Craig,
Feel like tackling the tig welding on this downpipe?
If so I'll bring it with me on Sunday, if not I'll just take it to the other guys on Monday.
Cheers

Looking good Martin. This car ought to be a runner and lots of fun. Looks like Craig's car is going to have a run for it's money.

Re: 1984 Ur-q with 20vt aka Shannon, she runs!
Thanks guys!
Unfortunately my car has a great paint job but underneath Craigs car takes the cake by a mile, if not more.
Powerwise, yes, he will have his hands full, but not for long, his car is built in mind for future upgrades and I am sure before long he'll have as much if not more power.... his car will also be able to handle it better with the nice frame rails he installed, stiffening members and all the seam welding he did.
I just visited him in Oakville and he is busy working on the sport, he has the B-pillars installed and now working on the C-pillars.
His plan is to have the entire unibody done by the end of the weekend.
All he'll have left is the floor rails and rocker panels and he can start getting the roll cage work.
Exciting times!!!

I think that the only reason you Canadian guys get so much work done on your cars is that you don't have to spend time trying to find sun roof seals so they don't leak or figure out how to at least make them quieter.

More work today.... got the front clip reattached

At the same time got the intercooler test fitted after having the inlet/outlet relocated/welded.
You can barely get a piece of paper in there.

I am really happy about this side, just need to cut that pipe shorter, a 90 degree silicone elbow and a alloy 45 degree short piece and that will be it.

The other side is not figured out just yet, still having issues fitting the MAF, so, think VEMS is going to happen a lot sooner than I thought.

Here is the IC out of the car.

This is going to be the driver side support, the pass side rest directly on the front snub nose bracket, so it's not going anywhere.
But I still might get something in there to limit the front/back movement.

More tonight.

Excellent progress Martin! I hope you factored in that extra millimeter of clearance for heat expansion.
Those are some crazy tight tolerances. Good work!

Martin, I would be nervous about htat clearance with any sort of rubber motor mount. With the 034 density mounts, I had about 1/4 inch worth of clearance. It would ever so slightly hit the core after hard brake.
That said, How come you can not scoot the motor back more?

Re: 1984 Ur-q with 20vt aka Shannon, she runs!
Ur-q front end is not a fun place to try a FMIC. But it's either this, or dual ICs like some guys in Europe run, but even then you get into plumbing nightmares etc. :frustrated:
All that's needed is extra 1/2", that's all.. :x
Sport is so much nicer for front end access and intercooler possibilities.
So.. more progress tonight, got the seat finished and in... so nice to be able to sit properly in it for the first time.
Fitted one of the rear valance spacers ('84 only), the other side will have to be done when the car is out of the garage, can't get to it now.
Also tweeked the shifter a bit, wasn't happy with the 1-2 gate, now it's much better and also welded the ur-q shifter ball on the 01E selector, I remember I hd it in there with peened end and don't think it will last long, especially if Craig drives the car...
So now it's on there for good and I don't have to worry on long drives that it "may" come loose. We all know how much fun adjusting the shift linkage is on one of these

Hank,
THanks for the spacers, will let you know when they arrive.
The motor is back as far as it will go on the RS2 tranny mounts, so given there is no spacer on the transmission it's about 15mm back from original position. I would have to mod or change the tranny mounts now to get it to go back more. Or buy a set from you
I might have to do it if what you say comes true in my case. I've moded the ISV connection to slide more into the intake to give it another 1/4" so it's even better now than in that pic. That is the only part that is very close to the IC... the timing belt cover has lots of space.

Just a thought. Have you got any adjustment left in your subframe to chassis mounts to move it back another 1/4"?

Re: 1984 Ur-q with 20vt aka Shannon, she runs!
Nice work, Martin. If I were you, I would solid-mount that IC. Not sure those rubber snubbers are needed at the top. You'll have rubber/silicone hoses to take up any movement on the motor. You're risking those snubbers breaking off, or stretching and having IC pull closer to the motor.
Also, could you pull that 90* metal port for the ISV out and drill a new hole 180* away? I know it's a nice IM, but it seems like there is plenty of room on the other side for the ISV. TB booth you can rotate, right?

Got the pump installed, "temporarly" using cut-up 4k/Coupe alternator bracket.

Tomorrow will have the lines made up and the intercooler piping figured out... getting closer and closer.

Great looking project martin... Finishing up on my core support bars and front end myself... Much more room now that the factory sheet metal is gone... Can actually work on things....
I hope you guys in ontario re consider coming to the URQ climb to the clouds event in June...
Curt, Myself and Francois are coming through Canada and heading through to cross in Montreal..... We should at least meet up when we come through....

Hi Tim,
As much as I would love to go to Mt Washington I can only one event this spring, and it's Carlisle.
Maybe next year.
We were planning on attending UPG30, but with the prices of gas going up and up this is looking less and less likely to happen as well :(
Enjoy the trip and do drop by if you are in the Toronto area.
Cheers

Looking good Martin.
It won't be long.......I can almost smell it.
We have to organize a drive this summer for sure, I was thinking Mosport for the International Vintage
Racing festival June 17th.
We can get as many Audi's as possible and head out for the day. Maybe some guys from the States could
come also?
Keep up the great work
Cheers,
Craig.

I'll be smelling it tonight, it's the diff and tranny filling day..
Hopefully get the interior finished as well.
Got the bumper on last night, made it two position, slide out to a stop for original look, or give it a kick in for the Euro look..
I'll leave the Euro bumpers for the winter project.
Drive sounds like a plan.. hope to be doing a lot of that this summer.. she better run well.

Re: 1984 Ur-q with 20vt and 6-speed aka Shannon, almost ther
Another small update... got the glovebox back up, interior is 99%, only the pass side glovebox is down.. will have to check Mike Hopton's write up on how to put that one back up
Power steering lines are in, tight fit but as they say.. fits where it touches.
The bumper and valance are also on.
Supposed to pickup the downpipe today, and picking up intake bits and pieces (alloy pipes and silicone hoses) this Saturday, so hoping that Sunday she can move on her own down the road..
Woohoo!
Craig, I need your help getting the belts, I can provide measurements, just need someone with access to "the back room" in a parts department.
Cheers

Well.. like your mom said, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all...
I feel like getting a can of gas and some marshmellows..
The downpipe fits, but touches.. I guess when they welded it it pulled to one side, so I can have it touch the gearbox, or the subframe.. my choice, woohoo... :woowoo:
I guess the grinder will be out to shave either.
Then, I thought I had a 90 degree 2.5" silicone elbow, nope, it's 2.25" or something in between 2.25 and 2.5... :x ... and of course the place that sells them is not open till tomorrow.. so there goes that.
Next, rad wiring is finished, except I don't have any terminals for the large supply cable, so that also has to wait till the world opens tomorrow. Only good thing out of the weekend is that most of the other crap that hooks up to the computer will be finished, including drilling the turbo for N75 outlet (like K24 and RS2), and the IC is fully in with supports and hose from turbo to IC hooked up.
Most of my time is spent on looking for "stuff" so it's the frustrating end, so close yet so far away. :frustrated:
To top it off looks like not only did it rain all weekend, but it will continue till Friday! Just great!
Anyone have good some good news?
I need a hug :slap:
Cheers
