Brilliant Mike,

The floor looks great. I think we..........you should focus on the rear floor /diff mount, suspension tie bar thingy's,
battery relocation, seam welding and such....should be done by the weekend ?

Cheers,

Craig

Hey, that looks pretty clean, I think my floor needs a few touchups here and there, you available? ;)

Make sure you spray some self etching primer on the bare spots.

A bit of progress over the holidays. Retrieved the euro 80 2-door "shipping container" roof:-

Image

De-skinned the roof

Image

Image

Removed the rear quarters and more undercoating

Image

Image

Unfortunately the sport quattro rear inner fenders do not directly fit in place of the ur-q ones....

Busy weekend. Dropped the shell off the rotisserie on to the roof and cleaned
up the floor that was hidden by the rotisserie. Finished cleaning the front inner
fenders and strut towers.

Image

Image

Then flipped it over.....

Image

And over again:-

Image

Installed the suspension, the roof will take some more work to fit right...

Image

The pannel gap needs some fettling:-

This is great, double roof, no need for roll cage now! :)

The paint matches very well too!

Best of luck with the build!!!! What style are you going for? Rally or Road?

Martin, How are you getting on with yours???? And where do I find your project thread for it?

mine is almost ready for paint at very long last. I am just awaiting the delivery of a genuine bonnet, bumper and fuel flap I have managed to find and then off to paint :)

Ah the double roof. Borrowing a trick from the Sahara/Safari-style Landrovers/Cruisers? It will keep it cooler inside on those really hot days....

Hi Brian,

Mine is on hold till summer time, getting the '84 on the road is my priority right now.

Other than cleaned floor and fixed pass side front quarter I've also cut the roof off and that's how she sits.

Any luck with the quote for shipping of the bottom cross brace? Mike also wanted one so we can split the cost.

Let me know.

Cheers

Yes some good news on that front... I have now an account with RH Freight. I sent a set of bars to Oz and they came to £158.00 + import taxes. So I will now get an update for you tomorrow.

That car looked actually a lot more solid then I would have thought that an outdoor car would be, especially being all stripped like that.

I have a question. Obviously finding a 2 door roof is getting to be very hard. Would it be possible to somehow use just the 4000 sedan upright windshield section and splice that in to the Ur-Q bulkhead and roof? I give you all the credit in the world for using the correct windshield as I find those Dynalex converted SQ's with the sloped windshiled frames to be very "odd" looking. In looking at the black and white picture of the Ur-Q and the SQ it is crazy just how different the windshield angles of the two are.

Wow Mike,

Your making some quick progress there......should look nice when it's shortened.

I guess we have to get thinking about making the jig/frame up to shorten the car.

Cheers,

Craig

Richard,

Take a look at Craig's (Highlander) project thread: "Sport quattro project's" he's using a 4000q as
a starting point.

cheers, Mike

Not much to report. The shell moved to the street.

Image

The '83 arrived home:-

Image

And moved in to the garage, there has been a little progress since then, but not much
and I can only dream aout the garage being this tidy:-
:wtf:
Image

The shell was last seen travelling north .....

Image

The rest of the time has been spent herding cats, but i fear they have left the building :D

Love the last pic... you should do the before and after on your silver.

Didn't see you mention the rat infested Coupe GT.
Anyone know which respirator cartrige is good for rodent remains/piss/crap?

It has been a while since I updated this project. Not much has happened with
the shell, but hopefully that will change in the spring. Most of my efforts on this
project have been focused on re-producing the body kit, the updates have been
posted on Martin and Craig's threads, but what the heck I thought I would dust
the cobwebs off here.....

Below are some pictures of the flanges made prior to taking a mould of the
bonnet. This is taking longer than I would have liked but sometimes slow and
steady turns out faster than quick and redo-redo-redo......... :frustrated:

There are some areas of undercuts particularly on the side louvres that may
not release from the mould. They can be filled out with putty or maybe closed
out all together and mould the louvres separately and bond them from below
we will see.

Image

Thanks to Tom J for cutting the louvre cover, just as well he is not on an hourly rate....
