I wish! No time to do anything, and quite a bit left. This weekend I might just pitch a tent in my parents yard and camp there. This way I dont have the travel time lost. Im going over tomorrow morn to make up the piece of exhaust I am lacking. That will at least give me a mild head start for the weekend. I think Im just going to make a carboard template and then take everything to work and make it there. Once and done, instead of tack welding it and test fitting, and then having to finish weld it. Just make sense.

Had a productive night, well day, how ever you want to put it. Yesterday after dropping the kid off at school, I ran over to the car, and made up a cardboard template of the exhaust piece I needed. I then brought it and the pipe pieces to work with me and made it. Its not pretty, but should do the job for now
Image
The plan today is to get everything under the car buttoned up so I can put it back on the ground. Then I will hopefully get the wiring done. Im really pushing, but not so sure of myself on the wiring aspect of the job. Update later.

So this weekend went pretty well. I wasnt able to get with Shawn to get my ECU, so there is no start yet. The wiring is pretty well sorted, the car is back on the ground, and the only reason for me to pick it back up as of now, is to put the starter in. I somehow forgot to do that when it was int he air  Oh... wel... at least its not hard to do next time Im there.

So I got the exhaust all put together, not perfect, but not too bad either. For some reason the tips on the stebro are pushed over to the DS, and almost make contact with the bumper. I will fix that later. Pic of the pipe I made fitted in,
Image

I then went ahead and drained the nasty 2 year old gas from the tank. Not a pretty sight, but it does still burn :D
Image

And here is its, back on the ground. At this time I had just started sorting out wiring.
Image

Next weekend Shawn will be up, so all the wiring should be finished, and I will be putting the interior back together. Just dont laugh too hard when it has a blue dash in it. I will be picking up a black dash, but probably not until Carlisle, or just later.

Thanks Mike, Im really pushing to have this done, and at the show. Im just hoping the VW/Audi shop up the road from my parents can align it right away for me.

I did get some bad news though. On Sat, I will have a funeral to go to. My wife's grandfather died. He was 92, and lived a very full life though. Funeral is at 11am, so not sure how much I will be able to do on sat.

But the wife said sunday is all mine. I will be there all day. I still need to talk to shawn and make sure Sun will work for him. Im itching to hear this thing fire up!

Condolences :( :(

I'm in the same boat. I gotta fly to San Diego next Thursday for a funeral (one of my aunts passed away). So I'll lose a weekend, but I wont be taking the Audi, so luckily there is very little prep this year, car wise. Let me know if you need anything.

Well, not the update I was hoping for, and still not pics. Have been working until its pretty well dark, so no real chance for pics.

With another huge thanks to Shawn and George I am 98% ready to try and fire this puppy! Shawn got almost all of the wiring done, I just have to conect a fow in the cabbin. George re-assembled my now AC-less heater box and got that put in The dash, cluster, control stalks, wheel, battery, and a few other odds and ends were all installed today. I could not find the bolts the the fuel rail, until we were cleaning up :shame: , so I did not attach that again today. One great thing was that when we attached the battery and turned the key on, EVERYTHING seemed to turn on as it should! That was a nice thing to have happen. Now I just need to connect the wires for the MS, and attach the fuel system again and we should be ready to crank this baby over!

Now tomorrow I am going to try and swing over to lift the car back up and put in the starter, o2 sensor, and attach the ALT leads. Should be doable in a fairly short time span. I only have a few hours between the time I drop my daughter off at school, and when I have to pick her up. I kind of wish I would have a little more time, then I might be able to try and start it. We shall see what happens.

As soon as it fires up, I will be making the apointment with the alignment shop. Then, before shawn takes off back to VT(and hopefully before carlisle), I will have to get Shawn to ride along with me and help tune the car better. Should be fun!

