Oh, for sure. That 1-2 shaft setup Is probably good for half a second atleast on a 10 second car, mainly because of the ratios. It also gets rid of the weakest part of the 01e, and that is the shifting mechanism 1-2. People bust updated parts all the time as well, so maybe a 1-2 shaft setup would break even over a 3-4 year year period

Good rationalization huh?

It was really. 1) I'd have to buy a new S4 input shaft anyways and 2) the new collar setup. That right there is essentially half the price of the gears. Sure it was a chunk of change, but it'll take care of the one MAJOR shortcoming of this car. :drive:

Brian, did you twist that Imput shaft with the dx700 or the 850?

850. I never had the 700 with the vr6, that was back when I had a 1.8t in the a4. Everything was fine until one day I did a low-speed 4th gear pull at 39 psi. I've never felt more tq/accel in my life, had to have been over 800 ftlbs. From there, the clutch slipped (blew off kevlar material) and when I pulled it apart it had twisted at the bottom clutch disk area. the other disk was just fine.

Saw this at carlisle and was like, damn that's a sweet VR turbo widebody avant but that was really it. Had no idea it was an 800whp monster! Awesome car man! Jealous of the PAR setup...It'll be in my future as well I'm sure. I have a horrible track record with 01e's and I'm soon to have two cars equip with that money pit of a transmission.

Hah, well its not a wide body, its just factory fenders pulled quite a bit and rolled. And back when I went to carlisle it was about 500hp. Maybe I'll be able to make it again this year. When is it?

What problems did you have with the 01e?

Small things right now while waiting for transmission parts.....

Moved up from a 10.5x24x3.5" core rated at 666HP to a 4.5" core rated at 900HP. Hope this frees up some HP's and it was a pretty easy swap, too. Minimal trimming.

No engine in the car yet, obv.

Also sacked up and ordered a set of front DSS axles instead of trying to make something work. Also going to install a water/meth setup with a couple large nozzles that can be controlled by the ECU to kick on if IAT's are still out of control. In case you didn't notice I'm going for better charge cooling this year.

Still on a 3" catback also. Was debating pulling that off to just run the 3.5" downpipe and see what the results are from that but that felt like too much work while it was strapped down on the dyno.
