Jeff, i'm pretty sure he's adjusted it by shimming something. He mentioned he had it shimmed too much and so he dialed it back a little. I think without a bigger turbo and some water/meth injection hes about as fast as it will go for now.

Brendan, i too wear glasses whenever doing something that involes flying metal. It just makes me too nervous to not wear them.

I always wear safety glasses when fabricating, grinding, porting, etc. but now Ill wear them pretty mich all the time lol.

Jeff, all Ive done is shim the fuel distributor, relay the pump, and flow match the injectors. While flow matching, I increased the output of ALL injectors just a tad.

Unfortunately the only wideband I have is currently on my pickup. When I get the money, an LC1 will be installed in the car. Before I go balls to the wall on performance this summer, I have other bills to take care of first

As far as racing and times go, I think 13.5 will be the fastest it will go in its current setup if I am PERFECT with the shifting. I hate sticks so I think 13.6 is a pretty respectable time. The cam is also 4 degrees advanced so that has something to do with it as well. I know I could probably shave off a couple 10ths if I make the cam straight up or a couple degrees retarded.

On another note, I think I'm going to start making an S1 hood.....its gonna be sweet

Just gotta find a donor 4kq hood

A/C, huh? 8-)

What do you have in mind for an S1 hood?

More frustration...

STarted a couple days ago but been getting abnormal low vacuum readings at idle and while cruising. Has a weird bucking/vibration when cruising almost like a shaking.

It pulls about 5" at idle and rapidly fluctuates between 5-6" at idle. Most signs are pointing towards the ignition system. ECM throws knock code after some shaking and hesitating while cruising.

I'm doing compression test, spark plug checks, etc tonight. I'm wondering if a bad lifter is to blame as well.....IDK

Maybe look at the vacuum line to the ecu?

Just out of curiosity how much idle vacuum are you normally pulling with the cam?

normal vacuum is about 10-11". I hooked up an external good quality gauge to confirm as the autometer one inside doesnt show the fine fluctuations. Idle starts to shake a little once vacuum dips below 5"

well found my answer....

2 broken lifters. 1 catastrophic. Will post pictures later but for now a lobe is damaged on the cam, valve stem is messed up, upper retainer is screwed up, keepers are broken, and yet somehow I didnt drop a valve....

took a compression test and got 125-125-125-125-100.

What is weird is that the cylinders with broken lifters and the busted valve had 125 compression. I put oil in the 5th cylinder but no change. Will know more tonight

oye...i know why 5th has low compression. Will post pictures this weekend. Good news is only one valve needs to be replaced

Ok camshaft has been sent off to delta for repair. While it is there, Im thinking of having them do a regrind. The current cam specs are 224/224 @ .050" with .432" lift. Im considering regrinding it to a 228/228 with .445" lift or a 234/234 with .474" lift. Either one will net more power especially on the top end

A while back I found this on Ben Swann's website:
http://www.gtquattro.com/FAQ.html
What you really want is a helper cam with a different intake duration than exhaust. I had tried two cams one 274i/264e with .442 lift ( think - have to check my specs) This thing was outrageaous, but a little lumpy at idle and tended to blow oil through the brand new seals due to the high lift - probably would not have had the problem with new valves, but I'd doubt you want to install new valves or have the ridge ground out of yours - talkinghead work here. I sold that cam to a guy who was pulling 10's drag racing with an MC-1 in a quantum syncro - he loved it. But it was too aggressive for my general street application.

The second cam was a toned down version of the first. 264i/254e with about a .420 lift - again need to check my spec. sheet. This cam was perfect. Nice idle but the engine revved reight out to 7 grand in a heartbeat. The 5ktq avant would do easy 6.5 sec 0-60 with boost at 16 PSI using QLCC chip. This is probably the combo you'ld want to shoot for.

I should mention those duration numbers are @ .050". Bens specs appear to be advertised duration which would translate to a 234/224 @ .050", which is still really healthy. Thats actually really nice to know about someone else running a big cam like that. Perhaps its time for a little more cam in preperation for......THE VOLVO 7400 TURBO!!!!! Dun dun dun......

Quite fiddle EFFING farting around with it and buy the damn turbo and VEMS already. I am sick of this BS anticipation, and all for what? You blowing up your car .... again... which once again se0st back the damn turbo.

Throw VEMS and a bigger turbo on it and he'll break something head related.
For like the 15th time....

He cant have my "The Turbo" till I take it off my car. Im waiting to collect all the parts until I tear into it. I am waiting on a couple coated bearings to complete the order and I can get started after that. Since he doesnt have the cash just yet, it seems moot at this time anyway. I will likely be getting started by the end of this month, except I may be on the prowl for a new house to supplement my condo, and I will be going down to florida for the week of the 4th for vaca. its busy time. Be patient Ben, it will happen soon enough. :police:

Omg someone tell me what retainers these are. They are black and are pretty much flat up top. They dont have the normal angle like factory! The grooves for the valve springs on the retainer also go deeper
