Lol! Man this makes me want dad's engine. I'm really feeling the itch this winter with the 4k gone. I can't wait to start on it, and NOT blow it up, lol

Starter is done. The nice thing about having the adapter welded to the rear cover is you can double check your work. Also starting on the cooling system. Got an o-ring adapter for the block machined so now I don't have to use the stock thermostat housing.ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Awesome! I was wondering what I would have to do for a starter. Now I know, hah. So what exactly DID you do there?

Your tstat housing idea looks much less complicated then mine.

Started off with a couple of 1/2" spacers to mock it up, then filled in the gap. Looking back 3/8" would be perfect. I am actually going to swing by my machinist tomorrow to see if he can skim 1/8" off the face of what I did. ImageImage

Then I filled in the remaining gaps with JBweld putty.

Looks great, I'm having flashbacks to being envious of your 20vt build when I had my first CQ!

Regardless, seems like we should be able to make a high torque starter that incorporates the correct spacing sans adaptor

Got this back from the machine shop. 10mm or roughly 3/8" thick now which is just about a perfect match for the Iroz flywheel. Image

This happened today. Things are moving out of the mocked up phase! Love this EFR8374. Hank has been busting his ass to get me this stuff so we can verify fitment and keep moving forward. This huge turbo and a Quick Spool Valve make for an interesting challenge. ImageImage

After exhausting much effort/research there is no easy alternative(other oem) for the 07k starter. I feel for me it was easier with the trans and engine present. Aside from still being in the car of course! Then you have a solid reference to bolt to. Plunge depth was tricky to figure out with measuring at first. My final product ended up having 1mm less plunge depth based on what you told me. Its worked 100's of times so far. ;-) God speed sir!

Hey Jim, does that remote oil filter unit contain a thermostat also?

It's a two piece Earls billet remote mount and thermostat. Pretty damn nice pieces for the money. Here is a better picture Image
