Dave,

What cold side housing is that? My Volvo K24's cold side housing has the bypass valve in it.

Actually, I removed it, had Hank weld it up, and I cut and blended the rest. sanded it then polished it. I did it all by hand.

I learned it by porting my own heads. I have to admit, it does look like it came that way and looks damn good.

Well school is out now and my 50 hour weeks start immediately on Monday again. I should be able to get the A/C all done, "THE TURBO", and other minor things within a month or two.

Made a pressure bleeder yesterday as my clutch failed on Tuesday coming home from work. Spent $15 on my own setup. Pics to follow

it seems to work but for some reason I keep getting air in the clutch system. After I bleed it, itll be fine for about 15 miles of driving and then it goes to the floor again. Theres still enough pressure to shift the car but its getting quite annoying. Guess I never got the air out in the first place

On another note, finally remembered to pay for my URq A/C bracket and clutch assembly. I'm gonna be the only 4000 turbo quattro with A/C at BBQ beotches!!!!

While you are enjoying the Nevada heat...I'll be eating my In-n-Out burger in an ice box!

Best way I've found to do the clutch (And its amazing) is this:

Friend under car
You at the pedals

Pump clutch pedal 5-10 times hold pedal to floor
Helper opens bleeder (air and fluid come barfing out)
Helper closes bleeder
Pull Clutch pedal from the floor start pumping 5-10 times.

You really have to be pumping it to build pressure enough to have the air be the first thing to go flying out.

You can also do this by yourself with patience and a 2x4 (ask me how I know)

This. Also, some clutch master/slave cylinders are a bitch, I went through 3 pints of fluid bleeding the clutch on my Camaro. It was a new master and slave btw. I really thought something was wrong, and I talked to a local shop and when I mentioned it, he said "yeah, buy a few more bottles of fluid and clear out an afternoon". He wasn't kidding.

My CQ bled out pretty quick though, and all of the VW's that I have done (which I think might use the same slave cylinder) aren't too bad either.

Ran another 13.6 last night. The car is pretty consistant it seems.

I think my clutch master and/or slave is just about dead. Bled the living crap out of the system. Got tons of air out and finally a steady stream of fluid. What's weird is that after I opened and closed the bleed valve, my buddy would draw the pedal back up and it would go straight to the floor again. It would NOT draw fluid to save its life. I had to pressurize it to get fluid in the cylinders. Then it felt like a brand new clutch all of last night and then got weaker, and weaker, and finally dead this morning.

Ya, either the master or slave is bleeding off. :/ If you replace to master, bet sure to bench bleed that sucker. It makes life a LOT easier.

On my 924S years ago, a buddy and I spent probably an hour bleeding the clutch slave (in single digit temps and snow) and it wasn't getting any better. Ran to Autozone and rented a vacuum bleeder and it was working great within 10 minutes.

I have replaced WELL over a thousand clutches in my time wrenching. the absolute worst clutch to bleed is a ford ranger, without a doubt. what a POS! the trans is angled downward which angles the air forward. the bleeder is at the rear. You have had to jack the rear so rediculessly high to bleed, its retarded. It has to be the dumbest design I have ever seen. thanks mazda/ford!

I never power bled the clutch on my old 4ktq. Just the normal open bleeder, hold pedal down, close bleeder trick. Worked perfectly the few times I ever had to do it.

I turned wrenches for 18 years. All the way up to 2009, then I got the "SHAFT." I work for a govt contractor now. I test electronic circuit boards after they are populated and soldered looking for issues needing attention. I must say, the difference between commercial electronics and military quality is pretty big. I get paid pretty well for what I do, but not as much as I did wrenching. soon I will though. Im not far off. plus, I can do a little side work for a little extra cash. I didn't want to wrench all my life anyway. It was a good time to move on.

Sorry been away due to stupidity over the weekend.

While I was changing the clutch slave on Saturday, I managed to shoot DOT 4 brake fluid into my left eye. Direct hit.

So as of right now, the car is still torn apart, my left eye is still blurry and swollen, and I'm driving my pickup. Doctor says I have some minor erosion underneath my pupil but everything should heal up fine. :wah:

This car keeps trying to burn me, kill me, blind me, and just friggen maim me :punch:

Cars like this are a selfish, greedy, vindictive mistress on the verge of flipping out. We all have our share of battle wounds when it comes to cars. (except kuma, he has the real deal) I have scars all over my hands, and have breathed in and absorbed enough chemicals to die of cancer sometime in the future. But, its still as addictive as crack and there is no 12 step program for it.....yet.

My name is Dave and I'm an addict.

I have done more stupid shit - Car paint directly in the eye in a barn 100 miles from home and 1 mile away from any other house with a dead cell phone and no car come to mind.

Anyway....... Hope the eye heals up I almost dropped a 19mm wrench directly into my own today - Good to know I can still catch quickly!

And shit Mannnnn get off the 20v hahaha this thing is ripping harder than most 20v's around here. This car fucking hooks up from a dig. I love 016's ratios... :hide:

Jared,

Have you done any tuning of the CIS yet (adjusting control pressure) to even out your AFR's?

When I cranked up system pressure I noticed my engine runs pig rich until the metering plate tops out then it starts to lean out some but there is no lack of fuel with 17 psi boost. I increased the control pressure and can now get a fairly steady 11.5 afr all the way to redline. I'm just saying if you haven't done this yet you could probably shave off another 10th or two.

Safety glasses. I wear them every time I work on anything anymore, I have had way too many close calls doing stuff that normally isn't an eye hazard. If i am grinding, I double up and use glasses and a full face shield. Better to be safe than be blind in one eye. :P
