So...you guys will be as devastated as I am (and Jeff). I will do a full write up on the whole story soon, but there was a mechanical failure between the Tommis billet cam gear and the billet CAT Cams 1002305's. Long story short, I've got a bunch of bent intake valves and some minor marks on my pistons.

Long story found by Jeff's investigation:

The front interior nose face of the Cat billet cams is .009 taller (longer) than a factory cam. A Cat cast version of the same 2305 cam is only .003 taller than factory. The old style Tommi's cam pulley will tolerate any of these noses, as will other cam gears of similar design. The old style Tommi's cam pulley will tolerate any of these noses, as will other cam gears of similar design.

Old style Tommis (good clamp between back of gear and front of cam):

New style Tommis on stock cam (mediocre clamp):

New style Tommis on Cat Billet Camshaft (no step to apply clamp to the back of the gear relying on only the key):

I hope to have it back up and running soon.

Major bummer dude.

Hate to ask, but do you have to take the hit for this, or is CAT and/or Tommis going to ante up?

At this point I'm not sure, Jeff is working sorting all of that out.

I just want it running again. :drive:

Godspeed and good luck.

Exactly why I had to share the unfortunate news. Plus I know people will be looking for more hooning videos and now they will know why they don't exist.

Noooooooooooooooooooo. I actually feel heartbroken…… I'm glad you got that one "break in" run that we would all would love as our optimal run.

In terms of business no reason why FRP wouldn't help nick out 100%, from everything read here they were the real advisor and project manager of the entire "Crate" motor, if they recommended this specific cam gear it's part of the project.

I will digress on that point, since it seems like this will only be moving forward at a rapid pace anyway.

I'm glad I got 2 hours of fun out tuning it too! Too bad I wasn't driving until about 3 mins before it broke. Luckily for my buddy Chris who was driving all night, it broke on me, not him lol.

Jeff will take good care of me, there is no question about that. He was more devastated than I.

Head is already in route to FRP! Back in action asap :)
