it starts pretty good and idles great for having some old crappy gas. this thing idles smoother than my 4kq and is quiet to boot. i know the gas is crap cause when i get on it a little in 2nd gear it pings like mad. i'm gonna see if i can get it up on the hoist tonight and drain the tank and put fresh fuel in. this thing is tight as a drum man, i'm still in shock
You suck and so does the guy that sold you that. It still have the foam blocks on the fenders to keep the water from flowing down the top of the fender. Has the injector cooler. has the proper Air temp sensor and the original wiring.
WAIT, WAIT. Who painted the cam cover? WHo's car was this?
Pressure's on you now not to screw the car up. :-)

the cam, timing cover, and oil pan were all painted silver.
the car used ot belong to a Clyde hagerty. i don't think he'll mind his name being mentioned since he's passed away.
Okay I have it all planned out for you. Leave the car stock. A car in that condition is going to be worth some decent money in the future. Trust me cars in that condition are few and far between. A good few weekends of TLC and that car will be really clean. You can't find some of the parts for that car anymore.Even the twin light bezels are in good condition.
the paint is toast, there's no amount of cleaning or buffing that will fix it or make it any better than it currently is...period. a paint jorb is the only course of action to make it nice again. i hate painting and body work, but this one will be worth it. everything i change on the car will be bolt on and all the orginal parts will be spared.

and with all the trim bits and pieces cleaned up and painted nice new black that would help too. along with an updated set of front headlights and grille....and tinted windows and taillights...
Don't you DARE fit one of those oil cooler spec rear spoiler's, IMO they do not suit the thinner lines of the ur, they look good on an A1/2 ur. A decent suspension job, euro bumpers and some decent wheels with some Porsche mono's behind them. Then go daft on the hp (20v of course) Nomex flame suit on and waiting for the grief from those that have the huge spoiler on thin ur's.
Most of all Derek, it's a car. A very special one, but it's still just a car. Drive it, enjoy it. I LOOOOOOOVE mine and will never sell it, but it's still a car. Paint it whatever color you want, since it needs it anyway- I'll put in a vote for white The US cars aren't much fun to drive stock anyway, so have a little fun with it! As far as mods there are huge number that qualify as improvements that happen to increase performance in one way or another, as I'm sure you're aware, and no one gets to flame you for it. Wiring is #1! Ditch the stock radiator(s) and no one gets to complain, until you do it'll run hot when run hard. The AC just hangs 100lbs on the nose, blocks airflow to the radiator, and sucks anyway. Put the stock headlamps in a box and store them away for the future. Be prepared to spend $$ for parts too- mine has averaged about $100 per startup since I got it in 99 :tard: That's why I have a 4kcsq to beat the crap out of, it drives about the same!

lucky b@@@@@@@d.
Cheers,
Craig Cook.
Conrats!! I concur with Craig, leave it stock... it has survived so long that way... True enthusiasts will appriciate the originality and patina of such car in the near future. Many people don't like Gobi, but that was actually my first Audi.. a 1982 Gobi Coupe FWD.. I grew to love that color.. you can go months without washing the car and it will still look great! BTW, Fuchs are the wheels of choice.. want yours back??
Also, it looks like the car might have Billies on there...

Great score Derek! I'm not sure I would prefer owning the UR over your white 4kq, but for the price- its killer!
I have two semi related questions.
Since these car appear to be very colectable in the eyes of Audi enthusiasts, how can they be insured. Does anyone know of an underwriter willing to write a collector policy for them?
Is there a measurable, enjoyable difference between the transmissions (gearing and drivability) of the 83 vintage trans vs the later ones?

You should check the press transducer in the ECU.. I've seen few of these failing and causing pinging above anythign more than 4psi. SHe would be rocket fast up to that point thaouh with lots of torque and quick spool up due to ignition advance.
