Yeah, I've been thinking about putting one in my CQ also. Need to do the glass first.

Yeah, I definitely recommend doing it when you do a windshield, unless your mirror mount breaks off on its own. I cracked a few windshields removing the round mount for the newer mirror in the junkyard, just had the glass guy take the stock one off and I glued the new one on with permatex mirror glue

How did he do it? Heat and wire? Or did he use some sophisticated tool?

Awesome! I want one of those. Dining side mirrors would be nice too..

I was working while he did the glass so I didn't really see how he did it. I can tell you that heat doesn't seem to help all that much.

I thought about dimming side mirrors, but that would be quite the project... And I think modern mirrors would look goofy on a t44. Could probably pull it off on a UrS or b3-b4

So here's a weird one, my right front wheel is hitting the front of the fender liner when I turn all the way left, but with the steering straight the wheel sits normal in the well... And as far as I can tell the control arm isn't bent or anything... gonna have to look more at it on monday.

I wonder if you could just fit newer mirror glass into the T44 housing? This might be worth some investigation.

Possibly, although I think the long diagonal dimension of the t44 mirror glass might be larger than most of the modern mirrors just because of the odd shape.

Small victories!

Image

Gotta work out the column covers, the S6 covers actually fit pretty well, small gap between the dash and them. Need minor modification to fit the 200 column switches. I'm just leaving them off for now as I have to pull the cluster to try and fix it one last time... And add LED lighting.

Image

Also wired the mirror up, it's pretty slick. Works like a charm with just 12v and ground, I could wire up the reverse trigger wire to turn off the dimming but I haven't had an issue, I don't use the mirror to reverse. The compass dims at night too...

When the mirror powers up the screen appears to have temperature display capability. I wonder if that could be made to work...

On another note, the car has still been smoking a bit and I was worried it was the valve stem seals. Smokes on cold starts sometimes (although it has a hard time starting cold, gotta do some temp sensors and whatnot and see if I can solve that one) and at idle after warming up, sometimes it hardly smokes at all. Hard to say, but it's definitely burning oil.

After letting it sit all day at work I pulled the injector connectors and cranked it a little to open each valve a bit, then pulled the plugs and looked inside with a bore scope. Plugs were perfect and no oil buildup anywhere... And the somethingover240k mile cylinder walls still look perfect, these motors are amazing.

So, do I find a good K24 and put the time and money into putting it in or do I bite the bullet and have Hank machine a k24 hotside for my volvo turbo, source an AAN ecu and an appropriate tune?

They are indeed amazing.

I love the small details you're hitting on here. I definitely want to do that mirror. Great idea!

If it were me, I'd be interested in one of those new TTRS turbos and VEMS :) It would cost you ~2.5k though :/

I told myself I wouldn't do vems on this car, I know I won't ever be able to stop tinkering with it... So I'm just looking for an AAN ecu and I'll use the dizzy for the hall sender. Should open up my tuning options a bit

There was a guy from Texas in the b6 forums on Audizine who managed to put a digital boost gauge the the other top corner. I wouldn't be surprised if you could adapt the existing display as well.

The trick would be getting the correct signal to the display. I've wanted to do a V1 display in the mirror too; it's low on the list.

Welp, I did a thing... Ordered coilover hardware and also a chipped AAN ECU to convert this thing over. Now I just need front springs, a machined hotside for my volvo k24, and a tune for it...

Nice! What hardware did you order?

I ordered all the a1 racing bits. Going with the bare bones setup right now, I'll likely get some thrust washers and different top hats later.

So I'm having bad thoughts about selling this ecu and picking up VEMS...

Spent a little time on her again today. Turned this

Into this

Image

Just pulled the trim off and peeled all the cracked plastic off and painted it. Should hold up till I figure something better out or buy new ones.
Also replaced the hail damaged tail lights and removed all the stupid stickers and stuff. Who puts stickers on the inside of the rear window over the defrost wires? Ugh.

Good work!

Now if only someone made a filler for the V8 hole in the taillights, we'd be in good shape!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the hole yet. Probably just cap it for now, it's a 1.25 inch hole almost exactly

I've seen someone put a backup camera in one I think.

I thought about the back up camera, I'd probably never use it though... Haha.

So do I keep this ecu and buy a tune for my Volvo turbo and be out $6-800, or do I resell the ecu and drop the money on VEMS?

Cut a 1.25 piece out of your old tail light and epoxy it in there?
