you bet! going to either cut the lower grill out too or paint it black so that it doesn't stand out like it does now..... I also want to get a V8 rear bumper mounted up to balance the skirting front to back and I'll paint the lower part of that as well. Lots to be done!

And yea, it's definitely staying pearl white!

And it makes me giddy seeing pictures of my car that I didn't take for once - thanks for the link! :D

Hawt Casey!! I have always loved the look of the V8 bump with the 200 headlights/grille..
Only thing I would change is cut off that tow hook..If you really want one retrofit the screw-in type from the V8..
And I am trying to come up with a side-skirt solution--the rockers on a V8 are deeper to match the deeper bumpers, and once you hang them on 1 two hun' the side view becomes awkward...

I have another q? WHY did Audi put those little "tits" on the bottom of the molding :? :frustrated: I am going to grind mine off(since I have many sets of them) to make it sit flush on top of the bumps..

I was thinking about painting this tow hook black and removing the lower grill to make my own, but I would certainly prefer the screw-in type hook. As for side skirts, the car will be hurting for some especially if I get the rear bumper on there too.

just because they wanted them to get stuck on the V8 bumper if anyone tried to do the swap :P

man. that's dirt cheap, go for it! and yea, pick that stuff up too! Also pick up the plugs for the fogs and signals in the bumper for a cleaner install

Quick update - bumper brackets showed up before lunch today so I checked them quick - won't be a bolt up jobbie, so stay tuned for some mish-mash of V8 and 200 bumper brackets put together

And here comes a raise in v8 bumper prices :) But does anyone know how the bumper would match up with non flared typ 44s? (aka us poor 20vt folks)

we'll see what happens with the home-made bracketry (new word) but the edges of the bumper can be pulled all the way in so that it's uniform with the chrome trim by the wheel well

all pictures thus far are w/o the sides of the bumper attached in any way

Yes the bottom of the V8 fenders differs from the 200's in a way that impedes the use of the V8 side brackets..

Made some progress with fender brackets. A quick trial of the V8 bracket made it clear that it could not be used as it was. The first thing that made sense to me was to cut the bracket in half, so out came the saws-all. Here's the 200 vs V8 bumper mounting types.

to mount these half brackets I slid them onto the bumper, put the bumper on the car and marked with painters tape where the mount was located. I also looked between the chrome trim with a flashlight to get an idea as to where the mount was to go vertically.

Once I had idea of where it needed to go, I marked a line above the mount where I thought was the correct location and then put the mount and bumper back on the car to check the mount's position relative to the mark I made.

When I was confident in the location, I drilled 2 7/64"pilot holes for some sheet metal screws and attached the brackets.

The following pics show the fitment.

I then spent a stupid amount of time trying to bolt the bumper onto the car with no success. I was able to drill all 6 holes in the struts in just the wrong spot so that none of them line up :frustrated: this again helps me with the clean install though because I'll finally look into putting the V8 strut end on the 200 strut which may allow me to have the bumper in the right spot and still have functioning struts.

If all else fails, I'll break out the steel and make some rigid struts. At some point I'll start looking into ways of getting the corners of the bumper to pull in, perhaps using the existing slots near the top corners of the bumper. Stay tuned....

Just sexy.

Nearly complete on this project! Today I decided to scrap the V8 bumper struts since everything about making them fit was ghetto at best. I decided with the welcomed influence of the 'geek community to make some struts out of the 200 and V8 pieces. Here's what we have:

First I cut off the mounting brackets on the 200 struts and cleaned them up
Image
Image

Next up was cutting the V8 struts. The 200 struts as they stand are too short to just weld the V8 bracket up. Before taking the V8 struts and bumper off of the car, I measured the distance between the frame rail and the end of the V8 bracket. I found that I needed 5/8" additional strut added onto the 200 strut, so I made my cut with 5/8" strut still attached.
Image

Here's the result - no welder here, so I'll have to do it at work tomorrow unless there's someone in the Utica, NY area that can help 8)
Image

Till then, I need to lengthen the turn signal wires so that they reach their new location. Once the struts are welded up, I should be good to go other than pulling the corners by the wheel well inward for a better finished product.

Personally, to make it flow better, I'd be inclined to use V8 fenders, and make the angle match the 200 headlamps, even if it means grafting the 200 fender tips to the V8 ones.

At least, the V8 fender flares will be a 100% match for the bumper then...
