Ok, with a .73 fifth you would have to hit about 6550 rpm to do 150 mph. Thats to same fifth gear i have. I think the fastest i ever went was about 130mph. Takes serious balls to go any faster, and im not talking about the crash risk, im more scared of the speeding ticket cost

lol

Well now that battleborn has settled down, I now have to focus on preparing the car for next year.
Next year the car will be on e85, bigger camshaft, and 26psi. I hope you 20v guys are prepared

hi Dana - epic first post

squared!
On a more serious note, what's the most anyone has gotten out of a 20vt lately?
The aforementioned chipped RS2'ed 20VT puts down 285whp according to 034. Javad gave up on his 20vt a looooong time ago at 300whp. The last setup with dyno data on 80tq.com from 2003 is this:
Dyno Results 09/03
Tested with Tube Header and T3/T4 turbo, stock MC Cam, 20psi boost pressure, 3" exhaust with/o cat, 8.4:1 compression, and 034EFI Stage IIb fuel/ignition system running 45lb injectors, Audi Factory Turbo Ign. Coil. Initial distributor timing set at 12degrees BTDC. Ambient was about 85F, small 2' fan, 4-wheel DynoJet. Also, the equivalent of 95 octane fuel in the tank to prevent detonation.
Max Wheel Power: 291.3 @ 5900RPM
Max Wheel Torque 306.5@ 4550 RPMThat was on a stock MC2 longblock, with an ancient 034 IIB ECU and no knock detection.
With a good ECU and tuning, some port work, and maybe a cam, any guesses???
Even on a stock longblock with a good ECU and tune, header, and turbo, it should be easy to far surpass chipped RS2 levels.
It seems nobody is pushing 20 valve motors anymore. :(
In GM-speak, just because an LS-swap is the logical and "smart" thing to do, doesn't mean a well-built 327 isn't cool.

for doing this

there is no practical reason to push a 20vt above 300hp. The 20vt can do everything a 20vt can do but way better. Also, they are getting cheap.
That being said, modifying old audis isnt practical in any way, but we all love it. Im just poking the beehive because its fun. Kudos for making a 20vt fast, just dont talk too much shat because a 20vt with equal mods/weight is going to lay the smack down on the 20vt every time. Its just way more practical to get 300+hp out of a 20vt. Can't argue that.
The 20vt is kind of unfortunate because its so damn stout but the head is so crappy for higher power.
I'm not trying to discourage, just know the limits of what your working with and don't talk to much smack.

I agree with you bradyzq. The 20vt is pretty much a forgoten engine these days. Everyone knows it is easier to get big power out of a 20vt, and these days, parts and available engines are reasonably cheap.
The 20vt my be a "reic" in the way of the 5 cyl, but in my opinion they sound way better, and are fun to play with. Which is why I also have a 20vt swap.

I loved the 20vt I tossed into my 4kq, but my goal was never a stupid crazy power level, but more what Audi would have built if they put a 20vt into a 4kq. My end result was a very mundane MC1 with Urq bits and QLCC chipped ECU and 2bar wastegate spring. I was damn happy to have a reliable car that was a hoot to drive.
I save all the crazy and nutty HP stuff for guys on here that know what they are doing

I admire what you guys do.

please dont take my smack talking as an insult to the 20vt engine. I loved my 20vt 4000 and it was one of most fun cars ever, especially in the winter. Just had the itch for something brutal and didnt feel like dumping stupid money into a 20vt to get the same result that a ghetto 20vt and a holset got me.

Jim Green made the most I've seen out of a 20vt. Approx 440 whp on race fuel, 034 llc, COP ingnition, tube header, T04 turbo, etc.

K guys, he really isnt expecting to really blow up over a 20v. hes just poking a little fun is all.
The plan IS to make as much power as he can, and call it done. He will pick up another car (something nicer) for a 20v or 07K swapp, and rally the 4k for a good time without crying over breaking something.

LOL good to see you here Dana!
I think the 20vt could be pushed a LOT further if someone with the knowhow and $$ to spend put some effort into it. Of course, all things equal, the 20vt will always win... everyone knows that! That is THE reason noone chooses to modify them for big power anymore of course. Now with the 07k kicking up, it's third on the totem pole.
Anyway, I'd love to see some smackdown either way. As long as it involves fast Audis, I want to see it!

Personally I like the 20vt better than the 20vt for one reason and one reason alone...the incredible sound it makes. To see Jared persevere with his build through the criticism and all the 20vt endorsers really gained my respect and gained my attention (well, that and that fact that he has a red 4kq with white wheels

). The 20v has a smoother and more feminine sounding exhaust where as the 20v has a more powerful and masculine sounding pulse with each cylinder that releases its spent air fuel mix. For me there is no concern with which makes more power and does it easier and cheaper. To me if an engine sounds fantastic it is worth building to some extent unless it already makes a decent amount of power as in the case of the 4.2 V8. That is my opinion, other's may be different but to each their own. I don't have a want for 500 whp or to prove that my car is faster than anyone else's. I just want it to sound great.
I will have a 4kq rally tribute car one of these days and I already have the MC1 that will be powering it. It will be built similarly to Jared's MC1 but a little less radical in comparison and a little more budget oriented with the exception that it will be built with VEMS from the start. Jared, you may continue

Wow. Now Im really motivated to make some stupid power on this LOL.
I believe I found the car Im going to drop a 20v in. Just need the cash to pick it up.
As stated before, Im shooting for 450 crank on e85 and the new camshaft Im working on. I have seen a youtube video where a 20vt made approx 500whp on e85 and a t03/4 turbo. It can be done. Perhaps you guys have forgotten that I like challenges

Dont start turning into my dodge forums

Biggest HP 20vt I know of:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBmyM-a5Slc Don't know much of the specs other than it having custom intake manifold and a tube header, E85 as fuel.
