Woohoo! Looks like fun. I'm sure that was one hell of a noise when that went.

not really. Noticed loss of power suddenly on a joy ride when getting back onto the freeway. Really surprised it lasted as long as it did. Hell it still fired right up and ran afterwards

why did this happen? oil pump not able to deal with revs? or...?

I think it was a combination of high mileage (180k) and way higher prolonged revs than the oil pump and pan was designed for.

I went from a nice 300hp setup to about a 375hp setup with a cam/head work/intake/ and fresh tune so the extra power certainly didnt help the already beaten on bearings

Adding that kind of HP to an engine that "mature" will cause some issues quick. Hopefully you aren't looking at having to replace too much, just repair what you have.

Get this done so you can start on the Baron again. Need more 20v love around here.

I just bought the flywheel for it!!!!

Well I decided on this rebuild that I am going to throw some main studs in, a girdle, line hone, possibly scat h-beams, new heads, rings, king bearings with .003" mains and .0025-.003" rods. This way when the 408 rotating assembly is bought, I just need to throw it in essentially

Motor finally got done from the machine shop.

The following is what was done

Decks were squared up
Line Hone
Main Studs (ARP 2000)
Main Girdle
ARP Rod Bolts
All rods were reconned with the new ARP Rod Bolts
3/4 Hardened Main Bearings
No groove Hardened Race Rod Bearings (Kings Extremes)
Hardened Cam Bearings
New Brass Freeze Plugs
All 8 Cylinders Honed
Crank was turned to support 7000 rpms

The reassembly begins this week of the short block. Ordering a comp cam soon (http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam- ... d=648&sb=2) The cam is the 2nd biggest one Comp offers so should be much more aggressive than the last one at idle ;)

I'm predicting a solid 425-450 HP N/A. I still need to order the heads but I am ordering a set of Aluminum Edelbrocks with 2.02/1.62 valves. After some mild porting, they should easily flow over 300 cfm. Now add in the 150 shot and we should be having a good time :police:

I just need to have it running reliably and tuned by the first of April. I'm driving it down to California for a wedding and plan to do some showing off. I usually drive it on my Birthday (Halloween) and then park it for the rest of the season.

Already ported and set up for a .600 lift cam

These things weigh about 41 lbs each. Far cry from the 90ish pounds of the stockers

Should have pistons and rings on it some time this week. We became insanely busy this week so looks like I may not get to it again until this weekend. Good thing that lube is thick

Hows the shop doing? Busy is good as long as it is turning a profit. General repair ain't easy on so many levels.

Stressful but profitable right now. We got hit with a 30 pound bag of bricks in repair work over the last week. Summer arrived 2 weeks early for us. Between here and school, I barely have time to work on any of my own shit anymore.

Almost got the short block reassembled. Buggered up a rod bolt so waiting on the replacement. Very small chance of having this thing in the truck this weekend but I seriously doubt it.

Ordered my Kevko oil pan earlier this week. Looks like they are going to make me a custom pan for the Dakota that has baffles, windage tray, trap doors, and 7qt capacity. Comes with the pickup meant for a HV pump. All that for a price of$405 + shipping. Not bad in my opinion. Should see it in about 2ish weeks. Super excited
