That's what I always pictured, about a 6-7" steel ring about 2" high with a flat circular plate welded on top of it, holes drilled to bolt in the GC camber plates.

Would make a cool kit - with mount for strut bar on it - just cut out stock towers, weld it on and go! Would be nice if it raised the top mount to add as much travel as possible.

Let's get Javad to whip up a dozen "kits" or do a group buy!

I just bought a set of mance's mounts, would swap them to the back of the CQ if this is a viable option.

I was guessing on the 2" but to get the big flat surface you'd need for the GC Camber Plates you'd have to weld the ring "down the hill" on the strut towers somewhat from where the little stock hole is located.

I'll crank up the TurboCad and get back to you guys in a couple of years!

There are a mess of Camber Plate kits made for Fox-Mustang cars that have flat top strut towers. Might find something there that would work and save $$ - lots more competition for hot-rod parts to fit these dime-a-dozen cars.

Maybe somebody could carve off the top of a mustang tower and graft it onto an Audi??? Blasphemy???

That silver 4k with the urq wide body setup had it's struts towers raised. The hood is actually is raised above them. I didn't notice it till I saw the hood.

ok, update time. saturday morning was spent picking Richard hoffman up at the airport here in sacramento and running him to davis to get his new 20v 90q, get him back to the shop, replace some control arm bushings, CV boots, and an oil change. we charged the AC, but it pooped out about a mile down the road, stupid compressor freezing up! hehe, it quite the smoke show through the vents and all.


saturday afternoon my friend trevor and i got the exhaust dropped,all the axles out, the propshaft, rear diff, and most everything in the suspension broken loose and ready to pull out. sunday morning the tranny came out, rolled the car out of the shop and put it up on jackstands and removed the rest of the suspension and got to bidness with the steamcleaner. cleaned all the underneath pretty good, i'm sure i'll get flack from wizza for missing a few spots but heh, that's the price i pay for not being a perfectionist :wink:

next up was the subframe bushings, i'm finally getting to put these things in. just press the old ones out and stick the new ones in..

then i also got to put in my delrin rear tie rod bushings. it requires pressing the stock rubber one out, and shaving the rubber off the center sleeve and reusing it...

that buttoned up the subframe and then it was time to install the subframe and get back some shop space :P

this pic shows the spacer sandwiched tight between the subframe and body.....there was a miscalculation in the design and that will be changed to make sure there there is no metal to metal contact and that the poly bushing is the primarily the insulator between the subframe and body.

next up was the install of the mance mounts. i didn't take pics of drilling the holes because i figured most of you know how that looks, and for some wierd reason, my third arm went missing yesterday, so i was working hard to maintain doing what i could with only two :wink:

next up the rear spring perches got removed. today i'll have the ground control spring perch rings welded on.

one thing i'm working on is putting front externally adjustable struts in the rear, the idea of removing the entire strut and dissassembling it is completely rediculous so i sought out to fix it. what i've found so far is that the front strut is actually a tiny bit taller than the rear and will require shortening of the bottom steel tab that sits in the strut tube, and the ring that goes on top for the strut cap needs to be shortened a little too. there's also a diameter difference between the struts, fronts being smaller. i found a piece of exhuast tubing that i'm going to get longer lengths of to make sleeves so that the struts will not be able to move around much inside the larger rear strut tubes. i plan to cut holes in the package tray inside and put large speaker ports with the beveled lip to allow access to the adjustments and for a clean install.
