sure what you got for 4kq parts?
i need

b5 a4 1.8t clutch and fw
4 green tops
a k24
most of a 3b dp
034 16v wastespark coil
rs2 trans mount arms

um and maybe some other small stuff

and a shartload of 2" aluminum tubing

You might want to spring for the 80 FWD 4-cyl flywheel, as it is a single mass unit, which you could probably find if you posted up in the swap meet. If you PM me, I can tell you of someone who will modify that flywheel for a 240mm clutch, and can also provide the FW. Also, wouldn't a holset be better for power than a K24? Just looking out for you.[/quote]

ok as for the k24, its a winter only, beater , uber cheap build, mostly from parts that I and friends have lying around. the t-red car will get the good stuff, while the s4 gets teh real motorsport stuffs.

hmmm as for the flywheel, how much loot are we talking here? purchase, machining, etc?

Yes the 4K's shifter is fixed to the chassis, it doesn't take much movement to bind it up during shifts. The 5k's shifter is almost the same except it has a bar connected to the transmission, and the shifter itself floats. So if the transmission moves up, down, front back the shifter moves with it reducing binding on shifts.

ah ok so the shifter box is out on a floating mount that is an arm off the trans

ok so now the decision is 5k or b5 s4 linkage, i wanted the s4 gear as it has the extra support/alignment arm

and with all new mounts i shouldnt get much movement at all
plus its jsut a lowly 16v VW motor

hah

Post by Toxcheap »

yeah the 5k 200 A4 S4 all have that extra support arm
Honestly if you want the extra support arm go with the 5k so much easier for you install
Damn have you even checked my site for pics??? LOL

4k 5k and 90

haha thanks for the info, jsut checking the site out now, thanks for the advice

ok now for last questions

5k linkage bolts right on to o1e, no probs?

would using b5 s4 gear, allow me a much better short shifter selection? or would they not work in a small chassis car anyway?
Toxcheap

Post by Toxcheap »

Well in that pic you can see how the 5k shifter would bolt right in and just need the boot and rods. The b5 S4 uses a different style shifter all together. I have a picture uploaded here some where. I'll try to find it. Generally you use the b5 s4 linkage when you get a b5 01E and the urs4 linkage when you get the urs4 01E

I got mine for $35, but that was practically a steal :) I haven't looked into the machining costs yet. You should really look into an HX-40. That might be as cheap as the K24.

Sorry I got a little wound up Tim. Looking forward to getting those wheels on Tuesday. Just a bit of constructive criticism and I'm not trying to be a dick but, may be be a little more realistic with when you will be able to ship things. At any rate both of your 4k's are f n sick. I was looking around for either a nice 4k or CQ and the coupe popped up first. I will probably own one before to long though. Thanks again.

yeah, i may have found an aba, so ill be going to check that out soon

its not an obd1 but im going to scoop up a forged crank and get the oil squirters machined in, seems a lot easier than finding an obd1 bottom end in good shape

haha ok will do, its def good for being seen! haha

ill be sure to let everyone know, only reason id sell it is to make a SQ project with a mint frame / shell

i couldnt do it to this car as its sooo clean and repainted etc

ok so im about to replace the master cylinder for the clutch, and i figured while im in there i should probably to a engine/trans swap!!! so out comes the JT today!!!

16vT is in the works 6/14/2010

it must be done for deep snow rally action this winter!!!!!!!!!!!

i got an obd2 aba complete with trans etc and lots of other parts to sell off for FREEE!! and got it delivered for free!! woot, its not an obd1 with oil squirters and forged crankshaft so im buying a forged stroker crank and will be machining the block for oil squirters.

pics to come!!

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a block that has squirters already? I think machining for those = $$$
