ive always been amazed by this car, how much has it cost you so far?

Much like any car can cost you in maintenance its hard to say how much of the stuff I've put on the car is all part of the conversion or just upgrades/maintenance. EG: I didn't have to swap out the intercooler but I did.
But to answer your question its somewhere in the 30k range including the purchase price of the car.

wow really? to be honest i would have figured it would have been more.
i can imagine the time spent on it more than compensates for that haha

yeah, obviously thats all my own labor. So when the obvious "whats it worth" question comes up, I'm not sure what the correct answer to that would be.
I'm curious. Chime in (notoriously cheap ass motorgeeks

): "Whats it worth"?

simple answer to "whats it worth". :stupid:
Yes Marc the chime in... "I'll give you 10,000 for it!"
(the cheap ass motorgeeks)
The real answer, priceless.

Well if you kept track of the hours worked on it and the $ figure then it should be pretty easy to work out how much it's worth.
Hours worked x how much you get paid an hour + Actual expenses = value of the car.
Now of course this doesn't take into account other tangible or intangible costs. EG. Did your wife divorce you because of this project ?(intangible) If so how much did that cost you (tangible) when she did?
Those kinda things factor in there too.

:-D
BTW I can't wait to hear this baby run. Oh yeah!

Is it done yet?!?

What it cost in $$ and time unfortunatley has nothing to do with what its worth...It's worth is all in the mind of the potential buyer as we all know.
Is it worth $50K to a buyer? $75K, $100K? who knows. I can tell you of many people who have spent $50-150K on non street legal track cars that make less power.
I personally think its awesome and is emotionally priceless to you Mark, Right up to the point that a buyer appears and you have a new project you want to fund

Cant wait to beat the snot out of it on the track

and then lap you in the DTM+ (But thats at least a year away so you cannot sell it until then)

Nice to see that intercooler on there Marc. I've got the same one. I'm not sure where my TTV8 project would be without your project thread
By the way, how do you like those turbo's? I'm using those as well. I just added some pics to the project page the other day.

Is the 6 speed in yet?!?

Any chance youll be at limerock on july4th or 5th?

Adam: turbos are a good budget choice, obviously the ultimate would be something in the Garett GT line but I didn't want to get that spendy. Based on my dyno plot the 3.6 was unable to push the turbos to the limit, the boost curve kept rising to redline despite the wastegates being forced closed.
Peter: 6 speed has been in for a while, just not one that works properly :( The current 6 speed in the car came off ebay and has major internal issues, grinding gears, missing syncros, etc.
Chabaso: No, I wasn't planning on being at limerock but I will be at NHMS on the 8th.

So Marc I am reading your thread over to get an idea of the exact spec that the new tranny has.
I am just trying to compare you gain and lose.
new vs. old
Cheers,
Corey

That is pretty cool, going to be quite the drop from 4th to 5th! What was the end cost to your door? Is the tranny built to any HP/tq level?
Posted: Fri Jun 20, 2008 8:35 am
by Marc
The drop from 4th to 5th is a consequence of wanting maximum acceleration out of 4th, figuring in a lot of tracks I run on 120mph should be plenty, negating the need for the shift to 5th. Even so, shifting to 5th at 7k puts me at about 4500 rpm which is just after the torque peak on my motor anyway

end cost was $2300 delivered. Gears are cryo'd, all syncros are new as is the main shaft and many of the gear sets. No specific HP spec on it, I guess that would be a question for Scott but its got a warranty

I hope you don't mind, since I'm swapping trannies as well I am making an excel spread sheet like yours.
Just to confirm, 25.4 in your equation is the outside diameter of your tires?
Posted: Fri Jun 20, 2008 9:27 am
by Marc
25.4 is a conversion from metric to SAE (25.4mm per inch)

by WRC
Sure is, I obviously didn't follow the units in the formula. Feel free to :bashtard:
It threw me, since a 255/40-17 depending on manufacturer could be an OD of 25.4".

You had to come up with the core didn't you?

No. I think thats his normal policy but I think he'll take non-wide 01E trannies as well, eg all the early //S car trannies. Due to some supply problems he waived the return for me as well as paid for delivery
