ok, no more boost increases until i get some other stuff finished... like the PS lines, because 15psi is a beast and i'm only getting to experience it for about 2500 rpm before i get a cut out.

I am having a terrible time getting logs saved to the laptop, i've made about 15 different logs with different names and can't finda one of em' on the laptop. not in the ecu_882 program file or anywhere else for that matter. i need to see what's going on because i have a stumble at 4500 and i can't get past 6k, which both feel like ign. cutting out/rev limiter, and the limiter is set for 7k rpm.

anyone have some help for me to find the files? i'm running a pretty old version of the ecu firmware as this ecu is probably 5 years old and just now getting put to use.

I don't get it , sorry for not reading but what ecu and why are you getting fuel cut? is this some sort of test question?

I've had problems with poor quality/bad heat range on my spark plug, past 12-13 psi engine cuts like helll. I changed them for bkr7e (ngk plugs) and now it pulls 25 psi till 7800 rpm. Maybe a bad alternator, too low voltage will affect dwell timing and may result in a poor ignition spark causing the cuts. Keep us posted Derek, nice car again, and congrats for the wedding.

034 IIC ecu.

the cut out was happening at 6psi and 9psi as well,

oops sorry, ignition cut. Hope you figure it out. I really need to read up and learn about stand alone systems as I most likely go that route eventually.

Have you tried using the search on your PC for those logs?
In the past, with the old software (pre-1.016) had the probably with the ecu every now and then putting my logs in random places. I would have to search for all .csv files to find them.
Get a log of the incident that way we can rule if it's ecu or mechanical

I got an email back from Nate saying that since i am running vista, i likely need to change some settings on the ecu_882 program to administrative. I did search for all .csv files to no avail, so i'm going to give it another try tonight with Nates suggestions.

thanks for the help Myke, i'll definitely post up my logs once i have them on the computer.

still can't get any pesky data logs. the computer just turns and looks the other way when it comes to uploading or downloading files with my ECU.

on the bright side, i got the turbo vanes shut all the way, and now i'm getting boost at a reasonable rate... 5-6psi by 2400, and 10psi before 3k, but here's a brain buster for ya.... the Wastegate is manually set to 15psi, i had it running 15psi the other day, and now it opens at 10psi.

i measured the vanes travel, how far they will go into the turbine housing, and they will effectively "shut" the scroll off from flowing to the turbine wheel as far as i can tell, well, now, at 10psi, the WG is open from backpressure, even though the intake side isn't seeing enough boost to signal high enough pressure to the WG for it to open under normal conditions.

since i haven't yet gotten the electronics to work, i can't crack the turbine vanes open a little to keep the boost going up smoothly. however, 10psi down that low(relatively speaking in big turbo terms) on this engine is actually quite wonderful and it moves quite well at that boost level, better than the K24 at the same boost level i would say. obviously a dyno run would prove it, but i think there's some interesting stuff to come from this once i get it all under control with the ECU.

mwuhahaha, VGT is now functional 8)

Link to video
(hint, watch the video with good speakers for the bass note in the exhaust when the vanes are open :D)

I have two of these turbos, and i butchered one actuator assembly to come up with this concoction. Aaron found a thread on some other forum of a guy using just a spring to hold the vane assembly closed, and the backpressure opens it automatically. The electric motor is geared down through two gears to give it torque over the actuator arm, I ended up ditching one gear and modifying the main one(which rides in two bearings in the actuator housing) with a throttle linkage from a mercedes.

original arm with plastic bushing molded in
Image

knocked out the holset magnet that's used for locating the gear so i could put a bolt through that hole. these gears are hardened something tough!

collar for one last measure of keeping it on there

i've been pretty busy otherwise and still haven't had a chance to figure out my computer communications problems, but the good news is, the range where this thing runs... it RUNS! the turbo spools hard! i'm still blown away for 15psi of boost :D

will a 4k pump work?

i switched from the low pressure 4kq pump (75bar) to the higher pressure 80/90 pump(110bar) and they are physically different in mounting. nevertheless, i got a pump locally and fitted it, no more puking :)

i've been trying to use my spare time to finish another project i started 2 years ago for this car... the HID lighting with bi-xenon projector housings. i cut a bit too much out of my other light housings, and never could get a mounting solution that i was happy with. luckily for me, my friend was out at a wrecking yard, happened across a set needing attention with a broken lense and whatnot, so i traded him my current set on the car, and took his for the housings to start over again.

since i made the front cross member/intercooler mount, it interferes with the front indicator lights and i can't put the bulbs in, so i came up with another solution. mounting indicator lights in the euro housings... i found some busted light housings off a ranger so i could cut the bulb mounting flanges and JB weld them to some ABS pipe, then to my housings, like so

painted inside silver to help with reflection?

the main buckets were pretty fried, so i used the old ones i had, which are mint. thing is, i'm mixing Cibie with Hella's, so i had to change a mounting pivot.
Image

this time around instead of all black, i decided to use a metallic gray. i think i like it so far.

had to fix a crack :(

ok, hopefully i made the right decision on this... i was just trying to find something to set the little rings off..

i have to finish the backside covers yet, but then i can install them 8)

Looks vey goo, and 'factory' too..!

What did you use as donor for the acutal projector assembly?

On the turn signals..
I was thinking of moving turn signals/parking lights into my eurolights. I was thinking that by removing the plastic 'filler' piece at the outboard, end, would make the perfect place to put them. Could be seen from the side then, also..

derracuda

Re: Derracudas zermatt 20vt 4kq project*vids*

Soooooo, mission Back to the Future was a success. I ran across a 4ks parts car for cheap and i robbed the dash wiring harness and dash/cluster/etc out of it to put my car back to stock inside... where i would have been now if i never did the dash conversion and had an eye sore to look at for the last 2 plus years.

While things were apart, i cleaned all the ventilation ducts out with water, simple green, and brushes to get 25 years of dust out. Also re-dyed the dash to make it black and new looking again (used forever black trim restorer), and reconstructed the steering column bracket to put a 4kq steering column in.... which meant i could go back to one key for the door, trunk, and ign. (YESSSSSSSSS). now i have all the functioning dash warning lights, homes for the hazard, rear window defrost, and dash light dimmer switches.

hapless(helpless?) donor :D

I've been dyin' to do this!

i also mounted the remote face/controller for the V1 if anyone can see it.

The dash looks great. What kind of dye did you use? I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my seats.
