timing belt is on, cams all timed up. went to go tighten the cam caps and used the wrong spec. *snap*. !#$%$!^!^$%#$! :curses: :curses:
much more :curses: :curses: later and I managed to extract the broken stud, but I'm going to replace all the cam cap studs on the one cam I was tightening down as I'm sure I started to yield the other studs on that one. 'luckily' I only had started to tighten a few of them to the wrong spec. Sigh.

:( stupid cam caps and studs. you'd think they would be just fine with the rediculously low torque put on them.... shoot, we yank on and over tighten 8mm bolt shanks everywhere else on the cars and yet those hold up for years of abuse

got the replacement studs finally, $6.62 each ($8.27 list!) :-o
manifolds are bolted up and passenger side turbo torqued down with lock tabs engaged on the studs. the drivers side turbo will be installed once the engine is bolted up. I need to get some more turbo studs though, I ordered some but they never came in :(
working on getting a lift for my new garage but I will still get this car together so I dont have to tow it to my new house. Getting there..

:woowoo: I know you have a full plate now!
I got the last wheel bearing pressed in for your old project... assembed and sort of installed the strut then played with the new pressure washer for about 5 hours!

topic changed because the engine is in and it runs

Still some work to do though

One very not so nice surprise...when went to go fill the car up with coolant it started pissing out of seemingly everywhere. A little digging and discovered that my braided stainless lines must have rotted out

applying air pressure to them and bubbles were coming out of the middle of the lines and the fittings like one of those goddamn lawn sprinkler hoses. I'll cut one of the hoses open to see what happened.

for now I'm just going to run the turbos oil cooled with caps over the t's I built on the water pipe to feed the water jackets. no time to dick with it since I have a long drive coming up with the car on monday!

Most turbos designed for water cooling won't be real happy with dry water jackets. They aren't designed to allow the oil to do all the cooling and you might seize them up or do other damage.
It's a bummer but true... I hope you don't cook your turbos :tard:

Yet another reason to not run stainless braid covered lines...Sorry to hear that Marc!! No chance of getting plain old rubber lines with barbed fittings from a FLAPS or tractor store or anything? Although it looks like you used AN hose ends, so possibly not.

That's now right!! It hasn't been sitting that long you wouldn't think.

congrats on getting the motor in ad running Mark!
Sorry to hear about the braided lines, thats really weird. I agree with Brad though, you'll likely cook the turbos with no water in em, can you hack something together with copper etc?
Can't wait for a report on the change from the PT, I really think it should be significant.
Good luck with the drive.

What brand s.s. lines are they? They should not rot out in only a couple years, especially not when used for coolant.

How long have they been in there? if its less than... I dunno, 3 years I would let them know your disapointment... I'm sure youve spent a decent amount with them over the years... they might give you a bt of a discount on new stuff.

Good going, Marc.
I'm doing similar, but in a B5 A4 quattro, with 4,2L S8 motor from the onset.
What pistons are you running to drop compression in your ABZ?
