Very nice work! Going to be one awesome street car, and who is going to guess that a 4.2 V8 is under there, well at least until you start it up! Keep up the amazing work.

the guys i am talkin with both say for me to ditch the '00 ECU/harness and get '01. 5 wires to repin, and then tuning it is more better.

then D says to just run it, and ignore the check engine light as it should be fine to run as is.

i think the challenge will be to integrate the Corrado cluster with the 4.2L ECU/harness.

Gotcha. Stock ecm may be the way to go.

then i needed to mount a steering rack, i took the rack out of my MK1 Rabbit GTI, and figured lets give that one a whirl and see how it works out.

but with the motor in the car, it was in the way to easily work on it. so i removed it, and then put some weight back in it with the car on the suspension to simulate ride height and strut compression. just grabbed 500 pounds of welding rod from work for the deadweight haha

Image

seems i didnt take many pix here, or i didnt upload. maybe i sent them straight to FB from the phone. its easiest that way anymore. but first welded a doubler plate to strengthen the firewall, then made bracket mounts to attach the rack.

Image

Image

Image

then made the steering rods for it.

then i decided i wanted some more flex ability with the trans mounts, and Derek suggested an idea and i went with it. instead of just hockey pucks between the mount and the trans, i went with isolators both ways.

and i skipped the sleeves thru the bushings.

anyhow, on to this weeks work, thru my birthday (monday) and the Christmas holiday.

worked on the rear strut towers and the floor area. and got about 80-85% complete there minus the rearward portion of the floor, i need to design the fuel cell for that area. the goal is to still hopefully use the OEM plastics and all the interior trim pieces. i think i can do it.

oh yeah, i almost forgot. the guy who started this project, well he was making some custom headlights for it. and he decided to finsih them and give them to me as a Christmas present. my challenge will be to mount them, but they look pretty cool. a couple sets of headlights gave their lives for these. still using the OEM HIDs even.

Sweet headlight setup! This is coming along very nicely. I look forward to seeing how well all the factory plastics fit in the rear.

Looking good Aaron - really stoked on the rear strut towers! Daydreaming of something similar in my GLI now...

Headlights are sweet too. Icing on the cake for sure - very cool of the PO to finish them for you.

lacks pix he says ;)

did some more work today, just a lil bit really. went to the race shop to discuss the tube frame car some more.

finished the rear strut towers (on the front for pass side) and mounted the rear seats.

also, put new Flowmaster mufflers on my 4x4 Chvy truck. has a Corvette Tuned Port Injected motor in it, one of my earlier swaps.... sounds good and runs good, too.

i think it may be pretty fun.

OEM, the G60 Corrado was 27-2800 pounds, and 158 bhp / 166 tq. OEM.
0-60 = 7.5 sec
140 mph top speed
16.94 @ 89 mph US Spec G60 1/4 mile time.
0.32 CD

just about double the power, double the torque, add QUATTRO, and even if i increased the OEM curb weight by 1-200 pounds, who cares?

it should be fun as hell!!!!

we all know that the CQ is a fun car, even 164 bhp and 157 tq with a hefty 3174-3308 pounds is still a fun car.
0-60 = 8.1 to 9.0 sec
133-136 mph top speed
16.5 to 16.7 @ 82.0 to 85 mph 1/4 mile
0.36 CD

now, i hope i dont ruin the "driving experience" of the Rado, as it was (my old pumped up G60) a really fun car to drive. the whole experience of it was much different than say the SC'd VR6 MK3 GTI i have, that has more power. the Rado was just a really fun car to drive! but, even if i did alter it to some degree, i cant help but think by doubling it up for power/torwue and doubling up the grip or driven wheels, its gonna be that much more fun to drive on occasion.

gutted the front end today, pulled motor and struts/hubs. did some touch up welding. just basically out in the garage messin around.

chopped up the front core support some to play with the new headlights. also did some looking into radiator and front bumper, etc. thats gonna be about as fun as integrating the 40v motor harness with the G60 cluster, i think.

and trial fitted the rear parcel tray and side pieces. i think imma be able to pull off this car being stealth inside.