Well got a small update for you today. I went over and got the

*starter in and wireing attached(minus the lower bolt, grabbed the wrong size, and cant fint the original)
*WB O2 sensor installed(had to adjust the pipe I made, I installed it at the wronge angle)
*reclocked the turbo and got it run to the IC(well almost, I have to get a small piece of 2" piping)
*got the correct alt bolts in + wiring attached(Need to tention it but to do that I have to take out the upper IC pipe)
*the wipers are now installed

I think that was pretty good for only 1 3/4Hr. I just wish I would have had some more time today. I would have done some more wiring and gotten that ready to go. I have a tenative appointment for next wednesday to have the alignment done. I just hope I can get everything ready be then.

Lets keep our fingers crossed!

Today I went over to get a bunch of little things taken car of on the car. Fuel system, main power supply, starter, vacuum lines, and some other items. I got most of them taken car of. I even put oil in the engine, and cranked it over for the first time in over 2 years. With all the work that has gone into it, I was really worried about doing this, but I turned the key anyway. The engine turned over nice and smoothly. I WAS THRILLED!

After doing all that, it was time to check the fuel system for leaks, and boy did I have one. When the pressure gauge reached about 30psi a steady stream of fuel started pouring out of the vacuum reference port. Great, my FPR is bad! this is just what I needed to happen right before I was supposed to try to start the damn thing. So I packed up, cleaned up and headed home. I went online and ordered an aeromotive 13105 from summit with over night shipping. I should have it tomorrow, so I can put that in and get back to work. Shawn is planning to come up for a brief time Sat morning to finish up the wiring with me, and get this thing to fire up for the first time! Wish me luck.

Thanks matt. Yes the engine was spun by hand when we first put the timing belt on. But yesterday was the first time in 2 years that it has been turned with the starter. Even though I knew that when spinning it by hand, everything went well, I still hate the first spin of the starter, it scares me a little... :hide:

Not a great update today :shame: . Car is not running, and the Megasquirt is not connecting properly. We are pretty sure it is because of an adaptor that we had to use, but now pins dont seem to be lineing up. So tomorrow I will be swapping on a pig tail that I have with the correct connector on it. Hopefully that will solve that issue. I will just need to order some add-a-wires to to attach the leads that are not in the basic harness. They will not effect the engine running so those will have to wait.

On a good note, I got the new FPR yesterday morning. Got it all plumbed up, and jumped the pump. Turns out one of my fitting was not tight enough, so a little more torque on that and the fuel system is leak free. I only tested it to 60psi, but I figure with it only running 43.5psi base pressure, knowing it hold well up to 60 is a good thing. :D

I started to fill the block with coolant, and suddenly I started to hear coolant hit the ground. Turns out there is a coolant temp sensor port on the back of the JT head I did not know about :curses: . Well right now there is nothing in it, so the path is wide open. I will be modifying a spare banjo setup to seal that off for now. I will also be looking for a sensor to put in that spot. That will be a much cleaner setup than haing all the extra wire running up to the coolant neck.

Well tomorrow is another day closer to carlisle. I have a back up Audi to bring to carlisle if this ends up not working, but I am really hoping to bring the bandit this year!

ITS ALIVE!!!Well kind of. Rs4Tech stopped over today to give me a hand with swapping the harness ends. I finished putting the coolant into the car put on a bunch of hoses, and after that, it was time to see what happened. Low and behold, after messing around with a bunch of stuff in the tune, it finaly fired up!

Its really rough, but it runs. I need to get a lot of things straigtened out with it. It seems to be spraying in WAY too much fuel for start up. It runs pig rich, and that just with the old sniff testing. I got the wrong sensor for my WBO2, so cant even hook that up to see what it is actually doing. I may just plug in the LC1 that I have, as it works with the senor I got. Only problem is, I dont really know how to calibrate it. I have a lot of reading to do tonight.

I know! Ihave a lot of little things to take car of to get it running better, but at least i can say that it does start adn idle. Once I get the distributor set I can get it set back to the timing it is supposed to have instead of the fixed 10* advance. then things should sould a whole lot better.
