we are a bunch of vultures, no? sick individuals who revel in other peoples misery, or misfortune.
ahhhh, the human spirit at its finest LOL.
i like looking at the next mans damage just as much as the next guy.... its just my "turn" in the spotlight

have no fear, BIG GUY, its ok over here.... this is just part of racing (i didnt yet but i will) and building stuff that is not "the norm"..... and i know it.

a bit late but mannnnn,
my hands are sticky
on the bright side you know what the problem is........
Its not like we're looking for the carnage....It just happens, I would have much rather seen your car ripping down the 1/4----which I'm sure we'll all get to see in the near future...
sorry to hear of the misfortune.....progress was going so amazingly fast for so long. I guess its just bound to happen kinda....

woah dude. Those are JE's right? The JE wrist pin uses a .120 wall wrist pin that is 2 inches long, and the Wiseco's use a .160 wall wrist pin that is 1.5". I had this idea of using a lighter piston in the wiseco with the lighter wrist pin of the JE, lathed down to 1.5"..
I figured that the Bigger wristpn wall was overkill, and unneeded weight. Guess I was wrong
That sucks. It reminds me of my last melt down, and it made me sick for a split second.

Damn, haven't seen a broken wrist pin in a long time. Put it in the trophy case.

That really blows.....you didn't happen to buy a set of 5 pistons seeing as you kind of hang with an old school Audi crowd? How is the cylinder wall? Do you think that the piston can be cleaned up enough to reuse if you can get the pin out? I wonder if the pin bore is still straight and not out of round. Hank just tried to get JE to sell him just one piston when he blew up his motor and they wouldn't have any part of it. We considered buying a set of 5 and selling off the 4 for a 2.0 build, but some of the carnage had got into a few of the other pistons as well. Sorry to hear, but it is after all only your test motor. :(

well, it is the motor i am testing out in the car, yes. but it actually has a home, in the rabbit.
Wiseco piston, and they sell singles.
i have half a mind to just buy new rods and pistons, bore it to 83.5mm (its 82mm now) and then run it as a complete new motor, which it would be at that point.
it will drive down the track this year, it BETTER...

My last motor I was using Ross/magnus with a small wall wrist pin 1.5. I ended up getting shadowing on my block because the wrist pin was flexing. I have now moved up to Arias pistons. They weigh a little more but have more meet around the wrist pin where its is needed. They also came with .220 wall wrist pin. After having every thing from a ross,JE,Wiseco and Arias in my hand. I will never go back to any thing but Arias.
Aaron Don't know if Arias makes a piston for your motor but you can take a look.

Very neat information there. That is a beefy wrist pin. What is the length of the Arias pins? I will note that the 1.5" wrist pins on the Wisecos show a lot more wear than the JE's and they have half the milage on them.
Interesting indeed. by chance do you have the weights of your pistons?

I can't remember off hand the length of the Arias pins. As for the weight. The Arias come in at 365grams and my old Ross/magnus was 345grams. I know I went up a little in weight but To me it was well worth it.
Here is a shitty pic of the difference in wrist pin Sorry its so shitty
Arias on the left Ross/magnus on the right.

Yeah, I guess so. Anyway they only list 8v and VR6 pistons in stock.

that is a Wiseco .160 wall wrist pin. at least it was. now its the new 2-pc design LOL. and Scat rod, wasted the bushing, put a little twist to it, and bent it even. so its fokked too.
to get the two pin halves out of the piston, we had to chuck it up in the vice, and take a drift and 4lb beater and hammer the things out....

motor is now completely gutted. spare block goes to DJM tomorrow, along with all the parts i have for it.
new IE rods arrive tomorrow. much thanks to Pete and Dave for the quick action here. they also are getting the new JE 83mm pistons here on saturday, so we can get this thing built ASAP.
20mm rifle drilled IE rods.
83mm non-stroker pistons, JE.
the new custom heavy duty wrist pins from JE that are tool-steel, and have tapered ends to help with weight and thicker center section to boost strength.
hopefully have it running again by next weekend.

unreal. Take some pictures of the wrist pins when you get them. I am curious.

UPDATE:
i took block apart tonight. seems i broke ALL of the wrist pins LOL.....
i think 45 psi boost spike @ 6k rpm had something to do with it, but who is to say for sure.

How did the crank fare?
Probably worth checking to see if its still straight.
Good luck getting it back together.

well, thats not nice to make me not sleep well tonight haha....
great, one more thing to check. FACK!!!!!
good thing i know locally there are some cranks around. and i am using a different block, and already have built a new head. so this will be an all new motor....
shit.

scat should be able to re-bush those rods.
good to know those rods will take 45psi!!

Man, where did those pins split with relation to the rod journal and piston? That's pretty impressive to have destroyed all four of them.

the one that was broken the worst is twisted and bent a little. but not very bad at all. takes some study to see it.
but yes, they held pretty damned good i have to say....
