I have been a long time reader of this thread, and I must say... this is all so amazing, you are seriously patient and talented!
Derek and 4000/Coupe GT folks... you remember this lip (chip spoiler)?

You guys ever think of finding one for your car? [/img]

i've been trying to get in touch with someone who can make us CF copies of that chin spoiler. everyone flakes out. so, if anyone knows a reputable CF company or guy in a shed, lemme know!

I would be fine with a glass copy. Unless it's a full on race application, I think CF is gaudy.

i don't think real CF is gaudy... i think faux CF is stupid. you can't have a raw finish FG, it has to be body color... so, CF sounds good to me, and i think it will look nice with the zermatt color tone wise. the other thing i want to make with CF is replicate the Blau trunk spoiler extension i have... just some nice touches

There is a gent with a Ur-Q, Phil, with a modded MK2 VW spoiler that looks FANTASTIC on it, looks factory.

Ya. if anyone has one I could probably make a couple here at school. Though it'd have to be quick since I graduate June 13th. And I couldn't guarantee a PERFECT finish... but I can always try.

alrighty.... time for a new exhaust

i've been planning this one out for a long time now, and collected all the pieces i needed.... except a second spool of SS mig wire

i made huge strides on my exhaust today, yesterday, and back on monday. i started this back in february, but have been MIA for a while with traveling and work... but alas, it is *almost* complete. i have about 30 minutes more welding/finalizing and then she can be bolted up in place for good.
the idea of this exhaust is to use different pipe sizes for #1. flow, #2. hopefully confuse the exhaust pulses into not resonating like a big jerk so that i can enjoy the lower cruising rpms with these URQ gears. so far, it looks like a winner.... i ran it with the one remaining joint to be welded up butted up tight, and there's plenty of noise at the tips, but inside the car is pretty quiet through the rev range.... putting a load on it will tell for sure, but it's definitely quieter inside than my old 20vt was with a straight 3" pipe, center resonator, and rear muffler....
this one consists of... ready for it? downpipe - 3" flexpipe - 3" resonator - splitting down into dual 2.5" under the middle of the car for clearance and dividing the pulses - then into dual 2.75" pipes with same size resonators - into single 3" up and over the rear axle - divided again into dual 2.75" through two more resonators - one side exits in a 3", the other a 2.75" - they merge and then split at the very end for the tips... which are B6 S4 tips i got of an exhaust i won on ebay for $20

i wanted the vacuum operated valves from the ends, but they were too small for my likes... so i said screw it and went all out to try this experimental exhaust.
i made a video, but unfortunately the pipe slid back enough to reveal the "leak" that makes it sound like a tractor again. i'll be welding this up as soon as i can and get a final product sound clip for ya'll 8)
and now, for a pic buffet that i've been waiting so long to put up

so this is how it starts... a pile of pipes and resonators..

dual 2.5" welded together with SS angle brackets to space them evenly..

i made all the hangers out of 1/4" SS rod...

sometimes ya gotta make due with whatcha got

added the second routing in here...

mid section...

tips 8)

video is uploading at the moment, i'll update in a few when it's ready :

Nice Derek!! I like it and I'll venture to guess that it does pretty well in both performance and sound quality. I'm still wondering if you were showing off the exhaust or the nice no rust near perfect underside of the car. Impressive.
