1991 Audi 200 20v acquired

Hello all, I am new here and new to Audi ownership. I just purchased a lovely 200 20v. I have followed these cars for a while and when one popped up more nee me I jumped on it. I know a decent amount about the car but not all-knowing. The car is unmolested with 191xxx miles, Runs like a top, only things that were done are Bilstein shocks all around, and some fixing of know problems done by the previous owner. This being said I had a couple of questions.
1. what oil should I run, from what I have heard 10w40 is what is standard (I live in western Washington so it is cold and rainy every single day in the winter)
2. I am hearing a noise from what seems to be from power steering pump. Hoping for some insight here.

Welcome to the forum, you've found the right place!

Oil:

I live a fair amount north, and run Shell Rotella T6 5w40 with great success, year round. Cheap, easy to find, and high in ZDDP which helps reduce wear. Of course, everyone has a favourite they're loyal towards. Bobistheoilguy is an impressive forum for oil if you haven't heard of it.

PS whine:

Have you tried flushing the fluid and see if that reduces the noise? Tests have shown newer spec OEM fluid removed zinc from the formula which leads to increased wear and noise. A good off-the-shelf solution is Redline PSF, which is easy to get and relatively cheap (especially compared to the OEM fluid!). I'd try that first and see if it cures your noise before getting too far into things.

Thanks much, i am also trying to figure out if my car has a performance chip. It is running a max of 1.6 bar as recorded by the car. Definatly feels quiker then 220hp.

Welcome! She's a beaut! Any plans for it?

The digital boost gauge may be scaled wrong if the pressure transducer was swapped out. This is common for chipped setups so they can run higher boost. The stock transducer reads 2bar absolute, while chips will usually use a 2.5bar transducer if they're not the stock one. That would mean 1.6bar reading would actually be 2bar, or about 15psi boost. Best way to check would be to hook up a boost gauge or crack open the ECU and take a peek.

I am glad you got on here Harrison. This community will help you with your new toy.

The car has had a TON done to it. See the list below for the items I addressed.

Full breather hose set (034)
Full intercooler hose kit (")
Full coolant hose kit (")
Street engine mounts
Throttle body boot
Replaced intercooler o-ring and cleaned plumbing
Trans mounts
Poly snub
Apikol rear diff mount
Front suspension overhaul (front was pretty shabby, rear feel and reacts fine) consisted of Bilstein HD strut insert, upper strut mounts, and strut bearings, inner and outer tie rods, bushings, dust boots, ect.
Full coolant flush with timing belt and water pump replacement, MFTS, coolant temp sensor, after run temp sensor, both knock sensors, 02 sensor, oil pressure sender, radiator temp switch, cleaned the resistor pack, new air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, cam seal, crank seal, lower pan gasket and pan side seal gasket, belts, oil pump gasket, valve cover gasket, all the stupid vac lines that run to the moisture trap and the ECU and everywhere else (I had the over boosting issue due to them being burnt to hell). Billet BPV, distributor hall sensor replacement, distributor brass cog upgrade, cap, rotor, and upgraded wire set, proper 3b specific spark plugs, and some other odds and ends I am sure I am forgetting.


Also, the car was never chipped from what I was told and I never saw any indication otherwise.

Good looking car . Don’t even think I saw it go up for sale I usually watch the local Craigslist.
