Hey Marc... Are your turbochargers are supported from beneath by braces or just by the manifolds? I can't remember how you have it configured.

I haven't had any more problems with blowing up serp belts but I would like to get rid of the top roller. In theory all I should need is a straight shot between the crank pulley and the alternator with some sort of spring loaded tension roller pushing in the back side of the belt to keep it tensioned, essentially eliminating the pulley that used to be used for the viscous fan.

just the manifolds. They are so short I really dont think bracing is necessary.

a4kquattro wrote:yeah, when you track high HP turbos the heat and vibration plays hell on the fasteners. I used high temp loctite on the fasteners, in this case it was the studs securing the turbo to the manifold that started to back out (the nuts were still securely in place). next step is some nice mechanical locking tabs I seem to recall seeing in the 034 motorsport catalog ;)

Definitely. I had to use the locking tabs on mine, as it was the only way to keep the hardware tight. It would only take a couple sessions and it would be loose, and the gasket would be burned out.

engine is out, car is pushed outside so I can keep the doors closed and swap some of the custom parts off the 3.6 onto the 4.2. Parts I will be swapping include:

oil pan (clearanced for the subframe)
crank pulley (60-2)
t-belt covers (powdercoated)
valve covers (powdercoated)
exhaust manifolds/turbos (duh)

I'll need to drill some holes in the 4.2 block while I've got the pan off for the turbo drains as well as some new provisions for catch can drain back...

Holy hell, that motor is dead sexy. I've got to say, that's pretty sharp.
So, I'm really tired right now, but I'll read through this at a later time.
What's the status? Getting it ready to go in and all? Does it run?
feel free to :bashtard: me later.

Coupe is still a pig, 400whp takes care of that nicely.

I'm hoping for 500whp on pump with the 4.2, possibly 600 on E85 :-D

put the engine up on a stand tonight:

pulled the lower and upper oil pans, since those will be swapped onto the 4.2

next up is to lift the 4.2 off the ground and pull the upper and lower pans, drill the oil return lines into the engine block, as well as a yet to be determined catch can drain back hole.

man alive there are a lot of oil pan bolts on these things.

At least this time I don't have to see it in person, although right now I can't talk my garage is a war zone with absolutely no free space to work. :(

Good to see you back at it!

I spent 16+ hours straightening up my huge garage mess this weekend... parting cars a very messy proposition and another incoming orphan soon... lots of energy and did not touch a car.

life has been busy lately.

Closing on my house the 16th of this month (fingers crossed). I did manage to sneak out to the garage tonight to tighten the oil pan bolts for the swapped mid and lower oil pans (all eleventy billion of them).

Next up is R&Ring the waterpump and idler rollers and installing some new seals, swapping over the powdercoated timing belt rear cover plates for the heads, then install the t-belt..
