cause i can mount my rad high enough so that the cap is the highest point in the system. pics hopefully to come this week

still plinking away.

made windshield support brace. pretty large surface area to run 1/8" lexan without some stiffener help. 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/16" aluminum angle bracing right down the middle.

and i made the fuse/relay plate, and started the wiring. i am going to final paint the interior up front, so the dash and wiring can go in and stay in. ECU will mount down low below the fuse panel. i am sort of a nerd when it comes to wiring, i like things to be nice and simple.

gutted the rabbit yesterday :( but i needs the motor.... and sucks it is an Auto crank.

pulled the manual crank from the spare block, sent out today for polishing etc. since i run main studs in this motor, no new parts. bearings had 20 passes and ~40 dyno pulls, but replacing them cuz its cheap. new thrusts, too. and seals while we are there.

just gotta swap out the auto crank for manual, and make a driver side mount. that is tomorrow.... will use the >550WHP (2wd mind you) ((pink motor)) tune and setup with the new big turbo. so it will be close to the same output, less for drivetrain loss.

the pink motor is CAT 3652's in a worked over AWP head. 82mm pistons, 144mm rods, 86.4mm stroke = 1825cc. springs and retainers only in head, on Raceware headstuds. OEM lifters, valves, etc.

the big motor is CAT 3756's Billet cams with solid lifters in a non-ported AEB head. 83.5mm pistons, custom 150mm rods, 86.4mm stroke = 1895cc. springs, retainers, ex valves and +1mm intakes, solid lifters, ARP headbolts.

the pink motor runs 1000cc injectors on C-16. the big motor will run 1600cc injectors on E85. but that change will happen after it is run in on the old tune and C-16. new cams, etc, run @ 2k rpm for 20 minutes. low boost load pulls to seat rings. blah blah blah. and on to some goofy pix. i like doin weird shit like this, dont ask me why. i think it looks cool like this is all. definitely looks bigger out of the car than in it for sure.

and done. AEB/058 block now resides in the chassis. minor modification to the back side mount, had to add a spacer for the lower bolt, and just clearance a tiny bit around the water port.

had to make an all new driver/front side mount, as i knew i would. cool thing about my setup is that with one or the other motor mounts missing, the motor does not budge, fall, lean, drift, or any other movement. it stays put. so it was semi-simple to make the mount. first mod the rear mount. then make the plating for the block itself. and that kinda sucked because the 4 bolt holes i used are all on different planes. oh well, that shit goes nowhere.

so bolt on the rear mount, slap motor into place and make the trans to motor bolts, bolt the mount, done and in place. then it was just a matter of making both plates mate up after i made a new mount plate for the body side...

He sent his wife and kids on a trip, so that he had time to do anything, then decided to steal the motor from the Bunny to get his Coupé running.

I thought this was the plan the whole time?

Something about the guy that does his tuning only has a 2wd dyno, so he's going to put the new motor in the rabbit to get it tuned, than put it back in the CQ where it belongs.

hmmmm. well, one guy knows whats up. one guy has a great theory. ADHD and impatience both play a part of it.

but i am doing this for a couple of reasons. but the basic one is that this is a complete new setup, totally all new setup. by using the rabbit (pink) motor, i can remove the motor issues from the equation, and focus on the chassis itself. that and i am really running out of time to get this thing down the track. so by doing this, i take 3-4 weeks off my deadline for break-in of the motor and tuning of it. start with a fully tuned setup and go from there. but this car WILL (!!!!!) be on the dragstrip this year.

original plans were to have everything done and driving by the June 1st private track rental day i am a part of. did not happen for a variety of reasons. but the main reason it was pushed back at that time was the original friend that was going to build the head had already had all my parts with him when he got called to Nigeria for work. so he had to leave in a hurry and go, and left the parts for his roommate to ship to me. well, roomie didnt see it as a priority, and i got the stuff much later. and that put a huge impact on my original deadline. so i had to make alternate arrangements.

it has just taken longer than i wanted it to, and this is the only way its gonna happen.

i bought the harness for it early this year, and i will be bummed if i dont use it this year. and the slicks, bought in prep for the June 1 day.

it will be moving under its own power soon enough.

but i have a full time job, and a wife and child at home that i do not (for the most part) ignore. so its not like i just work on this car, i do so in free time. and if i gotta buy free time so be it. (this was the second time its worked out that way, and in a couple more weeks imma do it again :) )

so there you have it. hopefully some questions answered and that it makes as much sense to you as it does to me.

ADHD, yeah i got it. oh well.... i thinks ALOT!!!

i seriously entertained this as a thought. but if i did go up to HPConnection, i would just drop the driveline and tune it FWD there. the dyno in my town that i am hooked up with has AWD dyno's. and we are going to do a remote-terminal tuning session with Kevin, so it will be perfect. he will be at his home in PA and will run my laptop while my car is on dyno here in Oregon.

but since plans changed for the rabbit i just started them early is all.
