some color sample for the car

did a little bit of stuff..... got the front fenders on, and front bumper. the color is alot different than i imagined, but it looks pretty cool. if it is alot of $$$ to get the required paint to paint the rest, i am just going to get a different color, though. it should be ok, and it WILL look pretty good with the gold rims that will end up on it. and i have decided to just get 15's as there is more choices for tires....

also, tossed in the newly painted, seam-welded rear subframe. with nice shiny 034 solid aluminum bushings..... i have to get the LCA bushings changed out to the 034 units as well, but the front end is all ready to go. i will clean up the rear diff, and put it back in soon. mount up the 4kq propshaft, and that will give me my starting point for the 01E trans.

on to some pixorz.... the color is more cinnamon or root-beer colored than i originally thought, but ts all good.

just curious as to what you did to get those stock rubber subframe bushings out?

i personally cut the tops, rubber section, off with a knife, then took a mini 2lb sledge and beat the ever livig schit out of it... :bashtard:

torch mostly. start melting them, and then they kinda just loosen up to fall right out. and sawzall. and hammer and punch.

by the time i was done, i had learned a decently fast method.

but the torch, did good.

Last time I changed out a set on a 5000, we used a torch and an arbor press.

my method of slicing the tops off then just hammering worked out pretty well, i just wanted to see what other methods there were out there is all. subframe looks good man, i painted mine as well. any thought of rolling/pulling those fenders so you can get some seriuz rubba under there on all four corners?

nah..... i inquired multiple times RE: the wide fenders, but i did not want the rears. craziest thing, they will not sell just the front fenders. period. no way in hell. i guess, whatever.

my thought was; if i bought a full set, and hit a wall or something destroying a front fender, i would then (following the idea that they cannot get them made in parts) have to buy a complete kit again. but i was informed that they would sell me a single fender. but they will not sell me two single front fenders. i do not want to get into the complexity of bodywork concerning the rears. the rabbit fronts were enough of a pain in the ass.

so i was lost at that point. but oh well, whatever. i do not think i could use them now anyways, due to the Rieger side skirts.

i have done lots of FG work, and i know that the molds for the widebody kit is a separate one for each corner. and had they really wanted to sell me a pair of fronts, they could have.

and to get back to the question at hand: no plans on it. i am not gonna run the car any lower than i need to for clearance of whatever slicks i choose. and if i am going to go for the wide body, i will just have a Rieger Evo 1 kit sent from Europe. or do a little something else to cover the tires if i need to.... involving Miata aftermarket flair kit maybe. will know when i get there....

oh yeah, and the subframes are more than just painted, they are seam-welded out as well. every surface that could be, was. and additional welding done on mount portions as well. i want no breakage here haha.

hmmm. i wonder do i still have a set of those lying around. no, these miata flares were way big, and trimmable. go back to the tex, and look up in the drag forum Art (Lbsohk) FS post for his rado. he had them on there..... did not look all that bad.

for priming stuff i imagine you mean. lets see, i get ~1.5 days at home every two weeks. so i think any progress at all is pretty good for the car. when i am off this job, i am gonna put the two VW's into a storage, and pull the coupe into the garage and have some time inside. all the work done so far has been outside, on the trailer or in the yard. so its coming along..... :D

i do have to spend time with chubby and his mom (my wife), right? if i didnt, you think she would dig me having two drag cars?

thanks Mark..... it looks good in person, especially for a track-only car.

and i forgot, aside from life, wife, son, two dogs, i also have one other hobby that requires a bit of attention. and chubby hangs out and helps with it, too.
