Believe me, the last thing I wanted was to get up when my alarm went off at 5AM. And we're talking 5AM in VEGAS! That's no normal 5AM....I had to get on the road by 5:45 to hit registration at 7AM in Pahrump. Once I was in the paddock though, I was wide awake despite never getting any coffee in the morning.

Did I hear you even had two of your race tires swapped over before you threw in the towel?

Wish you would have come, as it would have been nice to have another Audi in my group. Since it was my first time on that track and first time at full track speeds with that car, I jumped in the novice/student group. Jim G. was in the next level up. You're car would have been fine. The PCA running the event was pretty lax, tech insp. was a breeze, and they were renting helmets.

I wish I had some video. The track was fun and got to see a lot of pretty bad a$$ cars.

I recently converted to studs on the car. The front wheels that have the track tires use a rather thick spacer to clear the calipers. I hadn't test fitted the front wheels prior, only the backs. I put two wheels on the night before and the lugs on the front didn't fully thread out. Meaning the stud threaded a little over half way into the lug...about 4 or 5 full turns before torqued. I need studs that are about 1/4" longer...maybe a little more so they reach the end of the lug. I don't know if it's really a big deal or not, but I didn't feel good about it.

I understand that. I probably would have done the same, especially knowing it was going to get beat on at the track. I don't know if you were paying attention to me getting my car together for last year, but I had a similar situation, only more like two threads of engagement...I knew I was pressing my luck and sure enough, my driver's front wheel comes off, crunches my fender/sill, and ruins my day. Major unforeseen repair and paint work weeks before the event.

Hmm...it was almost like hitting the cat a week before this year's event and having to repair and paint the bumper.

Anyway, you could of had your street tires screaming around the track. I know mine were, lol. With as hot as the track was, they got greasy in about a lap.

:stupid: The rear passenger tire rubs like mad on hard corners even without extra wheels, tools and a HEAVYWEIGHT passenger like Hank. Jim Green brought some B4 rear quarters that are now in my garage. I hope I can run the ABT wheels as a dd and at the track.

Since you'll be swapping to B4 rear fenders what stopped you from using your jack handle to roll the 80 fenders?? Oh, and 4-5 turns on the lug nut is fine!

With no extra weight in the car I think I can get the passenger side to stop rubbing, but still, needs the b4 rear quarters.

Darin, to get full force out of a fastener (unless it is designed otherwise) you need two threads showing past the nut.

Since winter is arriving tomorrow here in Salt Lake...tons of snow coming tomorrow and Friday above 7,000 ft...it's time to start the list of winter "to do"s.

Must Do:

1. Heater Core. Not looking forward to this one, but it's priority number one in the short term. Now that Dave (Hybrid Hatch) is living in Salt Lake, and is the expert on dash removals I can recruit him for this one. I have the core, just need to do it.

2. Condenser. Found a pin hole as we were recharging the A/C to drive back to SLC after BBQ. I'm hoping it can be welded without removing, but if not, I'll need to find a condenser. Not really a winter item, but something to have done before winter is over.

Want to do:

1. Order has been placed for a certain exhaust manifold and downpipe. Also going to order a certain tial v-band hotside and some sort of v-band wastegate.

2.


3. Engine upgrades....whether that means rods or, uh...something else, don't know yet.

Winter progress:

Heater core is done. I love heat, especially how cold it was this morning. (Thanks Dave!!!) I had to replace the hoses to and from the heater core this past weekend though, they were leaking.

Parts are on order for my other winter items, but first a dyno day coming soon so baseline the car.

Other than that, just love driving this car around!!

I'm upgrading to the billet wheel and tube header, I would personally just like to compare, then build a stout bottom end to turn up the boost a little....not too much...just a little.
