Sorry Jerry doesn't have the crank you need.
I can come out of retirement and paint it for you. I have all the
gear you just need the base colors and clear.
We can talk this weekend.

haha.... i am gonna laugh if you did what you were gonna!!!

i am driving to Seattle tomorrow evening (8 hrs roundtrip) for a crank. seems like i may be wasting money on my crank that MAY work out. and not trying to waste, ya know?

an AZ'r hit me, has one in good shape. all stock motor, pulled for stroker build. sounds perfect for me, not one of those progressively built up cars that was beat on until it was "time" to go to the next level.

WOOHOO!!!!!

Hey Aaron I found a whole wrecked A4 (with AEB low mileage) here for $650. I'd pick it up but I don't have anywhere to keep a wrecked car.

and Guru, no problem. seems those catz over there, just want to bitch and whine. i think my blanket statement about times and running them pretty much said what i felt. and for those of us MG'rs that are not there, here is a quick rundown:

someone posted up Guru's runs and times @ Waterfest. and it became a typical E-dick swinging contest. sooo many whiners. i was doing me best to try and derail the bitch-fest.... was slammin those doods for their spelling, etc. schooling them on the origin of Grasshopper name and all... the thread got cleansed by MODS once, and then locked. but i got sick of hearing (reading) their stuff, so i posted this, as it is all that needs said:

oh yes. and here is a video of said car that everyone is bitching about. until you personally run a 10.9 or a 133 mph trap speed, you have no place to talk in a thread like this other than to offer congratulations and props to the guy who did it, or ask questions pertaining to his accomplishments and/or setup. and if you are fortunate enough or skilled enough to have run either of the aforementioned numbers, that does not give you the right to talk shit about it here in this thread, as it is about him and his car, not you and yours.

video is in the process of uploading. come back or kick back, it'll be here shortly.

thats all.

oh. and that crank up in Seattle. there is a slight chance that he will be able to DELIVER IT TO ME TOMORROW MORNING FREE!!!!! seems his parents are taking a trip and coming down into Oregon, tomorrow morning. and he is going to ask if they would bring it down for me. i would easily double his asking price to save an 8 hr (not including Seattle/Bellevue traffic @ rush hour both ways) roundtrip drive tomorrow evening.

and i got down on the car for a bit tonight. after getting the crank situation figured out. i took a nice lil nap.

then i did the power system. i mounted the batt box already. but i ran all the wiring for the whole car. now just the starter and alternator needs finished.

drilled and mounted the rear cutoff switch. mounted twin breakers up front, with easy access from the outside of the car "in case". one line is the feed after the cutoff, the second line is the alternator charge line. it goes direct to batt side of cutoff. this way the cutoff works as it should. each line has its own CB up front as well. we learned something from sorting Janis out with the switch....

Thanks for the offer. But I don't even have enough money for my one Audi, let alone to drop a VR6 and fix the front clip of another.

But if you want the whole thing with a clear title and 60k AEB for $650, I'll take the beltline trim as a finders fee

i called but you didnt answer.

if it still ran, IE no timing belt issue, i would take it to gut out the drivetrain and crush the rest of it.

LMK.... you got my number.

so i got the new crank.... WOOHOO!!!!!! back in business. (for a whole day.)

its at the machine shop now, polishing, magnaflux, pin the gear on the crank, etc. so its all good there.

i get home and decide now is the time to pull the crank (auto) out of the pink motor.

Drain oil. CHECK!
Pull timing gear. CHECK!
Flip motor and pull pan. CHECK!
Notice crank has end play. HMMMMMM. check with caliper; 1.11mm end-to-end play. just great, i says to self. DSM-itis here. i swear if it aint one thing its three others. FACK!!!!!!
Scat rods look to be in beautiful shape. CHECK!
underside of pistons, look brand new. CHECK! (they should, with maybe 60 pulls and 20 passes LOL)
Pull rod bolts. CHECK!
Rod bearings all have the same wear pattern, just barely starting to wear in. CHECK!
Pull mains. CHECK!

this is a few pictures of #3 center main cap. this motor was assembled with 2 pc center main bearings with integrated thrust, not a 6 pc setup with divorced thrust bearings. the bearing is still intact, albeit the thrust is a little thin on the flywheel side. it has a nice groove in the main cap and the block wall. but i do not think it will affect operation, with a new bearing/thrust set.

anyone want to give advice? if i cant use this block, this time around "i quit" is much further along. the other block would have to be bored to 82mm as that is the piston size. i am not really wanting to rebuild this motor to use as temporary in the car. even though the motor is the real motor for the rabbit, that is a different project. and this is another one of those hits that just keep on comin' and do not go away so easily. seems lately that if it werent for bad luck i wouldnt have any.

on to the pictures as thats what you really want to see. i am goin to post this up separately as well, i may get more input that way.....

and views... its thin, but did not come into the bearing race AT ALL. can i run it with new bearings? (begs please)

as a side note, i think this may be why i was throwing alternator belts when i first ran that motor. also, i am wondering if it had to do with the big ass clutch in the car? it has a dual diaphragm pressure plate, i think 2600 lbs..... LWFW, and 6 puck sprung hub disc.

any thoughts?

Man that awesome you are back in bizzz, I almost thought I will need to run some NOS to get first USA cq in a 9ns. Why rod bearings look so wasted?? I think I have 15k mile on mine, I guess is time to check them,

Heavier FL is better for a drag not so god on you transmission or syncros if you have it. In a real life 20+lbs FLY will do the trick all day long.. I did run 7lbs aluminum FW, melted loads of clutches.

not back in biz, Janis. those bearings are 60 pulls and 20 passes old. it is worn into block and main cap. can i run it like is? with the new bearings? or do i need to decide whether to dump even more bux into it and have my spare block bored for the rods/pistons?

I don't have anything really constructive to contribute...other than a desire to gain a little knowledge.

So that is a groove in the 3rd main bearing?...which was somehow caused by the crank riding off to one side slightly?

I don't see exactly what would rub right there to cause that groove. its hard to tell how deep it is from the pics too. I guess almost deep enough to come thru the back of the bearing?
