I can agree with what Sam said... I used to get maybe 1k miles on a set of BKR7e on my Audi after going to a bigger turbo with 20+psi. The triple electrodes would get me more life, but not more than 2-3k miles usually. I used to run .028 gap on them.

A thousand miles? Wtf! Or what, they'd start missing?

That is bs, there gotta be a good fairly inexpensive plug out there... no fr5dtc local.

Yeah, they'd miss at high boost. That is the life of a heavily boosted car I'm afraid! I didn't mind changing the plugs out at about a dollar a piece, especially when I only drove it about 1000 miles every five months or so. I'd get maybe triple that life out of the tri-electrodes, but that's it. I'm not sure if there was some kind of way I could have improved that...

My tune was very solid. Never rich. Launch control might be a factor though, I used that a lot :)

Chaloux run the Fr5dtc's!

I thought I couldn't find them anywhere but they are everywhere! Super cheap to boot. They are OEM for the 993 and 964 iirc. Search for "BOSCH 7403" to get better results

Any local german mechanic shop can order them from a catalog for about less than 20 CAD for all 5. They seem to be holding up for a variety of bigger power applications including a friends rs6x b5s4.

Anyone ever try the NGK R5671A-9 spark plug? I have a set and will probably try them. They are non-resistor so we will have to see how that works out.

Marc also carries them. Those are the plugs I would usually get about 3k out of. Again, that could be launch-control-influenced.

Dad ran the fR5dtc and had good luck with them. Gonna have to check the local shops... anywhere online is fifty bucks for a set shipped to f'n Canada. Even IN Canada.

I've had my fr5dtc's since Jan of 12. Not sure the miles but I think well over 10k. I also have a LOT less horsepower than you guys.

So I guess I can be the first to try these and report back... I've used DTC's & BRK7e normally... And BRK7eix if available for longer life when available...

Mark, mine say non-resistor on the box and ohm out to 0. The "R" in this case doesn't stand for resistor.

Either way, if people have run them successfully on VEMs or other standalone I am looking for feedback.

interesting. the spec sheet I looked up indicated resistor. I will go test one and report back.

you are correct, 0 ohms. which is interesting because I've used it in 2.2 I5 high horsepower stuff with good results and low noise. go figure.

I am going to try them out. Trying to make sure I don't introduce any bizzaar issues with electrical noise on top of all the other changes

Been running the 9 heat range NGK racing plugs, dropped them in with the gap as they came at .030. Did 507whp on the dyno, two track days and 0 issues. Plugs look perfect. I would always get a tiny bit of sparkles on the 7 heat range over time, no hint of even slight detonation.

I can hear a little more electrical noise on my headphones with the knock sensor hooked up but not enough to effect anything major.

I'm curious to try these in my car with E85. I seem to be wearing out the bosch plugs rather quickly.
