quick dyno comparo... Johnny this is most pertinent to you as this is the snail you have....
mine is the blue line. and the red line was a 2WD car.... i think i made some decent power for 3rd gear. last dyno it was 474 in 3rd, while 2WD when it was in the rabbit.

dyno chart of your good run, and Ed's T67 setup. His boost was 38 psi, yours was 35 psi... fairly close especially with the awd. Your car is in 3rd gear so in 4th it will spool up even better if anything.
I think we kept them to like 7700-7800 with stock springs. the AWD not hitting the rev limiter a million times will help durability.

wow. that t67 is gonna be laggy. although im not too worried about it cause that thing was on a 1.8l bottom end. so ive got a wee bit more displacement, so that'll helo with spool up hopefully....and def on the top end :woowoo:

and the head is wasted..... oh well, thats why people like me keep spares

running up to Joey's shop (DJM) and getting the parts they have already ordered and gotten for this.
it will be running again by tonight.
toasted head anyone?
will be running again tonight. running up to DJM for partz.....
blown head composition :
AWP head with lots of port work.
3652's cast.
OEM lifters.
OEM valves.
Raceware head studs.
ST springs/retainers.
custom compression loss portwork by dyno

head going in today:
AEB OEM casting.
3652's and lifters from blown head.
thats it. thats all. leaving all else OEM in the head. who cares right? proven i am not needing to turn to the moon to run this kind of power. 590
AWHP in 3rd gear @ 72-7500 rpm with only 35 psi..... it will be fine enough for the show....
although, i do have the fully built and waiting AEB Solid lifter head, but that would require more tuning.

I might be talking out of my ass here but that casting looks repairable to me, unless that water jet hole goes much deeper into the jacket.

Totally repairable. If you know somebody that does Aluminum welding it's probably worth fixing (looks like you do).
Otherwise 20v heads aren't that hard to come by. I just tossed an AEB head that was in better shape than that one...
Time for O-ringing?

Damn man that sucks, but from your response I can tell its not a first melt down for ya. Why did melt like that???? Ported to Close, is that same block, witch has troubles pushing coolant out??? 35 psi is defiantly not to much boost to that.

how bad was the car knocking? And can you read knock?

Janis, this most likely happened due to the fact that i never got this head checked from the last time i lifted it, first pass this year.... so it probably was not flat to begin with.
it may have happened due to the fact that we made a pass and forgot to turn on the AWIC pump. dunno. inlet temp went 52 degree C that pass, normally it stays around 40 degree C.
at this point its all guess and wonder. but it doesnt matter right now.
i took this head, a spare AEB (largeport) head, and my new ST Inconel exhaust valves down to the machine shop. my HONDA buddy got me right in and i pick up the newly built head in the AM.
it has ST springs/retainers, CAT cams 3652's, ST exhaust valves, OEM intakes, the new OEM lifters and no port work. the same build i would have ended up doing at a more leisurely time anyhow

52IT is nothing and will not blow your car up, @WF on a dyno with out fan up front my IT did hit 90C on a track they stay around 60C. It must be the head, because pics do not show any sing of detonation. And if that be happening another 3 cill be looking same.

Hope the machine shop can surface the head to a low RA, if you want a metal
head gasket to live with high boast it need to smooth.

so i built a new head today.
put in Supertech exhaust valves (Inconel), springs, and retainers.
put in the Cat 3652 cams. also the new lifters with them.
worked all day on reassembling the thing.
fired right up. with a loud ticking noise. i thought it could be the little 10mm nut that dropped and may have gone into the bellhousing. but i drove it up the road and back and the noise is still there. i have been sick all this week (what a vacation) so i cant really hear the greatest to try and pinpoint it. my wife, well she is female so it doesnt make noise to her i am sure.... LOL.
oil looks perfect.
cam timing is spot on.
dunno what to say now. its much to late now to do much more of anything.
i did give it a go, and i got it back together and running. but alas, Murphy has beaten me into submission yet once again.
i have half a mind to run it for a pass tomorrow anyhow. full throttle, not care the outcome. :bashtard: someone please :slap: me

i just dont want to oil the track down and ruin the fun for the other racers. that is selfish. i dont care the outcome of the motor at this point, just no need ruining other peoples fun.
but i did a lil test in the garage... and yes it does 4 wheel burnout
so to all out there pulling for me to get it together for the show, i really tried. and i am tired.... gonna rest. the car will go and be in the show promoters booth, as he put alot of effort into making it happen as well, with motor work (crank swaps) and stuff. i really do not even want to go because my thought is "no run, no fun". but i am committed to having the car there one way or another. and the family and i can kick back and actually enjoy a car show for once. :woowoo:

are you using hydraulic lifters, Some times new lifters take a while to pump up.

ya, hydro lifters. they are from the head that died, not very old at all.... when i did that new cam set, i also did the new lifters at the same time. so they have some use on them.....
drained oil, its greenish from the breakin additive. no sparkles.
i give up. totally drained.
its all slicked up and ready to go sit and look the biz, but not be the biz....

Aaron behing the oil filter housing (you need to remove it from the block) there is a little spring//plunger that controls oil pressure to the head, it's probably shut and not letting any oil to the head. when we blew the headgasket hard on the dyno like you did massive presure occured and jammed that plunger so when we fixed the hg it started right away but sounnded like a diesel/dry lifter but noise never went away, un jammedthat plunger problem solved. this was on a 06a block sure they all have it. not sure if that is the noise if it is i would check. or just remove valve cover crank it over with fuel pump off and see if oil make it;s way to the top if it does not then you have the problem i just told you. good luck
