yup, had two minor cracks in it from someone bashing it against something. tough sucker though. it's still nice and flat.

Yeah, they're tough. The one I got from Rob DuPree a couple years ago was on a rally car and obviously received some hard knocks. It did crack and was welded. But you can tell it took a heck of a hit before cracking and it's still almost flat on the bottom.

well, back to the shop and on with things 8) i'm tearing the stock motor out today because it's going to a new home on sunday (and not being stored here :roll: ) and the transmission and driveline will be coming out as well in preparation for steam cleaning probably sunday.

last week i installed a ground control coilover kit on my friends CQ and got his old springs to try on this car. according to a coil spring calculator i found online, the stock springs are about 75lber's, and the CQ's are about 115lb'ers. so about 40% or so stiffer than stock. i put them on and it raised the car about a 1/4 inch. and this is with shot upper strut mounts. so i think i'll cut the spring perches and slide the front ones down until the touch the steering arms which should give me about 3/4" drop and still leave the car at a respectable ride height for daily duty.

good Idea. I have an extra set of cq springs and a 4kq rallcross POS that could use a lift!

how hard are CQ springs to come by, Derek are they stiffer then the 80q springs?

They are IIRC, only compared by my butt between my old coupe and my buddies 80. Shawn you would be able to use my springs far before I will ever get around to it. If you are interested send me a pm. I am always excited about trades

i believe they are stiffer, but it wouldn't be too terribly much and only because the CQ springs are a bit lower than the standard 80/90q springs (which btw, i've been told there's no difference in between 20v and 20v springs on the sedans).

so 80/90's and CQ's would be a wash in difference due to the lower ride height...

engine is out! got it out yesterday along with the tranny and driveshaft.

whoever's idea it was to put that stupid locktite on the tranny end driveshaft bolts is a dolt... those sucked and caused me to whack my hands on the floor board when they'd snap loose :curses:

MO PITCHA'S!!!! :P

man, yesterday was busy. i got the donor 20v engine out of the 200 20v, got my car up in the air, dropped the suspension, removed the battery tray (thanks to my best friend doing a really careful job), steam cleaned everything i could find, put new tranny and diff mounts in the subframes from my white car(along with a new rear diff mount... what a booger), and then bolted them up. the rear now has a swaybar 8) and the rear exhaust section was hung as well and that about wrapped everything up at 10:30 last night :oops:

this is the original diff and subframe... the rear axles still have the yellow paint on the bolts and everything appeared to be original.. :o

and this morning came in... ooooooo, nice and clean :)

now that the 20v engine is in the stand, i'll be pulling the head, dissassembling it for cleaning, which will probably mean hot tanking and bead blasting at the machine shop for that fresh new look. then the block will be dissassembled for cleaning, probably hot tanking as well, and get prepped for the new ARP mainstuds, coated bearings, and rods. i'm thinking about doing a minor port clean out with the porting bits as well since.. i have it apart :P i'll probably also weigh the pistons and make sure they are all balanced too.... i tell ya, i not only stared the slippery slope in the face, i ran towards it and jumped over it.. without a parachute :P

she's plenty dirty now... but i can't wait to get er' cleaned up :)

i also have to clean the harness up... ick, that thing's filthy, can't have that ;) :P

Derek, you piece'o'crap. That car is 20 years old, not 2. I should've taken pictures at how ratted out the bottom of my car is...and it's relatively clean for a midwest car. There's no oil, dirt, leakage, rust, corrosion, or anything on that stuff! BAH!

I love the pictures. I wish the underside of my car and all the bits and pieces still looked like the stuff thats on that car.

here's the parts supply stash so far :D engine mounts, plug wires, fuel filter, dist. cap and rotor, timing belt, water pump, thermostat, head gasket set, ARP headstuds, oil pan gasket, upper strut mounts, mance mount savers, center support, lifters, timing chain, oil filter, brass dist. gear, steering rack boot... speaking of which, i was glad i got one cause mine was cracked..

Yuck, steering rack boot leak, first time Ive seen that on a 4kq. I love seeing new parts laid out tooo!

Im not looking forward to the center driveshaft bearing RR :(

well, projected to be finished asap :P i'm awaiting a few parts, but other than that, i'll get done all that time allows me to this trip here to CA, then try and finish it up next time i come back. i should have the trans and the rest of the driveline back in it by tonight or tomorrow as rain's coming and the car is outside.... i don't work in the rain :P i do have to say that we are having a fantastic weather streak at the moment... 60+F and the sun's out 8)

as to the steering boot leak... AFAIK, the rack wasn't leaking, the boot was just cracked from age.
