mocked the motor up in the car today, not too much modification had to be done to the mount on the drivers side really....just needed to drill a new hole through it fot the snub mount to slide into, and then dremel it out a bit on the sides so that a nut can fit in there.

the passenger side mount bolted right in no problemo

problems thus far....
the ross machine intake manifold hits the hood, im going to take a closer look-see at it tomorrow and see if it can be chopped/re-welded at a different angle, if not, ill be making a custom intake manifold.
the 01a lines up with a few holes on the block, but it does not line up with any holes on the oil pan. i realized that once we tried to lower the motor+tranny into the car...the pan also hits the crossmember...so im assuming that thats is why others that have done similar swaps have used a4 1.8t oil pans...
other then that, its coming along, 034 Motorsport Spec mounts all around will be ordered this week along with aluminum subframe bushings front and rear. i should also be recieveing an SPA top mount exhaust manifold at the same time...then ill be in business. other then that....more pics...

so glad you are way ahead of me on this.... i was looking at the trans compared to the crossmember, and thinking it may hit. and i am changing to the 01E which is ~1" longer, and moving the motor forward that inch. i may be doing some x-member mods....
but i did plan on the AEB oilpan from the start....
keep the pictures coming....

Jon knows he needs the oil pan

LOVE the fab work on the driver side mount

Once you get the correct oil pan, won't that drop the motor down a bit, thus giving you the hood clearance you need?
Project looks good. :-)

im sure as shit hoping so, lol. cause i really like that RMR mani....expecially powdercoated in black. although when i drop the motor in now, it sits right on the mounts...its not like the oil pan doesnt allow it to sit correctly, it just rubs a bit if you rock the motor...but we'll have to wait and see...
thanks for the kind words. :-D

what happend to that bracket???]

i didnt have to do any modifications for mine to fit.
what part number is that drivers side mount?

your block has different mounting bosses then the block im using has. the 058 blocks, older 1.8t blocks...would bolt right into the car with a different mount. the mount you see above is out of a b6 passat 1.8t, so the mount bolts right to the block, but we (issam and myself) werent sure how it would line up with the snub mount in the b3 chasis. soooo, i tried, its terrible, and im going to make one from scratch from mild steel...

i wouldnt say its hat bad. you could just chop off the part you carved up and weld on a 1/2-3/4" piece of plate. dont not-use the bracket altogether.
on a less productive note, my 80q got T-boned up the ass today. so im looking for a shell. sucks

once im done gutting the other 90 that i have i was just gonna bring it to the junkyard for scrap metal money. only thing is that it needs two new doors on the passenger side and some fenders....it was owned by a younger female and before me and she hit a guradrail with it. i would be just a shell though, cause im taking the drivetrain out for extra parts...
as far as the mount, i was under the impression that welding mild steel plate to that pot metal garbage that the mount bracket is made out of...was a bad(and weak) idea.

would not that mount be aluminum?

that mount is aluminum i believe yes...but still...i just didnt think it was a good idea to chop it and weld it....unless you guys want to tell me different... :-D

i would not see the harm in cutting and welding it, if it is done by a GOOD welder....

alright...well ill give that a shot then, pics to follow of course...

ya, just weld a plate on there. fear not, it will work fine.
you might as well try that first, if that fails then you can make a steel copy, but i think the plate will hold up fine for you.

so chopping that mount where i need it and then welding a piece of aluminum plate, im assuming it has to be aluminum and not steel cause thats what the oe bracket is makde out of, would be the best bet? or could i jsut chop that mount in a few places and try and angle it differently and weld in back onto itself?

the process for bonding steel and aluminum is great big ordeal. not likely for this lil bit. just get some 1/2" aluminum flat bar.... should be fine.
you could try to pie-cut it, and bend it down on the front part to match the mount level.... no harm i do not see there.

the pie cut idea is exactly what i was thinking about, lol. ill have to get into it when i get home and see what the best route is, ill try the pie cut first, then if that doesnt work...ill saw it all off.

thats the right idea. work the bracket to the angle you need, and then attach the plate to the arm once its all at the right angle. youve got it.
your gonna have to tape the cut pieces together until you can get someone to tack them together. do that first, then bring it back to the car and test fit it, then you can adjust from there and take it to be finish welded.

ok...so at that point....since i murdered this mount that i have already, lol. what if i cut the mount on the block now...then cut the mount that came on the 5cyl20v block...and mesh the two together that way?

so....after getting the right oil pan and bolting the tranny into the car as well...it seems as if these mounts will be a bit more difficult then i though, even the passenger side mount that lined up perfectly with the snub mount when the transmission wasnt in the car...now doesnt line up so well anymore....here are the pics...
how it sits...

how it should sit....

not sure how i will go about this one, might just drill a different hole in the mount bracket so that it lines up with the snub mount correctly, or i might try and move the mount, only problem with moving the mount itself is that the subframe is RIGHT there, so i cant really do too much moving wise....
and onto the drivers side....which seems as if itll be even more of a challenge then expected...

as far as this side....i think i will cut those ears off of the frame and reweld them into a spot so that i can use the actual OEM hole in that mount bracket( might also just get a new bracket at the end of all of this so that its not all chopped up, lol)
either that or leaving the stock mount location alone, and 'cloning' it using an adapter plate that will bolt into the stock studs on the frame, and then move the mount where it needs to be...which would also be good cause i can bend the plate if needed and tilt the mount however it may be needed to....
back to the drawing board....
might also need to scoop up an aeb oil filter housing as well, but we will see...

Yeah the alignment of the bellhousing to block looks off.

the holes between the gearbox and oil pan say otherwise, thats why I am stumped.
Same 01A box in the 90 is in the A4.
