In my work, refinery construction/maintenance, this mixture is viewed as a poor man's substitute for proper Aerokroil. But... aside from the noxious chemical smell, I like it better. It's cheap and easy to obtain. And due to the high surface tension, you can spray it on a vertical bolt and it doesn't immediately drip off the way most penetrant oils will.

At any rate, keep some around for general usage at a later date. You'll be surprised how much better it works than your garden variety WD40 or PB Blaster to loosen seized bolts.

I've held the an H1C in my hand by the compressor housing and whacked the cast snail with a 3lbs hammer. Comes right off. I whack a few times and check for separation. Once I see some, I hover it no more than an inch off the bench.

You said you hear metal. Are you sure it's not the wastegate puck jingling?

Heat heat and more heat. Sometimes it's all that works. You have to get the hot side to expand enough to release.

Feeling pretty sub-manly right now. 5 days of hammering the shit out of this turbine housing. Tried EVERYTHING including heating housing then spraying chra with 02 to cool it fastly. Hasn't moved for d#ck. I'm handing it off to someone with an oxy acetaline torch now
:wah:

The youtube videos show people doing that stuff without even trying lol. Drives me crazy seeing it! It's not internally gated. I'm not familiar with the entire assembly so that's why I'm curious and definately would like to see what it is personally.
Thanks guys. Perhaps some Aerokroil investing is in my future :)
Also if I can get that monstrosity of a c clip back in, I will try the hold and whack method hah
Jim that's what makes me suspect my MAP torch isn't hot enough. Nothing is glowing over here

I had a heat gun going on the inside and a map torch on the outside for about 10 minutes before it budged. With a big hammer.

A stock HX35 has an internal gate... Unless they came on anything else other than Cummins.

Interestingly enough it has a v band turbine housing only. I prefer external WG's for their visual appeal. That's basically it lol. No I'm wondering what it came off of. The tag on the compressor housing led to a Cummins truck but that would happen even with the hotside being changed. Good point. I saw that on Chris's pics too.

I'm about to soak the turbo in b12 Chem tool over night unless that's a horrible idea. Will do the turbine housing on the inside and outside for the 360° approach

Jesus Christ it took 2 or 3 hrs with the heat gun and torch to free this bastard. Oh and a week of trying

For the curious few:
Hotside reads... dam I can't even read it lol

Look inside the volutes to verify the hotside size.

Best thing to soak chra and rest of stuff in before rebuilding? Don't want to use diesel because of the residue it leaves after

The look of it all didn't look extra-ordinary. I just cleaned everything up gently with carb and foaming cleaner. Everything looked in good shape overall. I'll begin the rebuild tomorrow using engine assembly lube

Doesn't look like my inch pound torque wrench will click on the left direction. What now. Call machine shops to use theirs?

What like use a digital scale and a 1 ft socket wrench and, while standing on a digital scale, crank until my body weight increases by 10 lbs (actualy 10.33 lbs)? If there's a better way I'm down with it

I also have a bar type TW I could use but that seems like a patient 2 person jobber. I bet the neighboring mechanic shop has a proper TW and they usually let me borrow tools

You would use a regular wrench and apply a known weight to it at a known length (and multiply the two). Of course, the weight of the wrench becomes significant in this too for small torque values like this. It can be done fairly accurately that way though.

This thing is tight like a tiger now. The other shop down the street says they might have a wrench that clicks left I can use. The guys that put my clutch in twice lol.

Ok I got ya. So I'd attempt 10 lbs of force at 1 ft on a wrench. Or at least some combination that multiplies out to ~10 ft#s
Thanks. If the TW falls though I'll grab a 10 lb barbell and start there

Borrowed this really dope snap-on from waaaaaay back. Really good friend coworker at the funeral home lol. Ooooh, blue anodized! This will do the trick :)

Its only fitting that I used this TW. Guy said he "set many a rack on the Cummins trucks with it."
Worked great for the job but I had to try like 6 times of torqueing the nut to get my initial marks aligned. I know they're all separately balanced pieces but I hate taking chances on things like this that take up many hours of my life from start to finish. Longevity was the starting goal and I could control that by doing the rebuild myself, if at all.

Darn right. Don't think it would be so big in the Cummins sector otherwise! That older fella says he may sell me that TW some day. Real nice guy. He's in his 80's and he does remocall for the funeral home which occasionally requires us to go pick up 3 to 500 lb people by ourselves. This job is probably the only thing keeping him young lol.

BTW blipshift just released a new classic audi shirt!
