Well, since everybody else is updating their projects, I guess I will too.
I finally found the time to pull the engine back out again hopefully for the last time.

Once out, found a very good reason why the clutch would not hold E85 power. the puck side they replaced had a pretty negative affect on the pressure plate. this is less than 5k miles since I installed it.

I also FINALLY picked up some RS2 headlights I have needed to bring the look of my coupe more up to RS2 spec.

So now the engine comes apart for machine work to install the ARP mains, new rings, coated rods and main bearings. The last of the go fast parts.

Nice, nothing like NIB parts to make the pants tight.

Now is the perfect time to swap in a nice torquey 20v

Dropped the block off to the machine shop today. Should be putting it back together next weekend if im lucky. As for 20v torque, I'll put the torque of my 20v against your 20v soon enough punchy.

Just ordered all the gaskets I need for the uprate and refresh. I even ordered a new coolant expansion tank since I can no longer see through my original. However, I will not be ditching the old one just yet. Anybody know how to clean the rusty crusties out of them? I pretty convinced the new ones arent as good as the originals.
Also did a side job Hyundai t-belt/water pump today for one of the engineers I work with to make some quick cash. Should pay for all the parts I just ordered and then some.
Cant wait to put it back together and finish the re-engineering on the front end.

I've heard of people having good luck with coffee grounds and water. It won't remove stains, but it'll remove residue and debris.

Wasn't the red baron black on red? when are you going to paint a maltese cross on either side of the car? kuma could do up some stickers for ya. in fact, you should have it part of your HPR logo. its either that or a really pissed off Cooter?

Dave, I was just browsing your thread here and on MG for some ideas. I'm nearing the part of my project that scares me the most (wiring), and bear with me- I'm new with the swaps.
It looks like you initally swapped the AAN in using the stock S4/S6 motronic and then went VEMS at a later date? Am I following that right?
My initial plan has been to use the motronic and maybe consider vems later. I know the wiring will be a headache but I have the complete AAN Harness. Is this the route you initially went?
Im trying to save as much money as I can and don't have any money to spend on the car right now. I don't need huge power in this car but with the 3071, 044 pump, 42# injectors, etc. I should be able to get it to a more than adequate power level

About that you are correct, I did use the URS6 harness in my build. HOWEVER, I also used the stock harness as well. In order to use this method, you need access to the wiring diagrams for each car, you must be able to decifer the similarities and differences, you must be able to cut out the unnecessary parts of each harness and be able to blend them together by splicing the correct wires from one to the other. This method has been known to cause crainial hair loss due to placing both hands on hair and pulling violently. There is a necessary amount of understanding needed to make this work like its factory.
Others have had less of a headache by buying LH drive S2 harnesses from europe for a reasonable amount of money in lue of the manual method.
Either way you go, I look forward to good results as I see your skills are not necessarily complete novice. Good luck with the wiring.

Dave, thanks a million for your help. I did look for an S2 harness but the one I found was about $800 which is more than I decided I wanted to spend (not sure if that's what they go for?) Also with an AAN the S2 wouldn't be plug and play is it?

Yeah, 800 is quite steep. I would not go for that either. As I remember the going rate has usually been half that or less. And yes, what you want is an ABY harness. "Dave" knows more about this than I do. I am more a DIY kinda builder. He has more experience buying from europe than I.
If the only option that is affordable is doing the same as I did with mine, go for it. Keep in mind, you will be spending massive amounts of time getting it down. Once you understand it, how the whole system works, it should go pretty quick from then on. I mean, you have garage space to die for, spread the harnesses out and figure it out like a puzzle.
Also, going through the drivers side wasnt an option for me, as you will find as you get to it. There just wasnt enough length to make it work right. I cut a hole in the pass side. If you need me to take a pic of exactly where, I can do that within the next few days. It works well and I am able to use the stock location to house the ECU.

Or, save the money ($600+) you'd spend buying an AAN ecu, ABY harness and PnP VEMS to get a econoseal VEMS and standalone engine harness. It is really simple to keep the stock gauges; you do lose the trip computer (I don't think the PnP preserves it).
