lol.... I have a N/A 20v head in a garage that has a Blausport cam in it.... are those worth a damn?

Yes they are to the N/A crowd. If its a 272/272, it is not a good turbo cam due to the overlap

Good to hear your car is back together again. Did you decide to have the cam reground with a different profile? What specs did you decide on? CATCAMS 1002217 looks interesting (http://www.catcams.com). I noticed it has a much wider exhaust lobe center angle than stock (120 degrees vs 112 degrees for MC1 or 116 degrees for MC2). This probably helps out the idle quite a bit.

Even on a ported head with a big turbo for topend? Hmm.... is there a discussion that was had - (Yes I understand overlap)

If it was in combination with a modern day turbo setup it would be ok. Most modern turbo setup have a bit of overlap because back pressure has been greatly reduced along with increased turbo efficiency. With an 80's technology turbo, it is not a good combination and will cause reverberation back into the combustion chamber.

As far as the specs go, I'm waiting on my buddy to send me his 'new' old stock mechanical lifter 20vt cam meant for a URq. I'm going to have it reground to a 234/228 with .460" lift.

"THE CAM" is currently under repair at Delta in Tacoma, WA atm. They were not able to regrind it to a different spec. They told me if they welded onto it, the welds would break and come apart over time. They instructed me to send them a mechanical cam for the specs I want

I have however run into a problem with the car. It pulls very well with the MC2 cam up until about 4800 RPM where it decides to start misfiring and having a HUGE lack of power while under boost and a load. Up until that point it has NO problems with full boost. Really weird. I'm wondering if it's my sparkplugs or if it's a fueling issue.

I'm still actually considering going with a totally radical grind like their last camshaft profile (102219). I figure since I'm going VEMS and this car will soon be retired to "Toy Status", it may justify the huge cam. I dont know though. We'll see what happens. I'm waiting on my buddy to send me his Mechanical camshaft so I can send it out.

I'm sure you know this but just remember you have to be aware of clearances with a cam like that. Piston to valve clearance, lobe to head casting clearance, coil bind clearance, keeper to valve guide, etc... Cat says the 217 cam says it will work with stock components, negative for the 219.

WEIRD. It only seems to have this misfire/lack of power at 4700+ when the motor is warm. Sound like a boost leak?

Did you do another comp test after putting it together this time?

I did one last night. And all I can say is DAMN. I was 120 on lowest and 130 on highest. I have excellent compression.

Im doing the 'RogViler' smoke test on my lunch. Got cheap ass cigars and an air hose to pressurize.

Turns out injector #3 o-ring is blown. Replacing tomorrow. Also, during my smoke test, smoke came out of the throttle plate shaft. Anyone ever have experience fixing that? EKTA doesnt give me a breakdown of the throttle body

So 2nd gear synchro has just about gone out. I can now put the shifter into the gate without a clutch in any gear and it will grind. Even with the clutch disengaged, it will still grind when shifting into gear.

Anyone know where I can buy a rebuild kit for the 016 trans? Or would I be better off just throwing an 01e in there?

I think I'll try and fix my speedometer today. Getting tired of not having cruise control. Trying to save up money for Daves turbo and the A/C compressor

"THE CAM" has arrived from delta and has been repaired. Throwing it in over the weekend or tonight......

Wow what horrible shitty luck. I come back to my garage to install my first prototype mount and to measure and finalize dimensions right? Well after I was done with that the plugs got fouled up because apparently my heatshrink came off on the Cold start valve ground wire.....

so changed out spark plugs. Then I go to take a quick ride to see how the car felt. In the quarter mile I drove the car, it felt awesome with the ABS plastic I'm using as a mockup for the poly. Absolutely 0 drivetrain movement....then one of the rear tires exploded.......lovely

True. another aggravating problem I have been having is the car will smoke after boost. it will not smoke while cruising. I think the turbo oil seals are going bad. I guess it's time for Dave's Volvo k 24.

What color smoke? Could it be unburned fuel perhaps?

It sure looks blue to me. It could be white but theres definitly blue in there. I thought it was fuel at first and it might be. Car loses all power after 5300 and wont rev past 6000. Feels like a fancy rev limiter. Even with THE CAM

My turbo blew smoke out the exhaust under vacuum when it was shot. The other reasons for smoking I can think of would be lack of crank case venting.
The other item I have mentioned to you many times is to get a A/F gauge in there.
What tires are you running?

I know I know. I have 5 people yelling at me to get the A/F gauge in there. I am running 205/60/15 BFG advantage tires. I want to stuff 225/50/15s or 225/40-45/15 in there now.

Yeah agreed. Its nof the width, its how tall the tires are. Kinda why I want to put a widebody setup on it
